Determining indoor air quality and identifying the origin of odour episodes in indoor environments

A methodology for identifying volatile organic compounds （VOCs） and determining air quality of indoor air has been developed. The air samples are collected using pump samplers by the inhabitants when they perceive odorous and/or discomfort episodes. Glass multi-sorbent tubes are connected to the pump samplers for the retention of VOC. The analysis is performed by automatic thermal desorption （ATD） coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC/MS）. This methodology can be applied in cases of sick building syndrome （SBS） evaluation, in which building occupants experience a series of varied symptoms that appear to be linked to time spent in the building. Chemical pollutants concentrations （e.g., VOC） have been described to contribute to SBS. To exemplify the methodology, a qualitative determination and an evaluation of existing VOC were performed in a dwelling where the occupants experienced the SBS symptoms. Higher total VOC （TVOC） levels were detected during episodes in indoor air （1.33 ±1.53 mg/m^3） compared to outdoor air （0.71± 0.46 mg/m^3）. The concentrations of individual VOCs, such as ethanol, acetone, isopropanol, 1-butanol, acetic acid, acetonitrile and 1-methoxy-2-propanol, were also higher than the expected for a standard dwelling. The external source of VOC was found to be an undeclared activity of storage and manipulation of solvents located at the bottom of a contiguous building.

In recent decades,the consequences of habitat fragmentation have been of growing concern,because it is particularly important to understand how fragmentation may affect biodiversity,an ecological *** tested two hypotheses：（1） that natural fragment size in agricultural landscapes indirectly affects the herbivore through effects on natural predator populations;and（2） predator activity into the crop reduces along the distance from the natural fragment *** 2008 and 2009,we conducted our study in seven forest remnants and in surrounding coffee plantations（fragments ranged from 6 to 105 ha,mean 49.28 ± 36.60 ha） in Southern Minas Gerais,*** were sampled by point counts,and insect predation was evaluated by using an artificial insect model（Koh and Menge 2006）.Our results suggest that although there were many potential predators（e.g.,wasps,ants,birds,and mammals）,birds were the most important taxon *** covariance analysis supported the hypothesis that patch size affected the number of larvae predation by overall taxi,but there was no support for a distance *** findings suggest that natural enemies’ ecological service（mainly from birds） declined with remnant reduction,which has implications not only for human welfare,but also in strengthening the economic justifications for conserving the remaining natural habitats and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.

We present a first-principles study of the electronic transport properties of micrometer long semiconducting carbon nanotubes randomly covered with carbene functional groups. Whereas prior studies suggested that metallic tubes are hardly affected by such addends, we show here that the conductance of semiconducting tubes with standard diameter is, on the contrary, severely damaged. The configurational-averaged conductance as a function of tube diameter, with a coverage of up to one hundred molecules, is extracted. Our results indicate that the search for a conductance-preserving covalent functionalization route remains a challenging issue.

Homebuyers are usually interested in both the accessibility of services and the quality of the local environment,and real estate agents frequently offer some web-based systems for home *** is however hardly any information about the quality of local living environment in those web-based *** purpose of this study was to develop a method for homebuyers,adaptable to the environmental variables of interest to homebuyers when selecting a home *** this paper,a multicriteria spatial analysis method is proposed and demonstrated for the homebuyers’selection process,using data from the City of Kuopio,*** spatial variables are applied,including environmental and service factors in the home searching process.A geographical information system(GIS)is used for creating maps for decision variables and mapping suitable *** method for ranking alternative dwellings is based on the difference between levels of the decision variables for each dwelling and the target levels given by the *** method presented in this paper is adaptable to other geographical and social *** decision analysis tool will be useful for both customers and real estate agents,and can also be used for city planning as a participatory-GIS(P-GIS)*** introduces new possibilities in the home selection *** availability of spatial data on the living environment in the webbased services for homebuyers is likely to have effects on customers’requirements and house markets,and also promote better spatial city organization in the long run.

The new organic-inorganic compound, [C_6H_7N_2O_2]_3TeCl_5·2Cl was synthesized and its structure was determined at room temperature in the triclinic system （P^-1） with the following parameters： a = 10.5330（11）？, b = 10.6663（11）？, c = 15.9751（16）？, α = 82.090（2）°, β = 71.193（2）°, γ = 68.284（2）°and Z = 2. The final cycle of refinement led to R = 0.057 and Rw = 0.149. The crystal structure was stabilized by an extensive network of N--H···Cl and non-classical C--H···Cl hydrogen bonds between the cation and the anionic group. Several thermal analysis techniques such as thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetric analysis and evolved gas analysis were used. We used isoconversional kinetics methods to determine the kinetics parameters. We observe that the decomposition of [C_6H_7N_2O_2]_3TeCl_5·2Cl entails the formation hydrochloric acid of nitroaniline as volatiles. The infrared spectra were recorded in the4000–400 cm^（-1）frequency region. The Raman spectra were recorded in the external region of the anionic sublattice vibration 50–1500 cm^（-1）. The optical band gap was calculated from the UV-Vis absorbance spectra using classical Tauc relation which was found to be 3.12 and 3.67 eV.

G protein-coupled receptor 37 (GPR37), also known as parkin associated endothelin-like (Pael) receptor, is an orphan G protein- coupled receptor, which suffers a defective parking ubiquitination in autosomal recessive Parkinson’s disease promoting its endoplasmic reticulum aggregation and stress, neurotoxicity and neuronal death (Takahashi and Imai, 2003). Interestingly, we have demonstrated previously that GPR37 heteromerizes with adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) in the striatum (Morato et al., 2017;Sokolina et al., 2017).

Bioskin is new material by Acetobacter xylinum, Saccharomyces cerevisae and Schyzosaccharomyces pombe in mixed culture on sucrose. The Material has been revealed as hypoaller- genic,antibiotic,antithermic and sedative. It is widely used for skin regeneration in therapy of burns as well as in odontological *** contains high amounts of D-glucosamine and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. It does not produce ash after heating at 600 ℃ and its combustion heat is similar to that of several current woods, such as pine oak or maple Bioskin has been used to immobilize algal cells, fungal spores and Bacteria in order to study some metabolic events. In addition, immobilization, of several enzymes has been performed using bioskin as inert *** was immobilized at pH 7.0 by ionic adsorption (aminosugars provide a net positive charge neutral pH values) whereas several glycoproteins can be immobilized on bioskin by an affinity mechanism.
