Effect of partial hepatectomy on the memory ability in rats

BACKGROUND： Patients suffer from changes of cognitive function postoperatively, which has attracted extensive attentions in clinic. It is still to be investigated whether operation damages both antegrade memory and retrograde memory, or either of them. OBJECTIVE： To observe the effects of operation on the anterograde and retrograde memory with Y maze test. DESIGN： A randomly controlled animal trial. SETTING： Department of Anesthesiology, Pudong New Area Gongli Hospital of Shanghai City. MATERIALS： Sixty-three male healthy Sprague-Dawley （SD） rats of clean degree, weighing 200 - 250 g, 10 weeks old, were provided by the animal center of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The rats were tested by antegrade and retrograde respectively. The rats were randomly divided into normal control group （n =7）, anesthesia group （n =14）, sham-operated group （n =14）; partial hepatectomy group （n =14）, short-term retrograde memory group （n =7） and long-term retrograde memory group （n =7）. According to the time of Y maze training started, rats in the anesthesia group, sham-operated group and partial hepatectomy group were observed at 1 and 7 days after anesthesia. METHODS： The experiments were carried out in the central laboratory of Pudong New Area Gongli Hospital of Shanghai City from February to june in 2006. ① Test for antegrade memory： Rats in the normal control group were only treated with intraperitoneal injection of saline without aesthesia and operation; Those in the anesthesia group were anesthetized with intraperitoneal injection of 10 g/L pentobarbital sodium （40 mg/kg）; Those in the sham-operated group were anesthetized, then intraperitoneal exploration was performed without hepatectomy; Those in the partial hepatectomy group were anesthetized, then fixed in a supine position after righting reflex disappeared, and an incision of 1.5 - 2.0 cm was made along the midline of xiphoid lower abdomen, then left lateral lobe of liver （about 1/3 of total liver） was freed, and ligated at d

How to estimate the effect of an intense meteor shower on human space activities

In the present age,the potential threat to space projects coming from some intense meteor storms has been ***,the increasing activities of mankind in space for scientific,commercial and military purposes have led to an increase in safety-related problems about the satellites,space stations and *** new techniques for observing meteors and meteor showers have been ***,how to estimate even predict the effect of an intense meteor shower should be further *** initial definition about a meteor storm based on visual observations with a Zenithal Hourly Rate of over one thousand seems insufficient,since it only means a storm or burst of meteors in *** 2006 the author suggested a synthetical index of the potential threats about intense activities of meteors;however,it is too complex to determine several *** this paper,the author suggests a Special True Number Flux Density(STNFD).Set a certain energy-limit,or a certain electric-charge-limit,and then calculate the number flux *** the comparison between two of the 10 strong meteor showers in recent years it is found that the important factor affecting the space flight security is not only the number of meteoroids,but also their velocities,their average energy and the population index *** show that Giacobinids,even june Bootids,should be one of the most hazardous meteor showers.

Clinical value of liver and spleen shear wave velocity in predicting the prognosis of patients with portal hypertension

AIM To explore the relationship of liver and spleen shear wave velocity in patients with liver cirrhosis combined with portal hypertension,and assess the value of liver and spleen shear wave velocity in predicting the prognosis of patients with portal *** All 67 patients with liver cirrhosis diagnosed as portal hypertension by hepatic venous pressure gradient in our hospital from june 2014 to December 2014 were enrolled into this study. The baseline information of these patients was recorded. Furthermore,67 patients were followed-up at 20 mo after treatment,and liver and spleen shear wave velocity were measured by acoustic radiation force impulse at the 1^(st) week,3^(rd) month and 9^(th) month after treatment. Patients with favorable prognosis were assigned into the favorable prognosis group,while patients with unfavorable prognosis were assigned into the unfavorable prognosis group. The variation and difference in liver and spleen shear wave velocity in these two groups were analyzed by repeated measurement analysis of variance. Meanwhile,in order to evaluate the effect of liver and spleen shear wave velocity on the prognosis of patients with portal hypertension,Cox's proportional hazard regression model analysis was applied. The ability of those factors in predicting the prognosis of patients with portal hypertension was calculated through receiver operating characteristic(ROC) *** The liver and spleen shear wave velocity in the favorable prognosis group revealed a clear decline,while those in the unfavorable prognosis group revealed an increasing tendency at different time points. Furthermore,liver and spleen shear wave velocity was higher in the unfavorable prognosis group,compared with the favorable prognosis group; the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05). The prognosis of patients with portal hypertension was significantly affected by spleen hardness at the 3^(rd) month after treatment [relative risk(RR) = 3.481].

Parameter evaluation for soil erosion estimation on small watersheds using SWAT model

This research was undertaken for the evaluation of soil erosion using the semi-distributed basin scale SWAT model for four subcatchments of the Dhrabi River Catchment(DRC),which is located in the Pothwar Plateau *** subcatchments(catchment-25 and-31)are characterized by gullies while the other two(catchment-27 and-32)are managed with terraced landuse *** performance of the model was satisfactory with coefficient of determination(R^(2))=0.67 to 0.91 and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(ENS)=0.54 to 0.85 for both surface runoff and sediment yield during the calibration(2009-2010)and validation(2011)*** PUSLE factor was found to be the most sensitive parameter during model *** was observed that all of the rainfall-runoff events occurred during the monsoon season(june to September).The estimated annual sediment loss ranged from 2.6 t/hm^(2) to 31.1 t/hm^(2) over the duration of the simulation period for the non-terraced catchments,in response to annual precipitation amounts that were between 194.8 mm to 579.3 *** contrast,the predicted annual sediment levels for the terraced catchments ranged from 0.52 t/hm^(2) to 10.10 t/hm^(2) due to similar precipitation *** terraced catchments resulted in 4 to 5 times lower sediment yield as compared to non-terraced *** results suggest that there is a huge potential for terraces to reduce soil erosion in the DRC specifically and Pothwar area generally,which have proven to be an efficient approach to establishing soil and water conservation structures in this region.

Computed tomography-based score model/nomogram for predicting technical and midterm outcomes in transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt treatment for symptomatic portal cavernoma

Peaked abundance of Calanus sinicus earlier shifted in the Changjiang River (Yangtze River) Estuary:a comparable study between 1959,2002 and 2005

The sea surface temperature （SST） of the East China Sea （ECS） increased in the past decades, which may have a great impact on the ecosystem of the ECS, including the changes in planktonpopulation structure. In this paper, the changes in peaked abundance of Calanus sinicus in the Changjiang River （Yangtze River） Estuary were compared between 1959 and 2002, based on the data collected from the seasonally oceanographic cruises and those performed in spring of 2005. It was much higher in spring compared with that in other seasons both in 1959 and 2002. Furthermore, in spring 2005, the time for occurrence and decrease of the peaked C. sinicus abundance advanced about one month, accompanying the increase in the sea surface water temperature （SST）. It peaked in june and decreased in July in 1959, however, in 2005, it peaked in May and attenuated sharply in early june. The earlier decrease of peaked C. sinicus abundance may further deteriorate the ecosystem in the Changjiang River Estuary and north nearshore of the ECS.
