Toward developing Ti alloys with high fatigue crack growth resistance by additive manufacturing

Fatigue crack growth behaviors were investigated by three-point bending tests for TA19 alloy fabricated by laser metal deposition and four kinds of heat-treated *** crack growth resistance of the TA19 samples in the near-threshold regime and Paris regime was evaluated through the experimental characterization and theoretical analysis of the interaction between fatigue crack andα/βphase inter-face,columnar prior-βgrain boundary and colony *** results show that in the near-threshold regime,the fatigue crack propagation threshold and resistance increase with the increase of widths of lamellarαp phases and colonies,and the decrease of the number ofαlaths with an angle(ϕ)relative to the applied stress direction ranging from 75°to 90°.In the Paris regime,the fatigue cracking path can be deflected at colony boundaries or columnar prior-βgrain *** larger the deflection angle,the more tortuous the cracking path and the lower the fatigue crack growth *** angle(γ)of the columnar prior-βgrain growth direction relative to the build direction affects not onlyϕof differentαvariants,but also the fatigue cracking path deflection angle(θij)at columnar prior-βgrain *** optimal combination ofγ=0°-15°-0°-15°for several adjacent columnar prior-βgrains is derived from the theoretical analysis,and that can effectively avoidϕbeing in the range from 75°to 90°and makeθij as large as *** findings provide a guide for the selection of scanning strategies and process parameters to additively manufacture Ti alloys with high fatigue damage tolerance.

Structure and properties of bioabsorbable polyglycolide (PGA) and poly(glycolide-co-lactide) (PGA-co-PLA)fibers were investigated during several industrial processing stages and in vitro degradation by means of wide-angle x-raydiffraction (WAxD), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and mechanical property tests. In the orientation stage, the PGAfibers were found to have higher degrees of crystallinity than corresponding PGA-co-PLA samples produced under similarconditions. In the hot-stretching and post-annealing stages, after fibers were braided, PGA samples were found to gain morecrystallinity and higher T_g than PGA-co-PLA samples. The higher crystallinity in PGA fibers resulted in a slower rate ofdegradation. DMA results showed that a great deal of internal stress that was built during orientation and hot-stretchingstages was released in the post-annealing stage for a1l PGA and PGA-co-PLA samples. During earlier stages of in vitrodegradation, both PGA and PGA-co-PLA samples exhibited the typical cleavage-induced crystallization mechanism. Theheat shrinkage in the glass transition area was found to disappear after 6-8 days of degradation for all PGA and PGA-co-PLAsamples, indicating the amorphous portions of the polymers lost orientation after a short period in the buffer solution, mostlikely due to relaxation of the cleaved chains.

Nuclear protein-1(NUPR1),also named as p8 or Com1,has been since found overexpressed in several human malignant tumor cells,such as ***1 also regulates cell cycle progression,however,the role of NUPR1 in regulating glioma cell cycle remains poorly *** efficiency of U87and U251 cells infected with lentiviral vector was detected by quantitative real-time PCR and western blot in vitro and ***-activated cell sorting(FACS) and western blot were used to explore mechanism by which NUPR1 modulates cell cycle in U87 and ***(IHC) was applied to detect expression level of P27,CDK2 and cyclin E in human glioma tissues with NUPR1 positive expression and tumorigenesis in nude *** confirmed that down-regulation of NUPR1 arrested the cell cycle in the G0/G1 phase in U87 and U251 cells in ***,the expression level of P27 was increased,and CDK2 and cyclin E were decreased upon silencing NUPR1 expression in vitro and *** conclusion,Knockdown of NUPR1 induces cell cycle arrest in G0/G1 phase in glioma cells via P27.

Reducing the measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers

Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers serve as the physical platform for nonadiabatic holonomic quantum *** quantum computation has entered the noisy intermediate-scale era, building accurate intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is clearly necessary. Given that measurements are the sole means of extracting information, they play an indispensable role in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers. Accordingly, developing methods to reduce measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is of great importance. However, while much attention has been given to the research on nonadiabatic holonomic gates, the research on reducing measurement errors in nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers is severely lacking. In this study, we propose a measurement error reduction method tailored for intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers. The reason we say this is because our method can not only reduce the measurement errors in the computer but also be useful in mitigating errors originating from nonadiabatic holonomic gates. Given these features,our method significantly advances the construction of accurate intermediate-scale nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computers.

A continuum damage model for piezoelectric materials

In this paper, a constitutive model is proposed for piezoelectric material solids containing distributed cracks. The model is formulated in a framework of continuum damage mechanics using second rank tensors as internal variables. The Helrnhotlz free energy of piezoelectric mate- rials with damage is then expressed as a polynomial including the transformed strains, the electric field vector and the tensorial damage variables by using the integrity bases restricted by the initial orthotropic symmetry of the material. By using the Talreja＇s tensor valued internal state damage variables as well as the Helrnhotlz free energy of the piezoelectric material, the constitutive relations of piezoelectric materials with damage are derived. The model is applied to a special case of piezoelectric plate with transverse matrix cracks. With the Kirchhoff hypothesis of plate, the free vibration equations of the piezoelectric rectangular plate considering damage is established. By using Galerkin method, the equations are solved. Numerical results show the effect of the damage on the free vibration of the piezoelectric plate under the close-circuit condition, and the present results are compared with those of the three-dimensional theory.

Preparation of silver nanoparticles through the reduction of straw-extracted lignin and its antibacterial hydrogel

Silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs)have attracted attention in the field of biomaterials due to their excellent antibacterial ***,the reducing and stabilizing agents used for the chemical reduction of Ag NPs are usually toxic and may cause water *** this work,Ag NPs(31.2 nm in diameter)were prepared using the extract of straw,an agricultural waste,as the reducing and stabilizing *** analysis revealed that the straw extract contained lignin,the structure of which possesses phenolic hydroxyl and methoxy groups that facilitate the reduction of silver salts into Ag *** surfaces of Ag NPs were negatively charged due to the encapsulation of a thin layer of lignin molecules that prevented their *** the prepared Ag NPs were added to the precursor solution of acrylamide,free radical polymerization was triggered without the need for extra heating or light irradiation,resulting in the rapid formation of an Ag NP-polyacrylamide composite *** inhibition zone test proved that the composite hydrogel possessed excellent antibacterial ability due to the presence of Ag *** prepared hydrogel may have potential applications in the fabrication of biomedical materials,such as antibacterial dressings.
