OBJEcTIVE:To evaluate the sternocleidomastoid and the descending portion of the trapezius muscles in terms of electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold in women with chronic cervical pain after acupuncture ***:Twenty-five women,aged 18-50 years[(31±3)years],with chronic neck and temporomandibular disorder participated in the *** electromyographic activity of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and the descending portion of the trapezius muscle were recorded at rest,during shoulder elevation,(left and right)rotation of the neck and crucifix *** voluntary contraction was used to normalize the electromyographic activity *** points used for acupuncture were Jiache(ST 6),xiaguan(ST 7),Quanliao(SI 18),Tinggong(SI 19),Yifeng(TE-17),Fengchi(GB 20),renzhong(GV 26),Yangbai(GB-14),and points of the lower and upper limbs:Tai chong(LV 3),Zusanli(ST 36),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Kunlun(BL 60),He Gu(LI4)and Yanglingquan(GB 34).The treatment course was 10 sessions,30 min long per session,and twice a *** final electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold data collection were performed 15 d after treatment ***:The normalized electromyographic activity and pressure pain threshold data were tabulated and submitted to statistical analysis using t-test(Pcant difference was observed during shoulder elevation for the left trapezius muscle,during neck rotation from the right side to the left,and pressure pain threshold for the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles,bilaterally,after the acupuncture ***:The acupuncture treatment improved the neck muscles in terms of electromyographic activity and increased the tolerance to chronic pain in women.

Microstructural evolution of a superaustenitic stainless steel during a two-step deformation process

Single-and two-step hot compression experiments were carried out on 16cr25Ni6Mo superaustenitic stainless steel in the temperature range from 950 to 1150°c and at a strain rate of 0.1 s^（-1）. In the two-step tests, the first pass was interrupted at a strain of 0.2; after an interpass time of 5, 20, 40, 60, or 80 s, the test was resumed. The progress of dynamic recrystallization at the interruption strain was less than 10%. The static softening in the interpass period increased with increasing deformation temperature and increasing interpass time. The static recrystallization was found to be responsible for fast static softening in the temperature range from 950 to 1050°c. However, the gentle static softening at 1100 and 1150°c was attributed to the combination of static and metadynamic recrystallizations. The correlation between calculated fractional softening and microstructural observations showed that approximately 30% of interpass softening could be attributed to the static recovery. The microstructural observations illustrated the formation of fine recrystallized grains at the grain boundaries at longer interpass time. The Avrami kinetics equation was used to establish a relationship between the fractional softening and the interpass period. The activation energy for static softening was determined as 276 kJ/mol.

This paper is concerned with the theoretical foundation of support vector machines (SVMs). The purpose is to develop further an exact relationship between SVMs and the statistical learning theory (SLT). As a representative, the standard c-support vector classification (c-SVc) is considered here. More precisely, we show that the decision function obtained by c-SVc is just one of the decision functions obtained by solving the optimization problem derived directly from the structural risk minimization principle. In addition, an interesting meaning of the parameter c in c-SVc is given by showing that c corresponds to the size of the decision function candidate set in the structural risk minimization principle.

A key control point in gene expression is the initiation of protein translation, with a universal stress response being constituted by inhibitory phosphorylation of the eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF2α). In humans, four kinases sense diverse physiological stresses to regulate eIF2α to control cell differentiation, adaptation, and survival. Here we develop a computational molecular model of eIF2α and one of its kinases, the protein kinase r, to simulate the dynamics of their interaction. Predictions generated by coarse-grained dynamics simulations suggest a novel mode of action. Experimentation substantiates these predictions, identifying a previously unrecognized interface in the protein complex, which is constituted by dynamic residues in both eIF2α and its kinases that are crucial to regulate protein translation. These findings call for a reinterpretation of the current mechanism of action of the eIF2α kinases and demonstrate the value of conducting computational analysis to evaluate protein function.

Short-term effect of physical activity on sleep health:A population-based study using accelerometry

Background:regular physical activity(PA) is an important behavior in improving sleep ***,the short-term effects of PA on sleep are still *** study aimed to verify the effect of different intensities of PA practiced in different periods of the day on the subsequent sleep night in a population-based cohort of young ***::Prospective analyses were conducted for PA performed during the day and its effect on the following sleep night using data from the22-year follow-up of the 1993 Pelotas Birth cohort in Brazil(mean age of participants-22.6 years).Wrist-worn accelerometry was usedto measure both PA and sleep *** intensity,we analyzed the sleep effect of light PA(LPA),moderate PA,and vigorous PA,stratified by *** variables were sleep time window(STW;the difference between sleep onset and sleep end),total sleep time(TST;the sum of minutes classified as sleep in STW),and sleep percent(SP;SP=(TST/STW);expressed in percentage).We performed generalized estimating equations using Stata ***::The means of STW,TST,and SP were 443.6 min/day,371.1 min/day,and 84%,*** spent in moderate PA and vigorous PA in the morning and afternoon was not associated with sleep *** men,10 min/day of morning LPA increased TST by2.56 min/*** women,10 min/day of morning LPA increased SP by 0.15 percentage *** LPA also increased SP by 0.09 percentage points for *** PA seems to have an inverse effect on sleep variables for any intensity and both ***::The effect of PA on sleep health is intrinsically related to the period of the day in which it is *** effect magnitude is different between *** better sleep health,it is preferable that PA be performed during the day.

Human cD4 ＋ effector T lymphocytes generated upon Tcr engagement with self-peptides respond defectively to IL-7 in their transition to memory cells

The peripheral repertoire of cD4＋ T lymphocytes contains autoreactive cells that remain tolerant through several mechanisms. However, nonspecific cD4＋ T cells can be activated in physiological conditions as in the course of an ongoing immune response, and their outcome is not yet fully understood. Here, we investigate the fate of human naive cD4＋ lymphocytes activated by dendritic cells （Dcs） presenting endogenous self-peptides in comparison with lymphocytes involved in alloresponses. We generated memory cells （Tmem） from primary effectors activated with mature autologous Dcs plus interleukin （IL）-2 （Tmauto）, simulating the circumstances of an active immune response, or allogeneic Dcs （Tmallo）. Tmem were generated from effector cells that were rested in the absence of antigenic stimuli, with or without IL-7. Tmem were less activated than effectors （demonstrated by cD25 downregulation） particularly with IL-7, suggesting that this cytokine may favour the transition to quiescence. Tmauto and TmaHo showed an effector memory phenotype, and responded similarly to polyclonal and antigen-specific stimuli. Biochemically, IL-7-treated Tma^o were closely related to conventional memory lymphocytes based on Erk-l/2 activation, whereas Tmauto were more similar to effectors. Autologous effectors exhibited lower responses to IL-7 than allogeneic cells, which were reflected in their reduced proliferation and higher cell death. This was not related to IL-7 receptor expression but rather to signalling deficiencies, according to STAT5 activation These results suggest that ineffective responses to IL-7 could impair the transition to memory cells of naive cD4＋ T lymphocytes recognizing self-peptides in the setting of strong costimulation.

Objective:To investigate whether exogenous application of HS would regulate human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEcs) senescence via p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) ***:cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEcs) until the tenth passage was considered as old *** hydrosulfide(NaHS)(0.1,1,10μmol/L), was replaced every 48 hours starting at the fourth passage which was considered as young group. The cell senescence was determined by theβ-galactosidase(SAβ-gal) positive rate of the cells. Apoptotic incidences were quantitatively determined by flow *** level of intracelluar HO was assayed according to chemical *** blot analyzed the expression of phospho-extracellular signal-regulated kinase(p-ErKl/2),phospho-c-Jun N-terminal kinase (p-JNKl/2) and *** expression of Bcl-2/Bax,cyt-c and caspase-9/3 was determined by western blot after NaHS(10μmol/L) and SB203580(10μmol/L),a specific p38 MAPK inhibitor,co-incubated every 48 hours starting from the fourth passage to the tenth passage which was considered as SB ***:compared with young group,the SAβ-gal positive rate of the cells in the old group was significantly *** percentage of SAβ-gal positive cells decreased in NaHS group,reaching its minimum at 10μmol/L NaHS(Pretreatment with 10μumol/L NaHS,the rate of apoptosis and the level of HO in the cell culture apparently diminished(Pcompared with old group,p-p38 protein expression lessened markedly in NaHS(10μmol/L) group(Pr p-ErKl/2 and p-JNKl/2 protein expression had no significant *** blot analysis showed that the expression of Bcl-2/Bax in SB group was lower than any other groups(Prthermore,cyt-c and caspase-9/3 protein levels were elevated in SB ***:Exogenous H2S delays senescence of HUVEcs through decreasing the rate of apoptosis which was involving down-regulation of p38 MAPK and lessening the level of oxidative stress.
