Work-function-induced interfacial electron redistribution of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) heterostructures for high-efficiency electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction

The engineering of the electronic configurations of active sites,together with the production of more accessible active sites through heterostructure design,has been established as a forceful methodology for boosting water electrolysis ***,a facile approach is developed to fabricate well-dispersed MoO_(2) and WO_(2) nanoparticles with abundant heterointerfaces entrapped in n,P-doped carbon nanofibers(referred to as MoO_(2)/WO_(2)@n,P-CnFs hereafter)as hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)electrocatalysts in alkaline and acidic *** spectroscopic analyses and theoretical findings manifest that the heterointerface formed by the work function modulation of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) triggers the spontaneous electron redistribution from MoO_(2)to WO_(2) and a built-in electric field,which is essential to promote water adsorption,optimize the H-intermediate adsorption energy,result in the enhanced charge transfer efficiency,and ultimately increase the intrinsic HER ***,the intimate confinement of MoO_(2)/WO_(2) heterostructures in the porous carbon substrate can restrain the active sites from unfavorable coarsening and detachment,thus ensuring facilitated HER kinetics and outstanding structural *** a result,MoO_(2)/WO_(2)@n,P-CnFs exhibit superior catalytic HER performance in acidic and basic solutions,requiring 118 and 95 mV overpotentials to achieve 10 mA·cm^(−2),respectively,surpassing a number of reported non-noble metal-based *** work provides guidelines for the rational design and construction of special metallic heterocomponents with optimized interfacial electronic structure for various electrochemical technologies.

Superhydrophobic Co/Fe sulfide nanoparticles and single-atoms doped carbon nanosheets composite air cathode for high-performance zinc-air batteries

Development of a high-performance bifunctional catalyst is essential for the actual implementation of zinc-air batteries in practical ***,a bifunctional cathode of Co_(3)S_(4)/FeS heterogeneous nanoparticles embedded in Co/Fe single-atom-loaded nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets is ***-iron sulfides and single atomic sites with Co-n_(4)/Fe-n_(4)configurations are confirmed to coexist on the carbon matrix by ExAFS spectroscopy.3D self-supported super-hydrophobic multiphase composite cathode provides abundant active sites and facilitates gas–liquid-solid three-phase interface reactions,resulting in excellent electrocatalytic activity and batteries performance,i.e.,an OER overpotential(η_(10))of 260 mV,a half-wave potential(E_(1/2))of 0.872 V for ORR,aΔE of 0.618 V,and a discharge power density of 170 mW cm^(−2),a specific capacity of 816.3 mAh g^(−1).DFT analysis shows multiphase coupling of sulfide heterojunction through single-atomic metal doped carbon nanosheets reduces offset on center of electronic density of states before and after oxygen adsorption,and spin density of adsorbed oxygen with same spin orientation,leading to weakened charge/spin interactions between adsorbed oxygen and substrate,and a lowered oxygen adsorption energy to accelerate OER/ORR.

Laser welding study of vacuum sintered HUST-1 lunar regolith simulant

Efforts are underway to establish a permanent lunar base on the Moon. In situ lunar regolith is anticipated to be useful as a building material after sintering. However, sintering lunar regolith into a large-scale structure presents challenges. Therefore, the key to lunar construction lies in assembling multiple small-sized sintered modules into a stable, large-sized structure. This study explored the feasibility of welding the sintered HUST-1 lunar regolith simulant(HLRS) using a laser device and conducted experiments using lasers of varying power. The microstructure, mineral composition, element distribution, and shear strength of the welded joint were investigated. A few low-melting minerals were fused and vaporized during welding, leading to the generation of thermal decomposition gas. Furthermore, the welded joint exhibited numerous micro-cracks, pores, and bubbles,resulting in reduced weld shear strength. Finally, the influence of laser power on weld shear strength was investigated, revealing that the highest shear strength(15.69 n/cm) was achieved at a laser power of 1000 W. This study demonstrates the feasibility of laser welding of sintered HLRS for the first time, with potential applications in lunar base construction.

Comparing Mn-based oxides filters started by KMnO_(4)versus K_(2)FeO_(4)for ammonium and manganese removal:Formation mechanism of active species

A pilot-scale filtration system was adopted to prepare filter media with catalytic activity to remove manganese(Mn^(2+))and ammonium(nH_(4)^(+)-n).Three different combinations of oxidants(KMnO_(4)and K_(2)FeO_(4))and reductants(MnSO_(4)and FeCl_(2))were used during the start-up *** R3 started up by KMnO_(4)and FeCl_(2)(Mn^(7+)→MnO_(x))exhibited excellent catalytic property,and the nH_(4)^(+)-n and Mn^(2+)removal efficiency reached over 80%on the 10th and 35th days,*** R1 started up by K_(2)FeO_(4)and MnSO_(4)(MnO_(x)←Mn^(2+))exhibited the worst catalytic *** R2 started up by KMnO_(4)and MnSO_(4)(Mn^(7+)→MnO_(x)←Mn^(2+))were in *** to Zeta potential results,the Mn-based oxides(MnO_(x))formed by Mn^(7+)→MnO_(x)performed the highest pHIEP and *** higher the pHIEP and pHPZC,the more unfavorable the cation ***,it was inconsistent with its excellent Mn^(2+)and nH_(4)^(+)-n removal abilities,implying that catalytic oxidation played a key *** with xRD and xPS analysis,the results showed that the MnO_(x)produced by the reduction of KMnO_(4)showed early formation of buserite crystals,high degree of amorphous,high content of Mn3+and lattice oxygen with the higher activity to form *** above results showed that MnO_(x)produced by the reduction of KMnO_(4)was more conducive to the formation of active species for catalytic oxidation of nH_(4)^(+)-n and Mn^(2+)*** study provides new insights on the formation mechanisms of the active MnO_(x)that could catalytic oxidation of nH_(4)^(+)-n and Mn^(2+).

Effect of ceramic work rolls on surface roughness of rolled SUS304 ultra-thin strips

Surface morphology and roughness are important parameters of surface quality of cold-rolled ultra-thin strip *** order to study the effect of Si_(3)n_(4) ceramic work rolls on the surface roughness of SUS304 ultra-thin strip,ABAQUS finite element model calculation,3D laser profilometry,and other methods were adopted based on the physical characteristics of Si_(3)n_(4) ceramic roll and 9Cr2MoV steel roll,like anti-flattening performance and oil *** surface morphology and roughness of SUS304 ultra-thin strip rolled by different material work rolls under oil lubrication conditions were *** results showed that under the rolling force of 10 kn,the maximum flattening amount of Si_(3)n_(4) ceramic roll was reduced by 35.14%compared to that of 9Cr2MoV steel *** reduction rate of SUS304 ultra-thin strip rolled by ceramic roll was 34.19%,while that rolled by steel roll was only 22%;Si_(3)n_(4) ceramic roll can further increase the number of alternating convex peaks and concave valleys in the rolled thin strip,reduce the profile steepness,reduce surface roughness,and enhance the planarization effect of surface micro-convex bodies,with improving surface quality and surface ***,the mechanism of Si_(3)n_(4) ceramic roll significantly improving the surface roughness of rolled SUS304 ultra-thin strip was proposed.

Optimizing piezoelectric performance of complex perovskite through increasing diversity of B-site cations

Piezoelectric materials with unique properties are hugely appealing for high sensitivity sensors and ultrasonic ***,Pb(ni_(1/3)nb_(2/3))O_(3)-Pb(Yb_(1/2)nb_(1/2))O_(3)-PbTiO_(3)piezoelectric system was designed and investigated in *** optimized piezoelectric response(d_(33)=826 pC/n,d_(33)∗=1017 pm/V)together with good temperature stability and negligible performance degradation up to 10^(6) cycles was achieved in 0.58Pnn-0.10PYn-0.32PT *** analysis revealed the amplification of intrinsic and extrinsic contributions in MPB region due to more spontaneous polarization orientations and an increase in chemical disorder of system after the introduction of *** origin of high piezoelectric response was investigated through the combination of scanning electron microscopy and piezoresponse force *** diversity of B-site cations was shown to enhance local structural heterogeneity,weaken long-range ferroelectric ordered domains,and lower free energy barrier via the formation of nanodomain configuration that promoted polarization rotation,thereby improving piezoelectric properties of the ***,it is suggested that increasing the diversity of B-site cations is an effective strategy for achieving outstanding piezoelectric performance.

Reinforcing oxygen electrocatalytic activity via selective dualphase heterointerface engineering for rechargeable Zn-air batteries

Dual-phase heterointerface electrocatalysts(DPHE)constructed by oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)-and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)-active elements exhibit excellent bifunctional activity and long-term durability due to the abundant interface exposure and synergistic catalytic ***,low-dimensional n-doped graphene nanoribbons(n-GnRs)coupling with ultrathin CoO nanocomposites(n-GnRs/CoO)were controllably fabricated through a facile two-step approach using synthesized Co(OH)_2 nanosheet as CoO *** functional theory(DFT)calculations and experimental characterizations prove that the formation of interface between n-GnRs and CoO can induce local charge redistribution,contributing to the improvement of catalytic activity and *** optimal n-GnRs/CoO DPHE possesses hierarchically porous architectures and presents outstanding bifunctional activities with a small potential gap of 0.729 V between the potential at 10 mA·cm^(-2)for OER and the halfwave potential for ORR,which outperforms Pt/C+IrO_(2)and the majority of noble-metal-free bifunctional ***-and solid-state rechargeable Zn-air batteries assembled with n-GnRs/CoO as the cathode also display high peak power density and fantastic cycle stability,superior to that of benchmark Pt/C+IrO_(2)*** is anticipated to offer significant benefits toward high activity,stability and mechanical flexibility bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts for rechargeable Zn-air batteries.
