Plant architecture and leaf color are important factors influencing cotton fiber *** this study,based on genetic analysis,stem paraffin sectioning,and phytohormone treatments,we showed that the dwarf-red(DR)cotton mutant is a gibberellin-sensitive mutant caused by a mutation in a single dominant locus,designated *** bulked segregant analysis(BSA)and genotyping by target sequencing(GBTS)approaches,we located the causative mutation to a~197-kb genetic interval on chromosome A09 containing 25 annotated *** on gene annotation and expression changes between the mutant and normal plants,GH_A09G2280 was considered to be the best candidate gene responsible for the dwarf and red mutant phenotypes.A 2-nucleotide deletion was found in the coding region of GhDR/GH_A09G2280 in the DR mutant,which caused a frameshift and truncation of *** is a homolog of Arabidopsis AtBBX24,and encodes a B-box zinc finger *** frameshift deletion eliminated the C-terminal nuclear localization domain and the VP domain of GhDR,and altered its subcellular localization.A comparative transcriptome analysis demonstrated downregulation of the key genes involved in gibberellin biosynthesis and the signaling transduction network,as well as upregulation of the genes related to gibberellin degradation and the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway in the DR *** results of this study revealed the potential molecular basis by which plant architecture and anthocyanin accumulation are regulated in cotton.

Highly sensitive and stable SERS probes of alternately deposited Ag and Au layers on 3D SiO2 nanogrids for detection of trace mercury ions

The hazard of Hg ion pollution triggers the motivation to explore a fast, sensitive, and reliable detection method. Here, we design and fabricate novel 36-nm-thick Ag-Au composite layers alternately deposited on three-dimensional （3D） periodic SiO2 nanogrids as surface-enhanced Raman scattering （SERS） probes. The SERS effects of the probes depend mainly on the positions and intensities of their localized surface plasmon resonance （LSPR） peaks, which is confirmed by the absorption spectra from finite-difference time-domain （FDTD） calculations. By optimizing the structure and material to maximize the intrinsic electric field enhancement based on the design method of 3D periodic SERS probes proposed, high performance of the Ag-Au/SiO2 nanogrid probes is achieved with the stability further enhanced by annealing. The optimized probes show the outstanding stability with only 4.0% SERS intensity change during 10-day storage, the excellent detection uniformity of 5.78% （RSD）, the detection limit of 5.0 × 10-12 M （1 ppt）, and superior selectivity for Hg ions. The present study renders it possible to realize the rapid and reliable detection of trace heavy metal ions by developing high- performance 3D periodic structure SERS probes by designing novel 3D structure and optimizing plasmonic material.

HLA polymorphism of the Zhuang population reflects the common HLA characteristics among Zhuang-dong language-speaking populations

A study of the human leukocyte antigen （HLA） genetic characteristics in the Zhuang, the largest ethnic population in China, would provide insight into Zhuang history and give a useful tool for disease associations, transplantation, and anthropology. In the present study, we report the comprehensive HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-C, and HLA-DRB1 alleles and haplotypes in the Zhuang population of southern China for the first time. A total of 13 HLA-A, 24 HLA-B, 22 HLA-C, and 18 HLA-DRB1 were identified in 104 Zhuang individuals. The frequencies of HLA-A＊11：01, A^＊02：07, A^＊24：02, A^＊02：03, and A^＊33：03 on A loci, B^＊15：02, B^＊58：01, B^＊46：01, and B^＊13：01 on B loci, C^＊03：04, C^＊08：01, C^＊01：02, C^＊03：02, and C^＊07：02 on C loci, and DRBl＊15：01, DRBl^＊16：02, DRB1^＊14：01, DRBl^＊15：02, and DRBI^＊03：01 on the DRB1 loci were 〉10%. The A^＊33：03-C^＊03：02-B^＊58：01-DRBl^＊03：01 and A^＊02：07-C^＊01：02- B^＊46：01-DRB1^＊14：01 haplotypes were predominant in the Zhuang. The phylogenetic tree, as well as the analysis of haplotypes, suggested that the Zhuang are genetically similar to southern Chinese populations, especially the Zhuang-dong language-speaking populations, such as the Bouyei, Dai, and Maonan. Even though the Zhuang and southern Chinese populations shared common alleles and haplotypes, the Zhuang has maintained its unique genetic characteristics.

Risk factors for persistent epiphora following successful canalicular laceration repair

AIM:To identify the risk factors of epiphora in patients with anatomical patency after surgical repair of canalicular ***:This retrospective case series included 178 cases of canalicular laceration repair from 2005 to *** data collected from each patient included age,sex,type of injury,distance from the distal lacerated end of the canaliculus to the punctum,the severity score for the structural abnormity of the medial canthus,the duration of stent placement,and the timing of *** risk factors for epiphora were evaluated using Logistic regression ***:Among the 178 cases,45(25.3%)with lacrimal patency after irrigation had symptomatic epiphora at the final ***'sex,age,type of injury,duration of stent placement,timing of surgery,and concurrent trauma were not found to be significantly associated with symptomatic epiphora after surgical repair of the lacerated canaliculus(P>0.05).A distance of more than 5 mm from the distal cut end to the punctum was closely and significantly associated with symptomatic epiphora after surgical repair of the lacerated canaliculus(P<0.01).Symptomatic epiphora was significantly more frequent in patients with higher severity scores for structural abnormities of the medial canthus(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Our results indicate that the risk factors for postoperative symptomatic epiphora include a further distance between the distal cut end and the lacrimal punctum and a higher severity score for structural abnormities of the medial *** findings could be used to prognosticate postoperative symptomatic epiphora.

Fabrication and properties of foam geopolymer using circulating fluidized bed combustion fly ash

In recent years, circulating fluidized bed combustion fly ash （CFA） is used as a raw material for geopolymer synthesis. Hydrogen peroxide was employed as a foaming agent to prepare CFA-based foam geopolymer. The particle distribution, mineral composition, and chemical composition of CFA were examined firstly. Geopolymerization products were characterized by mechanical testing, scanning elec- tron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, and X-ray fluorescence （XRF）. The CFA-based foam geopolymer was successfully fabri- cated with different contents of hydrogen peroxide and exhibited uncompleted alkali reaction and reasonable strength with relative low atomic ratios of Si/Al and Si/Na. Type-C CFA in this research could be recycled as an akernative source material for geopolymer production.

Size distribution,directional source contributions and pollution status of PM from Chengdu,China during a long-term sampling campaign

Long-term and synchronous monitoring of PMIo and PM2.s was conducted in Chengdu in China from 2007 to 2013. The levels, variations, compositions and size distributions were investigated. The sources were quantified by two-way and three-way receptor models （PMF2, ME2-2way and ME2-3way）, Consistent results were found： the primary source categories contributed 63.4% （PMF2）, 64.8% （ME2-2way） and 66.8% （ME2-Bway） to PMIo, and contributed 60.9% （PMF2）, 65.5% （ME2-2way） and 61.0% （ME2-3way） to PM2.s. Secondary sources contributed 31.8% （PMF2）, 32.9% （ME2-2way） and 31.7% （ME2-3way） to PMIo, and 35.0% （PMF2）, 33.8% （ME2-2way） and 36.0% （ME2-3way） to PM2.s. The size distribution of source categories was estimated better by the ME2-3way method. The three-way model can simultaneously consider chemical species, temporal variability and PM sizes, while a two-way model independently computes datasets of different sizes. A method called source directional apportionment （SDA） was employed to quantify the contributions from various directions for each source category. Crustal dust from east-north-east （ENE） contributed the highest to both PM^o （12.7%） and PMzs （9.7%） in Chengdu, followed by the crustal dust from south-east （SE） for PMao （9.8%） and secondary nitrate ＆ secondary organic carbon from ENE for PMzs （9.6%）. Source contributions from different directions are associated with meteorological conditions, source locations and emission patterns during the sampling period. These findings and methods provide useful tools to better understand PM pollution status and tn dovolon offoctive nolhltion control gtrateMeg.

Prevalence and Genotypes of Rotavirus A and Human Adenovirus among Hospitalized Children with Acute Gastroenteritis in Fujian, China, 2009-2017

Gastroenteritis is an infectious diarrhea that has been considered as an important cause of hospitalizations and death in children aged < 5 years, particularly in developing countries. Unsanitary water, contaminated food, poor hygiene, and inadequate disposal of waste and feces are all risk factors for gastroenteritis, resulting in the higher incidence in developing countries. Gastroenteritis is generally caused by viral infections, among which rotavirus (RV) infections have been reported to be the most common, especially among young children aged < 5 years with acute gastroenteritis in Asia and Africa[1]. Other viruses associated with acute gastroenteritis include human Adenovirus (HAdV), Norovirus, Sapovirus (SaV), human Astrovirus (HAstV), and Aichi virus. Recent research has reported that adenovirus types 40 and 41, belonging to species F, cause gastroenteritis and were therefore termed as enteric adenoviruses. In addition, non-enteric HAdV species such as A, B, C, and D have been associated with diarrheal.

An elevated serum miR-141 level in patients with bone-metastatic prostate cancer is correlated with more bone lesions

The skeleton is the most common metastatic organ in patients with prostate cancer （PCa）. Non-invasive biomarkers that can facilitate the detection and monitoring of bone metastases are highly desirable. We designed this study to assess the expression patterns of serum miR-141 in patients with bone-metastatic PCa. Serum samples were collected to measure the miR-141 level in 56 patients, including six with benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH）, 20 with localized PCa and 30 with bone-metastatic PCa （10 with hormone-naive PCa, 10 with hormone-sensitive PCa and 10 with hormone-refractory PCa）. A bone scan was performed for each patient with PCa to assess the number of bone lesions. The quantification of serum miR-141 levels was assayed by specific TaqMan qRT-PCR. The results showed that serum miR-141 levels were elevated in patients with bone metastasis （P〈O.O01）. There was no statistically significant difference in the serum miR-141 levels between patients with BPH and patients with localized PCa. Using Kendall＇s bivariate correlation test, both the Gleason score and the number of bone-metastatic lesions were found to correlate with serum miR-141 levels （P=0.012 and P〈O.O01, respectively）. The serum miR-141 level was found to be positively correlated with alkaline phosphatase （ALP） level in patients with skeletal metastasis, using Pearson＇s bivariate correlation test. No relationship was found between the serum miR-141 level and the serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） level. We concluded that serum miR-141 levels are elevated in patients with bone-metastatic PCa and that patients with higher levels of serum miR-141 developed more bone lesions. Furthermore, serum miR-141 levels are correlated with serum ALP levels but not serum PSA levels.

Proline-based Amino Pyridine Dipeptides as Efficient Organocatalysts for Direct Aldol Reaction

A series of proline-based amino pyridine dipeptide organocatalysts was synthesized and applied in direct asymmetric intermolecular aldol reaction. These catalysts showed good solubility in organic solvents, good yields （73%--97%） and enantioselectivitives（74%--94%）. Among them, dipeptide organocatalyst（2） was found to be the most efficient one for the asymmetric aldol reaction between cyclohexanone and 4-nitrobeznaldehyde. After optimizing the catalytic reaction conditions, we found that the catalyst showed high yield（97%）, enantioselectivity（e.e., up to 92%） and anti-diastcreoselectivity（up to 95：5） at mild room temperature without any additives.

Energy storage is an ever-growing global concern due to increased energy needs and resource ***-ion batteries(SIBs)have called increasing attention and achieved substantial progress in recent years owing to the abundance and even distribution of Na resources in the crust,and the predicted low cost of the ***,SIBs still face challenges like lower energy density and inferior cycling stability compared to mature lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Enhancing the electrochemical performance of SIBs requires an in-deep and comprehensive understanding of the improvement strategies and the underlying reaction mechanism elucidated by in situ *** this review,commonly applied in situ techniques,for instance,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),Raman spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD),and X-ray absorption near-edge structure(XANES),and their applications on the representative cathode and anode materials with selected samples are *** discuss the merits and demerits of each type of material,strategies to enhance their electrochemical performance,and the applications of in situ characterizations of them during the de/sodiation process to reveal the underlying reaction mechanism for performance *** aim to elucidate the composition/structure-per formance relationship to provide guidelines for rational design and preparation of electrode materials toward high electrochemical performance.
