The Role of Renewable Protocatechol Acid in Epoxy Coating Modification: Significantly Improved Antibacterial and Adhesive Properties

It is of great significance to design epoxy coatings with superior antibacterial properties and high adhesive properties, as well as excellent processing, superior durability, and high transparency. However, it is still a challenge because of the common complex design and synthesis. Herein, the bio-based monomer protocatechuic acid(PCA) was used as raw material, the catechol structure with high bonding and antibacterial properties was introduced into the flexible alkane segment of ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether(EGDE) through an efficient, and green method, and it was cured with isophorone diamine(IPDA) to prepare corresponding thermosets. The cured resins exhibited excellent allaround qualities, particularly in bonding and antibacterial. When 30% PCA was added to pure epoxy resin, the adhesion between substrate and coating increased from 4.40 MPa to 13.60 MPa and the antibacterial rate of coating against E. coli and S. aureus could approach 100%. All of this is due to the fact that the catechol structure present in PCA has the ability to interact with various substrates and alter the permeability of bacterial cell membranes. The architecture of this method offers a fresh approach to dealing with the issues of challenging raw material selection and complex synthesis techniques.

The value of toxicological analysis in acute poisoning patients with uncertain exposure histories:a retrospective and descriptive study from an institute of poisoning

baCKGROUnD:In clinical practice,some patients might not be able or unwilling to provide a thorough history of medication and poison *** aim of this study was to use toxicological analysis to examine the clinical characteristics of patients with acute poisoning whose exposure history was uncertain from a toxicological analysis ***:This was a retrospective and descriptive study from an institute of *** registration information and test reports spanning the period from April 1,2020 to March 31,2022,were *** with uncertain exposure histories and who underwent toxicological analysis were *** manifestations and categories of toxics were ***:Among the 195 patients with positive toxicological analysis results,the main causes of uncertain exposure history was disturbance of consciousness(62.6%),unawareness(23.6%)and unwillingness or lack of cooperation(13.8%).The predominant clinical manifestations were disturbed consciousness(62.6%),followed by vomiting and nausea(14.4%)and liver function abnormalities(8.7%).A comparison of clinical manifestations between patients with positive and negative(n=99)toxicological analyses results revealed significantly different proportions of disturbances in consciousness(63%vs.21%),dizziness(1.5%vs.5.1%),multi-organ failure(1.5%vs.7.1%),and local pain(0 vs 4%).The main categories of substances involved were psychiatric medications(23.1%),sedatives(20.5%),insecticides(13.8%),and herbicides(12.8%).COnCLUSIOn:The clinical manifestations of acute poisoning in patients with an uncertain exposure history are diverse and nonspecific,and toxicological analysis plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of such patients.

Connecting cellular mechanisms and extracellular vesicle cargo in traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury is followed by a cascade of dynamic and complex events occurring at the cellular level. These events include: diffuse ax.nal injury, neuronal cell death, blood-brain barrier break down, glial activation and neuroinflammation, edema, ischemia, vascular injury, energy failure, and peripheral immune cell infiltration. The timing of these events post injury has been linked to injury severity and functional outcome. Extracellular vesicles are membrane bound secretory vesicles that contain markers and cargo pertaining to their cell of origin and can cross the blood-brain barrier. These qualities make extracellular vesicles intriguing candidates for a liquid biopsy into the pathophysiologic changes occurring at the cellular level post traumatic brain injury. Herein, we review the most commonly reported cargo changes in extracellular vesicles from clinical traumatic brain injury samples. We then use knowledge from animal and in vitro models to help infer what these changes may indicate regrading cellular responses post traumatic brain injury. Future research should prioritize labeling extracellular vesicles with markers for distinct cell types across a range of timepoints post traumatic brain injury.

The Method of Polynomial Particular Solutions for Solving nonlinear Poisson-Type Equations

In this paper,the method of polynomial particular solutions is used to solve nonlinear Poisson-type partial differential equations in one,two,and three *** condition number of the coefficient matrix is reduced through the implementation of multiple scale technique,ultimately yielding a stable numerical *** methodological process can be divided into two main parts:first,identifying the corresponding polynomial particular solutions for the linear differential operator terms in the governing equations,and second,employing these polynomial particular solutions as basis function to iteratively solve the remaining nonlinear terms within the governing ***,we investigate the potential improvement in numerical accuracy for equations with singularities in the analytical solution by shifting the computational domain a certain *** experiments are conducted to assess both the accuracy and stability of the proposed method.A comparison of the obtained results with those produced by other numerical methods demonstrates the accuracy,stability,and efficiency of the proposed method in handling nonlinear Poisson-type partial differential equations.

Space-time estimates of the 3D bipolar compressible navier-Stokes-Poisson system with unequal viscosities

The space-time behavior for the Cauchy problem of the 3D compressible bipolar navier-Stokes-Poisson(BnSP)system with unequal viscosities is *** space-time estimate of the electric field▽φ=▽(-△)^(-1)(n-Zρ)is the most important in deducing generalized Huygens’principle for the BnSP system and it requires proving that the space-time estimate of n-Zρonly contains the diffusion wave due to the singularity of the operator▽(-△)^(-1).A suitable linear combination of unknowns reformulating the original system into two small subsystems for the special case(with equal viscosities)in wu and Wang(2017)is crucial for both linear analysis and nonlinear estimates,especially for the space-time estimate of▽φ.However,the benefits from this reformulation will no longer exist in general ***,we study an 8×8 Green’s matrix *** importantly,each entry in Green’s matrix contains wave operators in the low-frequency part,which will generally produce Huygens’wave;as a result,one cannot achieve the space-time estimate of n-Zρthat only contains the diffusion wave as *** overcome this difficulty by taking a more detailed spectral analysis and developing new estimates arising from subtle cancellations in Green’s function.

The application of butachlor as an herbicide in paddy fields is widely practiced,aiming to increase rice yield by directly or indirectly influencing the paddy *** biofilms,which form at the soil-water interface in paddy fields,are complex bioaggregates that play an important role in nitrogen (n) *** objective of this study was to investigate the effect of butachlor on periphytic biofilm growth and n cycling under both light and dark conditions in the *** results revealed that butachlor application hindered the growth of periphytic biofilms and led to the dominance of Cyanobacteria as the primary prokaryotes,while inhibiting the development of eukaryotic ***,the application of butachlor reduced the richness and diversity of prokaryotes,but increased those of eukaryotes in periphytic *** light treatments exhibited higher total n loss because light favored periphytic biofilm growth and enhanced ammonium (nH_(4)^(+)) assimilation and ***,butachlor application resulted in the increased retention of nH_(4)^(+)-n and nitrate (nO_(3)^(-))-n and an increase in n loss via *** abundances of functional genes encoding enzymes such as ammonia monooxygenase,nitrite reductase,and nitrous oxide reductase were increased by butachlor application,favoring nitrification and denitrification ***,the results suggest that butachlor application leads to an increase in total n loss mainly through denitrification in paddy systems,particularly in the presence of periphytic ***,the results may provide valuable insights into the changes in periphytic biofilm growth and n cycling induced by butachlor,and future studies can further explore the potential implications of these changes in paddy soils.
