By the time of this writing, the ongoing LAMOST Galactic surveys have collected approximately 4.5 million stellar spectra with signal-to-noise ratios better than 10 per pixel. This special issue is devoted to early results from the surveys, mostly based on the LAMOST Data Release 1 （DR1; Luo et al., this volume） that contains data secured by May 2013, the end of the first year of regular surveys, al- though a few studies have made use of data collected in the second year of regular surveys. LAMOST DR1 was released to the Chinese astronomical community and international partners in August 2013 and made public to the whole world in March 2015. Here we briefly review the scope and motivation, data reduction and release, as well as early results of the surveys. As the project advances, one can expect that these surveys will yield an exquisite description of the distribution, kinematics and chemistry of Galactic stellar populations, especially those within a few kpc of the Sun, a robust measurement of the local dark matter density, and, consequently, shed light on how our Galaxy, and other galaxies in general, form and evolve.

Differential capacitive detection has been widely used in the displacement measurement of the proof mass of vibratory gyroscopes, but it did not achieve high resolutions in angle detection of rotational gyroscopes due to restrictions in structure, theory, and interface circuitry. In this paper, a differential capacitive detection structure is presented to measure the tilt angle of the rotor of a novel rotational gyroscope. A mathematical model is built to study how the structure's capacitance changes with the rotor tilt angles. The relationship between differential capacitance and structural parameters is analyzed, and preliminarily optimized size parameters are adopted. A lownoise readout interface circuit is designed to convert differential capacitance changes to voltage signals. Rate table test results of the gyroscope show that the smallest resolvable tilt angle of the rotor is less than 0.47(0.00013?),and the nonlinearity of the angle detection structure is 0.33%, which can be further improved. The results indicate that the proposed detection structure and the circuitry are helpful for a high accuracy of the gyroscope.

AIM: To investigate the frequency of idiopathic phacodonesis (IP) in senile cataract subjects and the short-term clinical outcomes following cataract surgery. METHODS: This institutional case-control study included 1301 consecutive low-income cataract subjects from June to November 2009. Anterior segment were carefully evaluated with dilated pupil under slit-lamp. IP were screened and graded by a criteria set by the authors. Risk factors, surgical outcomes, and operative complications were analyzed. RESULTS:A total of 42 subjects (3.2%) with IP were diagnosed and classified as grade 1 (36 subjects), grade 2 (5 subjects) and grade 3 (1 subject). Harder lenses and intumescent cataracts were observed in the IP group than the control group (P 0.05). Logistics regression test also indicated the main risk factor was the hardness of the lens. The incidence of zonular dialysis during surgery was 23.8% (10 eyes), which was significantly higher than the controls (0.7%, ( P0.001). Visual outcomes of the two groups were not statistically or clinically significant. CONCLUSION: Hard nucleus and intumescent cataract are related to IP in senile cataract subjects in Qinghai, China. With more care being taken, grade 1 and some of the grade 2 IP subjects achieved similar surgical outcomes as compared to controls.

In this paper,we design and fabricate a novel three-dimensional passive-micro-mixer by using Polymethyl methacrylate( PMMA). The mixer is fabricated by using ultra-precision engraving machine and bonded by an organic solvent fumigation bonding method. The mixer combines two fluid streams into a mixing chamber integrated with T-shaped pre-mixing and six tortuous shaped mixing elements. We have employed three-dimensional numerical simulations to evaluate the mixing efficiency. The simulation results indicate,under inlet fluid pressure p = 10( Pa), compared to the planar serpentine mixer and tortuous mixer,the concentration fluctuation range at the outlet diagonal reduce to 48% and 71. 6% respectively. And the mixing concentration variances also show that the mixing efficiency has a significant increase. We characterize the device by using visualization microscope,and the results are consistent with the simulation data. The device demonstrates the promising capabilities for micro total analysis system integration.

The study ofkiloparsec-scale dual active galactic nuclei （AGN） provides important clues for understanding the co-evolution between host galaxies and their central supermassive black holes undergoing a merging process. We present long-slit spectroscopy of J0038 ＋4128, a kiloparsec-scale dual AGN candidate, discovered recently by Huang et al., using the Yunnan Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera （YFOSC） mounted on the Lijiang 2.4-m telescope administered by Yunnan Observatories. From the long-slit spectra, we find that the average relative line-of-sight （LOS） velocity between the two nuclei （J0038＋4128N and J0038＋4128S） is about 150 km s-1. The LOS velocities of the emission lines from the gas ionized by the nuclei activities and of the absorption lines from stars governed by the host galaxies for different regions of J0038＋4128 exhibit the same trend. The same trend in velocities indicates that the gaseous disks are co-rotating with the stellar disks in this ongoing merging system. We also find several knots/giant H II regions scattered around the two nuclei with strong star formation revealed by the observed line ratios from the spectra. Those regions are also clearly detected in images from HST F336W/U-band and HST F555W/V-band.
