The acoustic velocity,attenuation,and their pressure dependence of a bulk metallic glass Zr_(41.2)Ti_(13.8)Cu_(12.5)Ni_(10.0)Be_(22.5) have been measured under pressures up to 0.5 GPa at room temperature using the pulse echo overlap *** sample was prepared from melt by quenching into liquid *** modulus,Young’s modulus,shear modulus,and Poisson’s ratio were derived,other elastic properties and vibrational anharmonicity were also discussed.

In-situ angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction measurements on three samples of Gr14An84,Gr34An64 and Gr63An34 were performed by using a diamond anvil cell instrument with synchrotron radiation at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility at up to 13.7 GPa.A least−square fit of the pressure-volume to the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state,when fixed K'0=4.0 yields bulk modulus values of K0=166±2,168±3,173±2 GPa for Gr_(14)An_(84),Gr_(34)An_(64 )and Gr_(63)An_(34),*** bulk modulus increases from 166±2 GPa for Gr_(14)An_(84) and to 173±2 GPa for Gr_(63)An_(34) with the increasing An ***,by linear interpolation,the bulk modulus of the Gr−An binary system as a function of An content can be expressed as K0(GPa)=176.9(9)−0.12(1)XAn(R^(2)=0.987).

Using the differences of sound velocity and temperature on the Hugoniot and isoentropic state,the temperature coefficients of sound velocity of perovskite-enstatite under high pressure were *** compressional,shear and bulk wave velocities,their temperature coefficients decrease from 0.386,0.251,0.255 m/(s·K)at 40 GPa to 0.197,0.131,0.162m/(S·K)at 140GPa,*** these to zero pressure results in(■K/■T)o=-0.0279 GPa·K^(-1),which is consistent very well with the value got by hydrostatic pressure *** the basis of our data,we conclude that the compressional wave velocity anomaly of 0.1-0.2%in the deep lower mantle and 2%in the D″region would imply lateral thermal heterogeneity with amplitude of 53-106 K and 1066 K in these regions,respectively.

We report the results of a natural phenacite from 0 to 30.9 GPa using in situ angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction and a diamond anvil cell at the National Synchrotron Light Source, Brookhaven National Laboratory. Over this pressure range, no phase change or disproportionation has been observed. The isothermal equation of state was determined. The values of V0, K0, and K0 refined with a third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state are V0=1116.1：E1.2 -3 K0=2234-9 GPa, and K=5.54-0.8. rthermore, we confirm that the linear compressibilities （/3） along a and c directions of phenacite are elastically isotropic （a=1.50x10-3 and /3c=1.34x10-3 CPa-1）. Consequently, it can be concluded that the compressibility of phenacite under high pressures has been accurately constrained.

A transmission-reflection-combined new method is presented for measuring elastic velocities of rocks and minerals at elevated temperature and pressure,which resolves the problems of gradients of temperature and pressure existing in original sample assembly with a pyrophyllite *** room temperature and pressure up to 3 GPa,single-crystal quartz and eclogite were used to provide samples under test,*** results of this work agree with the previous measurements very well within the error *** the use of this new technique,more precise and reasonable data of elastic properties of rocks and minerals at elevated temperature and pressure can be achieved.

The compressional sound velocity vp for enstitate of polycrystalline specimens was measured at pressures from 40 to 140 GPa by using the optical analyzer techniques under shock loading. The dependence of vp (in units of km/s) on Hugoniot pressure p (in units of GPa) can be described by: vp = 3.079 - 0.691 lnp + 0.0941n2p. The vp satisfies Birch's law: vp = 6.213 + 1.212 ρ, where ρ is corresponding density, indicating that enstatite is stable throughout the conditions of the lower mantle. Here P wave velocity is 0.5% lower and S wave velocity is 2% higher than those of preliminary reference earth model, respectively. It is concluded that the lower mantle is mainly composed of perovskite-(Mg1-x,Fex)SiO3 and only small amount of (Mg1-x,Fex)O is allowed in it.

A new assembly for ultrasonic measurements of water and ice on multi-anvil apparatus has been designed, and the ultrasonic compressional wave velocities in water and ice up to 4.2 GPa and 500 K are achieved. The pressure of the sample is calibrated by the melting curve of ice VII and the transformation pressure of liquid to solid at ambient temperature. The continuous changing process of the sound velocity transforming from water into ice at high pressure is achieved, and the experimental results of sound velocities at high pressure at room temperature on the melting curve of water are consistent with the previous works by Brillouin scattering. It is believed that our new method of ultrasonic measurements of water is reliable, and worth being used for studying more liquids at high pressure.
