Elevated CO2 differentially affects tobacco and rice defense against lepidopteran larvae via the jasmonic acid signaling pathway

Atmospheric CO2 levels are rapidly increasing due to human activities. However, the effects of elevated CO2 （ECO2） on plant defense against insects and the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here we show that ECO2 increased the photosynthetic rates and the biomass of tobacco and rice plants, and the chewing lepidopteran insects Spodoptera litura and Mythimna separata gained less and more mass on tobacco and rice plants, respectively. Consistently, under ECO2, the levels of jasmonic acid （JA）, the main phytohormone controlling plant defense against these lepidopteran insects, as well as the main defense-related metabolites, were increased and decreased in insectdamaged tobacco and rice plants. Importantly, bioassays and quantification of defense-related metabolites in tobacco and rice silenced in JA biosynthesis and perception indicate that ECO2 changes plant resistance mainly by affecting the JA pathway. We further demonstrate that the defensive metabolites, but not total N or protein, are the main factors contributing to the altered defense levels under ECO2. This study illustrates that ECO2 changes the interplay between plants and insects, and we propose that crops should be studied for their resistance to the major pests under ECO2 to predict the impact of ECO2 on future agroecosystems.

This paper proposes a new experiment teaching mode. It is a kind of elite education idea and way. The research experiment projects were employed to the course in this mode. Students don’t have to complete the traditional experiment projects in the learning of this course. They can gain the score and credit by completing a full research experiment project. The research projects are come from their teacher’s research projects and some enterprise’s engineering projects. And the projects should be interest, intuitiveness, practicality, comprehensiveness, innovation and some other characters. The difficulty is that it should be required to match the level that the college students electronic designing competition. This new experiment teaching mode has been prepared from spring semester in 2011 and about 160 students were selected to take part in the new experiment teaching mode in the spring semester in 2012. The learning effectiveness was compared between the students who learned in the new mod and the students who learned in the traditional mode. The result shows that more students learned in the new mode got higher scores in the similar examination paper. What’s more, the students learned in the new mode show more flexibility in analyzing and resolving problems. They can resolve the problem better and faster than the other students.

Aim:Discover early biomarkers in urine of Walker 256 subcutaneous rat model Method:a Walker 256 tumor rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of Walker 256 tumor cells. To identify urinary proteome changes during cancer development, urine samples from Walker 256 tumor-bearing rats were collected at five time points corresponding to before cancer cell implantation, before tumor mass palpability, at tumor mass appearance, during rapid tumor growth, and at cachexia. The urinary protein patterns changed significantly as the tumors progressed, as measured using sodium dodecyl sulfatepolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE). The urinary proteome of tumor-bearing rats was identified using Fusion Lumos mass spectrometry with label-free quantification. Then, dynamically changed urinary proteins during cancer progression were selected as more reliable cancer biomarkers, and they were validated by targeted proteomics. Results:Combined with the results of label-free and targeted proteome quantification, a total of 10 urinary proteins(HPT, APOA4, CO4, B2 MG, A1 AG, CATC, VCAM1, CALB1, CSPG4, and VTDB) changed significantly even before a tumor mass was palpable, and these early changes in urine could also be identified with differential abundance at late stages of cancer. Twenty four proteins had been reported as cancer biomarkers. Nine proteins had been identified as biomarkers of breast cancer. Conclusion:Urine is a sensitive biomarker source for early detection of cancer.

The use of a background plasma in a dielectric Cherenkov maser can effectively increase the efficiency and the microwave output power of the device. Here, the effect of the longitudinal uniform magnetic field on the wave-beam interaction of the plasma-filled dielectric Cherenkov maser is examined by solving the beam-plasma, dielectric lined waveguide dispersion equation. And the effects of the longitudinal magnetic field, plasma density and dielectric parameters on the linear spatial growth rate and the energy ratio are presented.

为了探讨河滨修复湿地在不同条件下CH4的排放规律及降低CH4排放的调控途径,以自行设计和建造的河滨湿地为研究对象,对植物种类配置及植株密度进行人为调控,运用静态箱-气相色谱法测定CH4排放通量.结果表明:1CH4排放通量具有明显的季节性变化规律,其中夏季最大,占全年CH4总排放量的50%以上;冬季最小,低于全年CH4总排放量的5%.2植物种植会明显增加CH4的排放,不同植物类型通过改变w(SOC)(SOC为土壤有机碳)、气体传输机制以及产CH4菌群落来改变湿地的CH4排放,4种供试植物中,通气组织较发达的芦苇和水葱湿地CH4排放通量分别为(1.98±0.78)和(1.41±0.58)mg/(m2·h),显著低于黄菖蒲的(6.77±1.92)mg/(m2·h).3提高植株密度可以通过增加输气通道和提高w(SOC)来促进湿地CH4排放,黄菖蒲植株密度为150株/m2时,CH4平均排放通量为(10.31±2.56)mg/(m2·h),比植株密度为56株/m2时高出近30%.因此,建议在新建和修复河滨湿地的设计和建造过程中,种植芦苇和水葱等通气组织较发达的植物,并在满足湿地修复、生态环境保护和景观营造等要求的前提下,适当控制植株密度,以有效减少CH4排放.

Assessment of Soil Quality of Tidal Marshes in Shanghai City

We take three types of tidal marshes in Shanghai City as the study object:tidal marshes in mainland,tidal marshes in the rim of islands,and shoal in Yangtze *** the basis of assessing nutrient quality and environmental quality,respectively,we use soil quality index(SQI)to assess the soil quality of tidal flats,meanwhile formulate the quality grading standards,and analyze the current situation and characteristics of *** results show that except the north of Hangzhou Bay,Nanhui and Jiuduansha with low soil nutrient quality,there are not obvious differences in soil nutrient quality between other regions;the heavy metal pollution of tidal marshes in mainland is more serious than that of tidal marshes in the rim of islands;in terms of the comprehensive soil quality index,the regions are sequenced as follows:Jiuduansha wetland>Chongming Dongtan wetland>Nanhui tidal flat>tidal flat on the periphery of Chongming Island>tidal flat on the periphery of Hengsha Island>Pudong tidal flat>Baoshan tidal flat>tidal flat on the periphery of Changxing Island>tidal flat in the north of Hangzhou *** them,Jiuduansha wetland and Chongming Dongtan wetland have the best soil quality,belonging to class III,followed by Nanhui tidal flat,tidal flat on the periphery of Chongming Island and tidal flat on the periphery of Hengsha Island,belonging to class IV;tidal flat on the periphery of Changxing Island,Pudong tidal flat,Baoshan tidal flat and tidal flat in the north of Hangzhou Bay belong to class V.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)and atherosclerosis(AS)have considerable similarities in clinical risk factors and molecular *** aim of our study was to investigate the differences between AAA and AS from the perspective of metabolomics,and to explore the potential mechanisms of differential metabolites via integration analysis with *** samples from 32 AAA and 32 AS patients were applied to characterize the metabolite profiles using untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS).A total of 18 remarkably different metabolites were identified,and a combination of seven metabolites could potentially serve as a biomarker to distinguish AAA and AS,with an area under the curve(AUC)***,we analyzed both the metabolomics and transcriptomics data and found that seven metabolites,especially 2’-deoxy-D-ribose(2 d DR),were significantly correlated with differentially expressed *** conclusion,our study presents a comprehensive landscape of plasma metabolites in AAA and AS patients,and provides a research direction for pathogenetic mechanisms in atherosclerotic AAA.
