Early changes in corneal densitometry after FS-LASIK combined with accelerated corneal cross-linking for correction of high myopia

AIM:To observe the effects of femtosecond laserassisted excimer laser in situ keratomileusis combined with accelerated corneal cross-linking(FS-LASIK Xtra)on corneal densitometry after correcting for high ***:In this prospectively study,130 patients underwent FS-LASIK or FS-LASIK Xtra for high *** right eyes were selected for inclusion in the study,of which 65 cases of 65 eyes in the FS-LASIK group,65 patients with 65 eyes in the FS-LASIK Xtra *** were evaluated for corneal densitometry at 1,3,and 6mo postoperatively using Pentacam Scheimpflug ***:Preoperative differences in corneal densitometry between the FS-LASIK and FS-LASIK Xtra groups in different ranges were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Layer-by-layer analysis revealed statistically significant differences in the anterior(120μm),central,and total layer corneal densitometry between the FS-LASIK and FS-LASIK Xtra groups at 1 and 3mo postoperatively(all P0.05).CONCLUSION:There is an increase in internal corneal densitometry during the early postoperative period after FS-LASIK Xtra for correction of high ***,the densitometry values decreased to the level of conventional FS-LASIK at 6mo after surgery,with the most significant changes observed in the superficial central zone.

Aging is an inevitable physiological process,often accompanied by age-related bone loss and subsequent bone-related diseases that pose serious health *** on skeletal diseases caused by aging in humans is challenging due to lengthy study durations,difficulties in sampling,regional variability,and substantial ***,mice are preferred for such studies due to their similar motor system structure and function to humans,ease of handling and care,low cost,and short generation *** this review,we present a comprehensive overview of the characteristics,limitations,applicability,bone phenotypes,and treatment methods in naturally aging mice and prematurely aging mouse models(including SAMP6,POLG mutant,LMNA,SIRT6,ZMPSTE24,TFAM,ERCC1,WERNER,and KL/KL-deficient mice).We also summarize the molecular mechanisms of these aging mouse models,including cellular DNA damage response,senescence-related secretory phenotype,telomere shortening,oxidative stress,bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell(BMSC)abnormalities,and mitochondrial ***,this review aims to enhance our understanding of the pathogenesis of aging-related bone diseases.

BACKGROUND The totally preperitoneal(TPP)approach is a new concept that was recently *** the TPP approach combined with single-incision laparoscopic hernia repair has its own advantages,there is little evidence reflecting the characteristics and feasibility of either *** To analyze the potential applications of single-incision laparoscopic TPP(SILTPP)inguinal hernia hernioplasty for the treatment of inguinal *** A total of 152 SIL-TPP surgeries were performed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University from February 2019 to November 2022.A single-port,named Iconport,and standard laparoscopic instruments were used during the *** data,intraoperative parameters and short-term postoperative outcomes were collected and retrospectively *** The demographic data of 152 patients underwent SIL-TPP were shown in Table *** average age was 49.5 years(range from 21 to 81 years).The average body mass index was 27.7 kg/m^(2)(range from 17.7 kg/m^(2) to 35.6 kg/m^(2)).SIL-TPP were conducted successfully in 147 *** patients were converted to the SILtransabdominal preperitoneal laparoscopic herniorrhaphy at the initial stage of the study due to a lack of *** 2 patients with incisional hernias,an auxiliary operation hole was added during the SIL-TPP procedure,as required for *** mean operative time was 64.5 minutes(range:36.0-110.0 minutes)for unilateral direct and femoral hernias and 81.6 minutes for indirect hernias(range:40.0-150.0 minutes).The mean postoperative hospital stay was 3.4 *** SIL-TPP is feasible and has advantages for inguinal hernia ***-TPP has potential benefits for patients with various abdominal wall ***,doctors should be encouraged to actively apply the TPP approach combined with a single incision in their daily work.

As a promising cancer treatment method,cold atmospheric plasma has received widespread attention in recent ***,previous research has focused more on how to realize and expand the anti-cancer scope of plasma *** are also studies on the killing of small-scale cancer cells,but the effects of plasma jet on normal cells and normal cell clusters have been ***,we proposed a 50μm sized micro-plasma jet device,and used the device to treat melanoma cells(A-375)and human glial cells(HA1800)to evaluate their anti-cancer effects and effects on normal *** experimental results show that this kind of micro-plasma jet device can effectively inactivate cancer cells in a short period of time,while having little effect on normal *** work provides a certain experimental basis for the application ofﬁne plasma jet to clinically inactivate cancer cells.

Quantized bound states around a vortex in anisotropic superconductors

The bound states around a vortex in anisotropic superconductors is a longstanding yet important *** this work,we develop a variational theory on the basis of the Andreev approximation to obtain the energy levels and wave functions of the low-energy quantized bound states in superconductors with anisotropic pairing on arbitrary Fermi *** the case of circular Fermi surface,the effective Schr¨odinger equation yielding the bound state energies gets back to the theory proposed by Volovik and Kopnin many years *** generalization here enables us to prove the equidistant energy spectrum inside a vortex in a broader class of *** importantly,we are now able to obtain the wave functions of these bound states by projecting the quasiclassical wave function on the eigenmodes of the effective Schr¨odinger equation,going beyond the quasiclassical Eilenberger results,which,as we find,are sensitive to the scattering *** the case of isotropic Fermi surface,the spatial profile of the low-energy local density of states is dominated near the vortex center and elongates along the gap antinode directions,in addition to the ubiquitous Friedel oscillation arising from the quantum inteference neglected in the Eilenberger ***,as a consequence of the pairing anisotropy,the quantized wave functions develop a peculiar distribution of winding number,which reduces stepwise towards the vortex *** work provides a flexible way to study the vortex bound states in the future.

Interaction between ozone and paternal smoking on fetal congenital heart defects among pregnant women at high risk a multicenter maternal-fetal medicine study

Background Evidence remains limited on the association between maternal ozone(O,)exposure and congenital heart defects(CHDs)in offspring,and few studies have investigated the interaction and modification of paternal smoking on this *** Using a sample including pregnant women at high risk of fetal CHD(with metabolic disease,first-trimester viral infection,family history of CHD,etc.)from a maternal-fetal medicine study covering 1313 referral hospitals in China during 2013-2021,we examined the associations between maternal O_(3)exposure during 3-8 weeks of gestational age and fetal CHD in offspring and investigated the interaction and modification of paternal smoking on this *** was diagnosed by fetal echocardiograms,maximum daily 8-hour average O,exposure data at a 10 km×10 km spatial resolution came from the Tracking Air Pollution in China dataset,and paternal smoking was collected using *** regression models were used to estimate adjusted odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs).Results Among 27,834 pregnant women at high risk of fetal CHD,17.4%of fetuses were diagnosed with *** 10μg/m^(3)increase in maternal O_(3)exposure was associated with a 17%increased risk of CHD in offspring(OR=1.17,95%CI=1.14-1.20).Compared with paternal nonsmoking and maternal low O_(3)exposure,the ORs(95%CI)of CHD for smoking and low O_(3)exposure,nonsmoking and high O_(3)exposure,and smoking and high O_(3)exposure were 1.25(1.08-1.45),1.81(1.56-2.08),and 2.23(1.84-2.71),*** smoking cessation seemingly mitigated the increased risk of *** Maternal O_(3)exposure and paternal smoking were interactively associated with an increased risk of fetal CHD in offspring,which calls for effective measures to decrease maternal exposure to O_(3)pollution and secondhand smoke for CHDprevention.
