The current letter to the editor pertains to the manuscript entitled'Uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 prevents the progression of liver injury'.Increased levels of uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 during liver injury could mitigate damage by reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress,oxidative stress,and dysregulated lipid metabolism,impeding hepatocyte apoptosis and necroptosis.

Abrupt visual loss during anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment for type 3 neovascularization

AIM: To investigate the incidence of abrupt visual loss and its associated factors, during anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) treatment for type 3 ***: This retrospective study included 137 eyes that were newly diagnosed with type 3 neovascularization. All eyes were treated with anti-VEGF therapy. Abrupt visual loss was defined as loss of 5 or more lines in best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) in comparison to the previous visit. The incidence and timing of abrupt visual loss as well as the factors associated with it, were determined. In addition, the BCVA at the final follow-up was compared between the eyes with and those without abrupt visual ***: The mean follow-up period was 42.4±18.9 mo after diagnosis, and abrupt visual loss was noted in 22 eyes(16.1%) at a mean of 19.6±13.9 mo. Abrupt visual loss was found to be associated with subretinal hemorrhage in 11 eyes(50.0%), development of or increase in the height of pigment epithelial detachment with fluid in 8 eyes(36.4%), and tears in the retinal pigment epithelium in 3 eyes(13.6%). The logarithm of minimum angle of resolution(logMAR) mean BCVA at the final follow-up was 2.07±0.67(Snellen equivalents: 20/2349) and 1.00±0.55(20/200) in eyes with and without abrupt visual loss, respectively. BCVA was significantly worse in the eyes with abrupt visual loss(P<0.001).CONCLUSION: Abrupt visual loss is noted in 16.1% of patients with type 3 neovascularization and is associated with poor visual outcome. Additional studies are needed to determine how abrupt visual loss can be prevented.

The induction of regulated cell death(RCD)through photo/ultrasound sensiti-zation therapeutic agents has gained significant attention as a vital approach to combat drug resistance in ***-induced emission(AIE)therapeutic agents generate reactive oxygen species through photo/ultrasound activation,which can synergize with RCD inducers or directly induce RCD,ultimately resulting in the death of tumor *** presented comprehensive review delves into recent advancements in AIE therapeutic agents designed to trigger RCD or synergize with RCD inducers,encompassing apoptosis,necroptosis,pyroptosis,immunogenic cell death,autophagy,ferroptosis,and ***,the intricate regula-tory mechanisms through which activatory-AIE therapeutics influence distinct RCD pathways are examined.A forward-looking perspective on future developments and pertinent challenges within this exciting realm is presented,anticipating the con-tinued evolution of activatable AIE therapeutics as a transformative approach to enhance tumor therapy.

AIM： To determine intestinal permeability, the serum tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-α level and urine nitric oxide （NO） metabolites are altered in liver cirrhosis （LC） with or without ascites. METHODS： Fifty-three patients with LC and 26 healthy control subjects were enrolled in the study. The intestinal permeability value is expressed as the percentage of polyethylene glycol （PEG） 400 and 3350 retrieval in 8-h urine samples as determined by high performance liquid chromatography. Serum TNF-α concentrations and urine NO metabolites were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） and Greiss reaction method, respectively. RESULTS： The intestinal permeability index wassignificantly higher in patients with LC with ascites than in healthy control subjects or patients with LC without ascites （0.88 ± 0.12 vs 0.52 ± 0.05 or 0.53 ± 0.03, P 〈 0.05） and correlated with urine nitrite excretion （r = 0.98）. Interestingly, the serum TNF-α concentration was significantly higher in LC without ascites than in control subjects or in LC with ascites （198.9 ± 55.8 pg/mL vs 40.9 ± 12.3 pg/mL or 32.1 ± 13.3 pg/mL, P 〈 0.05）. Urine nitrite excretion was significantly higher in LC with ascites than in the control subjects or in LC without ascites（ 1170.9± 28.7 μmol/L vs 903.1 ± 55.1 μmol/L or 956.7 ± 47.7 μmol/L, P 〈 0.05）. COMCLUSIOM： Increased intestinal macromolecular permeability and NO is probably of importance in the pathophysiology and progression of LC with ascites, but the serum TNF-α concentration was not related to LC with ascites.

The southeastern China(SEC)forest is an important terrestrial biospheric carbon sink in the global carbon cycle,with its total net ecosystem exchange(NEE)accounting for about 3.2%of the global forest *** prevailing atmospheric intraseasonal oscillations(ISOs)over East Asia strongly modulate climatic conditions over the SEC during spring and summer,thus leading to significant ISOs in the NEE of the SEC *** atmospheric ISOs show strong seasonality,this study examined the distinctive impacts of atmospheric ISOs on the NEE of the SEC forest between spring and *** spring,the vertical coupling of 10–30-d atmospheric ISOs in the lower and upper troposphere leads to strong 10‒30-d ISOs of solar radiation and temperature over the *** 10‒30-d ISOs of solar radiation and temperature further result in the 10‒30-d ISOs of gross primary productivity(GPP)and terrestrial ecosystem respiration(TER).With the covariation in GPP and TER,the NEE of the SEC forest exhibits significant 10‒30-d *** contrast,the intraseasonal variations in climatic conditions over the SEC are associated with the 15‒60-d tropical atmospheric ISO during *** the induced 15‒60-d ISO of solar radiation leads to that of GPP,the induced 15‒60-d ISO of temperature is small and less effective;thus,the 15‒60-d ISO of NEE mainly originates from that of GPP.

Preparation and UV-light Absorption Property of Oleic Acid Surface Modified ZnO Nanoparticles

Syntheses of zince oxide（ZnO） nanoparticles by direct precipitation and surface modification with oleic acid were reported. ZnO nanoparticles were characterized via X-ray diffractometry（XRD）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, infrared spectroscopy（IR） and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The prepared ZnO nanoparticles were nearly spherical and highly crystalline with an average size of 29 nm. In addition, high UV-light absorption properties of oleic acid surface modified ZnO nanoparticles were successfully obtained for a dispersion of ZnO nanoparticles in ethanol.
