Aluminum doped ZnO(AZO) nanorods were synthesized by microemulsion method with different types of surfactants.The phase and the morphology of the above nanorods were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).SEM observations showed that the ZnO nanorods had diameters around about 50—200 nm and lengths up to several micrometers.The CO gas sensing properties of the AZO nanorods were tested at operating temperatures of 200,300,350 and 400 ℃.It was found that AZO nanorods based sensor exhibited the highest sensitivity to CO at 350℃.

We present a new class of metastable high-entropy alloys(HEAs),triggering deformation-induced martensitic transformation(DIMT)from face-centered-cubic(FCC)to body-centered-cubic(BCC),i.e.,BCC-DIMT.Through the ab-initio calculation based on 1 st order axial interaction model and combined with the Gibbs free energy calculation,the addition of Si is considered as a critical element which enables to reduce the intrinsic stacking fault energy(ISFE)in Si_xV_((9-x))Cr_(10)Mn_5 Fe_(46)Co_(30)(x=2,4,and 7 at.%)alloy system.The ISFE decreases from-30.4 to-35.5 mJ/m^(2)as the Si content increases from 2 to 7 at.%,which well corresponds to the reduced phase stability of FCC against HCP.The BCC-DIMT occurs in all the alloys via intermediate HCP martensite,and the HCP martensite provides nucleation sites of BCC martensite.Therefore,the transformation rate enhances as the Si content increases in an earlier deformation ra nge.However,the BCC-DIMT is also affected by the phase stability of FCC against BCC,and the stability is the highest at the Si content of 7 at.%.Thus,the 7Si alloy presents the moderate transformation rate in the later deformation range.Due to the well-controlled transformation rate and consequent strain-ha rdening rate,the 7Si alloy possesses the superior combination of strength and ductility beyond 1 GPa of tensile strength at room temperature.Our results suggest that the Si addition can be a favorable candidate in various metastable HEAs for the further property improvement.

As industries develop,fire disasters and their associated damage are increasing.Investigating the mental health of victims is imperative because this is an essential issue for community recovery after a disaster.This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of a program implemented by a community mental health center based on the investigation of the victims’depression and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)levels immediately after the disaster and at one-year follow-up.As a result,victims’depression and PTSD recovered over time,and more changes were confirmed.In particular,the high-risk group for PTSD showed a high program participation rate,and there was significant recovery over time compared with the group without PTSD.Based on these results,community mental health programs are an effective way to increase community mental health after disasters.In the future,community-based recovery programs after disasters should be expanded,and administrative support for them should be developed.

OBJECTIVE:The interleukin(IL)-12 cytokine family is closely related to the development of T helper cells,which are responsible for autoimmune disease enhancement or suppression.IL-12 family members are generally heterodimers and share threeα-subunits(p35,p19,and p28)and twoβ-subunits(p40 and EBI3).However,aβ-sheet p40 homodimer has been shown to exist and antagonize IL-12 and IL-23 signaling 1.Therefore,we assumed the existence of a p40-EBI3 heterodimer in nature and sought to investigate its role in immune regulation.METHODS:The presence of the p40-EBI3 heterodimer was confirmed by ELISA,immunoprecipitation,and western blotting.A p40-EBI3 vector and p40-EBI3-Fc protein were synthesized to confirm the immunological role of this protein in mice with collageninduced arthritis(CIA).The anti-inflammatory effects of p40-EBI3 were analyzed with regard to clinical,histological,and immune cell-regulating features in mice with CIA.RESULTS:Clinical arthritis scores and the expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines(e.g.,IL-17,IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-α)were significantly attenuated in p40-EBI3-overexpressing and p40-EBI3-Fc-treated mice with CIA compared to vehicle-treated mice with CIA.Structural joint damage and vessel formation-related gene expression were also reduced by p40-EBI3 heterodimer treatment.In vitro,the p40-EBI3-Fc protein significantly suppressed the differentiation of Th17 cells and reciprocally induced CD4+CD25+Foxp3+(regulatory T)cells.p40-EBI3 also inhibited osteoclast formation in a concentrationdependent manner.CONCLUSION:In this study,p40-EBI3 ameliorated proinflammatory conditions both in vivo and in vitro.We propose that p40-EBI3 is a novel anti-inflammatory cytokine involved in suppressing the immune response through the expansion of Treg cells and suppression of Th17 cells and osteoclastogenesis.

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective on alcohol use disorder.However,the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood.To investigate the effects of Shenmen(HT7)acupoint on brain activation induced by cue-elicited alcohol craving,30 right-handed healthy light to moderate alcohol drinkers were recruited from the community.They were randomly assigned to undergo acupuncture either at HT7(experimental acupoint,n=15)or Jingqu(LU8,control acupoint,n=15)acupoints.This randomized controlled study was performed in Daegu Haany University and Daegu-Gyeongbuk Medical Innovation Foundation,Republic of Korea.Recruitment and data collection were conducted from December 2018 to May 2019.The results showed that after acupuncture at HT7 acupoint,the activation of orbitofrontal cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex was greatly increased,while the activation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex was obviously reduced,and subject's craving for alcohol was reduced when he/she seeing alcohol-related video clips involving various alcohols(beer,wine,or soju)or drinking scenarios.Acupuncture at HT7 more greatly reduced subject's alcohol cravings than acupuncture at LU8 acupoint.These findings suggest that acupuncture can improve the self-control of mild to moderate social drinkers through the activation of the orbitofrontal cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex,thereby reducing the craving for alcohol.The study protocol was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Daegu Haany University Korean Medicine Hospital,Republic of Korea(approval No.DHUMC-D-18026-PRO-02)on November 30,2018.

Although bismuth vanadate(BiVO4)has been promising as photoanode material for photoelectrochemical water splitting,its charge recombination issue by short charge diffusion length has led to various studies about heterostructure photoanodes.As a hole blocking layer of BiVO4,titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)) has been considered unsuitable because of its relatively positive valence band edge and low electrical conductivity.Herein,a crystal facet engineering of TiO_(2) nanostructures is proposed to control band structures for the hole blocking layer of BiVO4 nanodots.We design two types of TiO_(2) nanostructures,which are nanorods(NRs)and nanoflowers(NFs)with different(001)and(110)crystal facets,respectively,and fabricate BiVO4/TiO_(2) heterostructure photoanodes.The BiVO4/TiO_(2) NFs showed 4.8 times higher photocurrent density than the BiVO4/TiO_(2) NRs.Transient decay time analysis and time-resolved photoluminescence reveal the enhancement is attributed to the reduced charge recombination,which is originated from the formation of type II band alignment between BiVO4 nanodots and TiO_(2) NFs.This work provides not only new insights into the interplay between crystal facets and band structures but also important steps for the design of highly efficient photoelectrodes.

Owing to the prevalence of rotator cuff(RC)injuries and suboptimal healing outcome,rapid and functional regeneration of the tendon-bone interface(TBI)after RC repair continues to be a major clinical challenge.Given the essential role of the RC in shoulder movement,the engineering of biomimetic multi-tissue constructs presents an opportunity for complex TBI reconstruction after RC repair.Here,we propose a gradient cell-laden multi-tissue construct combined with compositional gradient TBI-specific bioinks via 3D cell-printing technology.In vitro studies demonstrated the capability of a gradient scaffold system in zone-specific inducibility and multi-tissue formation mimicking TBI.The regenerative performance of the gradient scaffold on RC regeneration was determined using a rat RC repair model.In particular,we adopted nondestructive,consecutive,and tissue-targeted near-infrared fluorescence imaging to visualize the direct anatomical change and the intricate RC regeneration progression in real time in vivo.Furthermore,the 3D cell-printed implant promotes effective restoration of shoulder locomotion function and accelerates TBI healing in vivo.In summary,this study identifies the therapeutic contribution of cell-printed constructs towards functional RC regeneration,demonstrating the translational potential of biomimetic gradient constructs for the clinical repair of multi-tissue interfaces.

Groundwater contamination and natural attenuation capacity at a petroleum spilled facility in Korea

As a remedial option, the natural attenuation capacity of a petroleum contaminated groundwater at a military facility was examined. Hydrogeological conditions, such as high water level, permeable uppermost layer and frequent heavy rainfall, were favorable to natural attenuation at this site. The changes in the concentrations of electron acceptors and donors, as well as the relevant hydrochemical conditions, indicated the occurrence of aerobic respiration, denitrification, iron reduction, manganese reduction and sulfate reduction. The calculated BTEX expressed biodegradation capacity ranged between 20.52 and 33.67 mg/L, which appeared effective for the reduction of the contaminants levels. The contribution of each electron accepting process to the total biodegradation was in the order： denitrification 〉 iron reduction 〉 sulfate reduction 〉 aerobic respiration 〉 manganese reduction. The BTEX and benzene point attenuation rates were 0.0058-0.0064 and 0.0005-0.0032 day-1, respectively, and the remediation time was 0.7-1.2 and 2.5-30 years, respectively. The BTEX and benzene bulk attenuation rates were 8.69 × 10^-4 and 1.05 × 10^-3 day-l, respectively, and the remediation times for BTEX and benzene were 7.2 and 17.5 years, respectively. However, most of the natural attenuation occurring in this site can be attributed to dilution and dispersion. Consequently, the biodegradation and natural attenuation capacities were good enough to lower the contaminants levels, but their rates appeared to be insufficient to reach the remediation goal within a reasonable time frame. Therefore, some active remedial measures would be required.
