Vibrio harveyi,which belongs to family Vibrionaceae of class G cunmap rote obacte ria,includes the species *** char iae and *** as its junior *** organism is a well-recognized and serious bacterial pathogen of marine fish and invertebrates,including penaeid shrimp,in *** fish may exhibit a range of lesions,including eye lesions/blindness,gastro-enteritis,muscle necrosis,skin ulcers,and tail rot *** shrimp,*** is regarded as the etiological agent of luminous vibriosis in which affected animals glow in the *** is a second condition of shrimp known as Bolitas negricans where the digestive tract is filled with spheres of sloughed-off *** is recognized that the pathogenicity mechanisms of *** may be different in fish and penaeid *** shrimp,the pathogenicity mechanisms involved the endotoxin lipopolysaccharide,and extracellular proteases,and interaction with *** fish,the pathogenicity mechanisms involved extracellular hemolysin(encoded by duplicate hemolysin genes),which was identified as a phospholipase B and could inactivate fish cells by apoptosis,via the caspase activation *** may enter the so-called viable but nonculturable(VBNC)state,and resuscitation of the VBNC cells may be an important reason for vibriosis outbreaks in *** control measures center on dietary supplements(including probiotics),nonspecific immunostimulants,and vaccines and to a lesser extent antibiotics and other antimicrobial compounds.

Multi-type sensor placement and response reconstruction for structural health monitoring of long-span suspension bridges

This study is devoted to the experimental validation of the multi-type sensor placement and response reconstruction method for structural health monitoring of long-span suspension bridges. The method for multi-type sensor placement and response reconstruction is briefly described. A test bed, comprising of a physical model and an updated finite element （P-E） model of a long-span suspension bridge is also concisely introduced. The proposed method is then applied to the test bed; the equation of motion of the test bed subject to ground motion, the objective function for sensor location optimization, the principles for mode selection and multi-type response reconstruction are established. A numerical study using the updated FE model is performed to select the sensor types, numbers, and locations. Subsequently, with the identified sensor locations and some practical considerations, fiber Bragg grating （FBG） sensors, laser displacement transducers, and accelerometers are installed on the physical bridge model. Finally, experimental investigations are conducted to validate the proposed method. The experimental results show that the reconstructed responses using the measured responses from the limited number of multitype sensors agree well with the actual bridge responses. The proposed method is validated to be feasible and effective for the monitoring of structural behavior of longspan suspension bridges.

Corrosion Fatigue Behavior of 7A85 Aluminum Alloy Thick Plate in NaCl Solution

The S–N curves of 7A85-T7452 aluminum alloy in laboratory air and in neutral 3.5 wt% NaCl solution were obtained by axial fatigue tests. Results show that the detrimental effect of the aggressive solution was not noticeable at high-cyclic-stress regions, but the effect was significant at low-stress region. Corrosion fatigue mechanism was discussed by corrosion morphology analysis, fracture surface analysis and microstructure characterization. It was found that the corrosion fatigue crack commonly initialed at the localized intergranular corrosion site. TEM analysis showed that the microstructures of 7A85-T7452 aluminum alloy were characterized by fine and homogeneously distributed matrix precipitates, as well as continually distributed anodic grain boundary precipitates. The types of microstructures are the reason for its intergranular corrosion susceptibility. The corrosion fatigue process of 7A85 aluminum alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution can be divided into four stages： the crack initiation stage, the stable growth stage with low and high growth rate and the final rupture stage. The sodium chloride solution mainly affected the crack initiation stage and the stable growth stage with low growth rate, and when the crack growth rate reached a threshold, the effect was reduced.

Polyetherketoneketone(PEKK)is a new evolving polymeric material,and is considered as another important member of the polyaryletherketone(PAEK)family in addition to polyetheretherketone(PEEK).Hot compression molding can be used to compact and consolidate the PEKK products,where the temperature and pressure play key roles to affect the molecular mobility,entanglement and crystallization,and thus the mechanical properties of *** this study,a preheating treatment was introduced in the compression molding,and it is found that such preheating is very essential to avoid the formation of crystal FormⅡ,based on the increased chain *** dynamics simulations revealed that the molecular mobility is always suppressed when a compression is ***,by increasing the entanglement via the preheating and maintaining such entanglement in the consequent compression molding,strong and tough PEKK materials were obtained,with a negligible fraction of crystal FormⅡ.

Numerical simulation of two droplets impacting upon a dynamic liquid film

The impact of droplets on the liquid film is widely involved in industrial and agricultural *** recent years,plenty of works are limited to dry walls or stationary liquid films,and the research of multi-droplet impact dynamic films is not *** on this,this paper employs a coupled level set and volume of fluid(CLSVOF) method to numerically simulate two-droplet impingement on a dynamic liquid *** our work,the dynamic film thickness,horizontal central distance between the droplets,droplets’ initial impact speed,and simultaneously the flow velocity of the moving film are *** evolution phenomenon and mechanism caused by the collision are analyzed in *** find that within a certain period of time,the droplet spacing does not affect the peripheral crown height;when the droplet spacing decreases or the initial impact velocity increases,the height of the peripheral crown increases at the beginning,and then,because the crown splashed under Rayleigh-Plateau instability,this results in the reduction of the crown *** the same time,it is found that when the initial impact velocity increases,the angle between the upstream peripheral jet and the dynamic film becomes *** more obvious the horizontal movement characteristics,the more restrained the crown height;the spread length increases with the increase of the dynamic film speed,droplet spacing and the initial impact *** the liquid film is thicker,more fluid enters the crown,due to the crown being unstable,the surface tension is not enough to overcome the weight of the rim at the end of the crown,resulting in droplets falling off.

A Comparison Study of Wear and Fretting Fatigue Behavior Between Cr-alloyed Layer and Cr-Ti Solid-solution Layer

This work reported a comparison between the wear and fretting fatigue（FF） behaviors of a Cr-alloyed layer and a Cr-Ti solid-solution *** hardness and toughness of both layers were evaluated to support this *** results showed that the Cr-alloyed layer had high surface hardness but poor toughness,while the Cr-Ti solid-solution layer had excellent toughness but low *** FF properties of the modified Ti6A14 V alloy depended on the trade-off between two factors：wear resistance and fatigue *** the Cr-alloyed layer could effectively resist the wear in fretting areas,its poor toughness caused the fatigue resistance to drop sharply and hence led to a premature failure in FF *** to the relatively good fatigue resistance,the Cr-Ti solid-solution layer had slightly higher FF life than that of the Cr-alloyed layer;however,its low hardness resulted in severe wear in correspondence with the fretting area and thus a failure to improve the FF properties of Ti6A14 V *** combined with shot peening post-treatment,the FF life of both layers increased by about three times compared to that of the Ti6A14 V alloy.A further study showed that the poor toughness or low hardness still exerted negative influence on combination-treated samples.

Viable but nonculturable bacteria and their resuscitation:implications for cultivating uncultured marine microorganisms

Culturing has been the cornerstone of microbiology since Robert Koch first successfully cultured bacteria in the late nineteenth century. However, even today, the majority of microorganisms in the marine environment remain uncultivated. There are various explanations for the inability to culture bacteria in the laboratory, including lack of essential nutrients, osmotic support or incubation conditions, low growth rate, development of micro-colonies, and the presence of senescent or viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells. In the marine environment, many bacteria have been associated with dormancy, as typified by the VBNC state. VBNC refers to a state where bacteria are metabolically active, but are no longer culturable on routine growth media. It is apparently a unique survival strategy that has been adopted by many microorganisms in response to harsh environmental conditions and the bacterial cells in the VBNC state may regain culturability under favorable conditions. The resuscitation of VBNC cells may well be an important way to cultivate the otherwise uncultured microorganisms in marine environments. Many resuscitation stimuli that promote the restoration of culturability have so far been identified;these include sodium pyruvate, quorum sensing autoinducers, resuscitation-promoting factors Rpfs and YeaZ, and catalase. In this review, we focus on the issues associated with bacterial culturability, the diversity of bacteria entering the VBNC state, mechanisms of induction into the VBNC state, resuscitation factors of VBNC cells and implications of VBNC resuscitation stimuli for cultivating these otherwise uncultured microorganisms. Bringing important microorganisms into culture is still important in the era of high-throughput sequencing as their ecological functions in the marine environment can often only be known through isolation and cultivation.

Microbial assembly, interaction, functioning, activity and diversification: a review derived from community compositional data

Microorganisms play crucial roles in maintaining ecosystem stability. The last two decades have witnessed an upsurge instudies on marine microbial community composition using high-throughput sequencing methods. Extensive mining ofthe compositional data has provided exciting new insights into marine microbial ecology from a number of *** deterministic and stochastic processes contribute to microbial community assembly but their relative importance instructuring subcommunities, that are categorized by traits such as abundance, functional type and activity, differs. Throughcorrelation-based network analysis, significant progress has been made in unraveling microbial co-occurrence patterns anddynamics in response to environmental changes. Prediction of ecosystem functioning, based on microbial data, is receivingincreasing attention, as closely related microbes often share similar ecological traits and microbial diversity often exhibitssignificant correlations to ecosystem functioning. The ecosystem functioning is likely executed not by the whole community,but rather by an active fraction of a community, which can be inferred from the marker gene transcription level of communitymembers. Furthermore, the huge amount of microbial community data has significantly expanded the tree of lifeand illuminated microbial phylogenetic divergence and evolutionary history. This review summarizes important findingsin microbial assembly, interaction, functioning, activity and diversification, highlighting the interacting roles of differentaspects, derived from community compositional data.

Synthesis and Biological Activity of Novel Spin Labeled Derivatives of 4′-Demethyl-4-deoxypodophyllotoxin

Seven novel spin labeled derivatives of 4＇-demethyl-4-deoxypodophyllotoxin with nitroxyl radi- cals（TMHPO and TMPRO） were prepared and their cytotoxic and antioxidative activities were tested. Their cytotoxic activities were tested against two tumor cell lines（A-549 and HL-60） in vitro. Among them, five compounds show higher inhibition activity against A-549 cells compared with the clinical drug VP-16（2） and parent compound 4＇-demethyl-4-deoxypodophyllotoxin（DDPT, 6）. Compounds 8, 10 and 13 show excellent inhibition activity against HL-60 cells. Furthermore, the antioxidative activities of them were tested. All the seven spin labeled compounds show stronger antioxidative activity compared with VP-16（2） and DDPT（6）. The partition coefficients P of these derivatives were determined.
