Microstructure and water-swelling mechanism of red-bed mudstone in the Xining region,Northeastern Tibetan Plateau

This paper examines the effect of the microstructure and electrical conductivity(EC)on the swelling ratio and pressure in red-bed mudstone sampled from arid areas in the Xining region in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau.A series of laboratory tests,including swelling experiments,X-ray diffraction(XRD),and scanning electron microscope(SEM),was carried out for mechanical and microstructural *** coupled influence of the EC and microstructural parameters on the expansion ratio and pressure was investigated,and the weight coefficients were discussed by the entropy weight *** results revealed an increasing exponential trend in EC,and the maximum swelling speed occurred at an EC of approximately 10 μS/*** addition,a method for predicting the expansion potential is proposed based on the microstructure,and its reliability is verified by comparing with swelling experimental *** addition,according to the image analysis results,the ranges of the change in the clay minerals content(CMC),the fractal dimension(FD),the average diameter(AD)of pores,and the plane porosity(PP)are 23.75%-53%,1.08-1.17,7.53-22.45 mm,and 0.62%-1.25%,***,mudstone swelling is negatively correlated with the plane porosity,fractal dimension and average diameter and is linearly correlated with the clay mineral ***,the weight values prove that the microstructural characteristics,including FD,AD,and PP,are the main factors influencing the expansion properties of red-bed mudstones in the Xining *** on the combination of macro and micro-analyses,a quantitative analysis of the swelling process of mudstones can provide a better reference for understanding the mechanism of expansion behavior.

The influences of cooling rate on the phase constitution,microstructural length scale,and microhardness of directionally solidified Galvalume(Zn-55Al-1.6Si)alloy were investigated by directional solidification experiments at different withdrawal speeds(5,10,20,50,100,200,and 400μm·s^(-1)).The results show that the microstructure of directionally solidified Galvalume alloys is composed of primary Al dendrites,Si-rich phase and(Zn-Al-Si)ternary eutectics at the withdrawal speed ranging from 5 to 400μm·s^(-1).As the withdrawal speed increases,the segregation of Si element intensifies,resulting in an increase in the area fraction of the Si-rich *** addition,the primary Al dendrites show significant refinement with an increase in the withdrawal *** relationship between the primary dendrite arm spacing(λ_(1))and the thermal parameters of solidification is obtained:λ_(1)=127.3V^(-0.31).Moreover,as the withdrawal speed increases from 5 to 400μm·s^(-1),the microhardness of the alloy increases from 90 HV to 151 *** is a combined effect of grain refinement and second-phase strengthening.

Onlineγ-spectrometry systems for inland waters,most of which extract samples in situ and in real time,are able to produce reliable activity concentration measurements for waterborne radionuclides only when they are distributed relatively uniformly and enter into a steady-state diffusion regime in the measurement *** protect residents’health and ensure the safety of the living environment,better timeliness is required for this measurement *** address this issue,this study established a mathematical model of the online waterγ-spectrometry system so that rapid warning and activity estimates can be obtained for water under non-steady-state(NSS)*** addition,the detection efficiency of the detector for radionuclides during the NSS diffusion process was determined by applying the computational fluid dynamics technique in conjunction with Monte Carlo *** this basis,a method was developed that allowed the online waterγ-spectrometry system to provide rapid warning and activity concentration estimates for radionuclides in *** analysis of the NSS-mode measurements of^(40)K radioactive solutions with different activity concentrations determined the optimum warning threshold and measurement time for producing accurate activity concentration estimates for *** experimental results show that the proposed NSS measurement method is able to give warning and yield accurate activity concentration estimates for radionuclides 55.42 and 69.42 min after the entry of a 10 Bq/L^(40)K radioactive solution into the measurement chamber,*** times are much shorter than the 90 min required by the conventional measurement ***,the NSS measurement method allows the measurement system to give rapid(within approximately 15 min)warning when the activity concentrations of some radionuclides reach their respective limits stipulated in the Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality of the WHO,suggesting that this method con

Hydraulic fracturing is the primary method used for oilfield stimulation,and the migration and settlement pattern of proppant plays a crucial role in the formation of high conductivity propping fractures in the *** study summarizes two growth modes of sand dune:the‘overall longitudinal growth’mode and the‘push growth along fracture length direction’*** investigate these modes,a twophase velocity test is conducted using PIV,and the exposure difference is utilized to separate the tracer and track the single-phase *** analyzing the slickwater flow field and proppant velocity field,the micro-motion mechanism behind the two dune growth modes is quantitatively *** results indicate that mode 1 growth of the sand dune occurs when a pump with a large mesh number,high polymer viscosity,and large displacement is *** the other hand,mode 2 growth is observed when a pump with a small mesh number,low polymer viscosity,and small displacement is *** is important to note that there is no clear boundary for the migration and sedimentation mode of proppant,as they can transition into each other under certain *** modes only exist during specific stages of sand dune *** the case of the‘backflow’pattern,the settlement of proppant is primarily influenced by the vortex structure of ***,in the‘direct’pattern,the proppant is propelled forward by the drag of the fluid and settles due to its own *** the proppant placement reaches equilibrium,the direction of proppant velocity follows a normal distribution within 0°.This approach establishes a connection between the overall placement of the sand dune and the microscopic movement of the proppant and *** construction parameters during fracturing construction can enhance the effectiveness of distal proppant placement in fractures.

The plant hormone jasmonate(JA)regulates plant growth and immunity by orchestrating a genome-wide transcriptional *** the resting stage,JASMONATE-ZIM DOMAIN(JAZ)proteins act as main repressors to regulate the expression of JA-responsive genes in the JA signaling ***,the mechanisms underlying de-repression of JA-responsive genes in response to JA treatment remain ***,we report two nuclear factor Y transcription factors NF-YB2 and NF-YB3(thereafter YB2 and YB3)play key roles in such de-repression in ***2 and YB3 function redundantly and positively regulate plant resistance against the necrotrophic pathogen Botrytis cinerea,which are specially required for transcriptional activation of a set of JA-responsive genes following ***,YB2 and YB3 modulated their expression through direct occupancy and interaction with histone demethylase Ref6 to remove repressive histone ***,YB2 and YB3 physically interacted with JAZ repressors and negatively modulated their abundance,which in turn attenuated the inhibition of JAZ proteins on the transcription of JA-responsive genes,thereby activating JA response and promoting disease ***,our study reveals the positive regulators of YB2 and YB3 in JA signaling by positively regulating transcription of JA-responsive genes and negatively modulating the abundance of JAZ proteins.

In this study,lipid extraction and CO_(2)capture are combined using N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine(DMCHA)as switchable polarity *** effects of operation parameters are discussed according to the CO_(2)absorption/desorption and lipid/DMCHA recovery results.A triphasic models considering lipid,water,and gas phases are established to analyze the kinetic *** results show that DMCHA is reversible through CO_(2)absorption/desorption,and the enhanced dispersion of droplets and bubbles in water phase improves the lipid/DMCHA recovery and CO_(2)absorption/*** triphasic kinetic models fit well with experimental data,and gas-liquid mass transfer is regarded as the rate-determining *** lower interfacial areas result in the poorer gas-liquid mass transfer for the DMCHA recovery than lipid recovery process.

Suitable water content plays a decisive role in the granulation of sintering ***,a method was proposed to predict the suitable water content for effective granulation on the basis of Litster's granulation *** granulation effectiveness of a sintering mixture was predicted by the model,with the allowance error of±10%.The effects of the water absorption properties,particle size composition and content of adhesive particles on the suitable water content were *** results showed that the allowable error of prediction was within±0.5%compared to the experimentally determined suitable water *** an increase in adhesive powder content of mixtures with higher water absorption,the suitable water content increased to achieve similar granulation ***,as the amount of concentrates increased,the suitable water content first increased and then remained *** influence of the water absorption characteristics of the adhesive particles on the suitable water content was less than that of their particle size composition in the mixture.

Vulnerability and Conservation of Nearshore Cetaceans to Increasing Vessel Traffic:The Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin in the South China Sea

A comprehensive risk assessment to evaluate the vulnerability of the nearshore cetaceans to increasing marine traffic is *** this study,the risk to Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis)in the main habitats in China was assessed based on a semiquantitative spatial vulnerability analysis.85%of the(sub)population which overlapped with the lanes of ferries and/or cargo vessels,with exposure scores of 1.23±0.31(calculated based on the proportion of sea routes that overlap the dolphin’s range).A combination of high exposure to the sea routes and sensitivity to marine traffic would render the(sub)populations to be highly vulnerable(EPRE:5.21 and XM:4.47).A low frequency of vessels and an awareness of the ecology assures a low vulnerability(SH:2.43,EZ:2.73).Uncertainty scores were commonly lower for the higher vulnerable populations,and higher for the lower vulnerable populations,suggesting additional field data and more monitoring are *** years of field data have been used to analyze the influences of various types of marine traffic on humpback dolphin *** and non-fishing vessels were significantly different(χ^(2)=65.19,p<0.01).The humpback dolphins were attracted by fishing vessels(83.1%)but avoided non-fishing vessels(95.2%).We recommend a management with seasonal and geographical constraints,to balance economic development and environmental conservation.
