Reliable high temperature, high humidity flexible thin film encapsulation using Al2O3/MgO nanolaminates for flexible OLEDs

Since most organic materials are very sensitive to moisture and oxygen, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) require an encapsulation layer to protect the active layer from these gases. Since light, flexible and portable OLEDs are being employed in more diverse climates and environmental conditions, the OLED encapsulation layer must retain robust mechanical properties and stability in high temperature/high humidity conditions. Al2O3 films have demonstrated excellent barrier performance, but they readily hydrolyze when exposed to prolonged harsh environments. In this study, we fabricated a thin film encapsulation (TFE) film that was resistant to hydrolysis, using Al2O3/MgO (AM) nanolaminates. MgO has superior resistance to harsh environments, and the aluminate phase generated by the chemical reaction of Al2O3 and MgO provided excellent barrier performance, even after storage in harsh conditions. A multi-barrier fabricated using the AM nanolaminate showed excellent barrier performance, close to the level required by OLEDs. It did not significantly deteriorate even after a bending test of 1,000 iterations at 0.63% strain. After 1,000 cycle of bending, the electrical properties of the passivated OLEDs were not significantly degraded at shelf-lifetime test where the fabricated device was stored for 50 days in a harsh environment of 60℃, 90% relative humidity. The multi-barrier shows the best performance compared to previous studies on flexible encapsulation that can be used in harsh environments.

Monocyte/macrophage lineage cells are highly plastic and can differentiate into various cells under different environmental stimuli. Bone-resorbing osteoclasts are derived from the monocyte/macrophage lineage in response to receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL). However, the epigenetic signature contributing to the fate commitment of monocyte/macrophage lineage differentiation into human osteoclasts is largely unknown. In this study, we identified RANKL-responsive human osteoclast-specific superenhancers (SEs) and SE-associated enhancer RNAs (SE-eRNAs) by integrating data obtained from ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, nuclear RNA-seq and PRO-seq analyses. RANKL induced the formation of 200 SEs, which are large clusters of enhancers, while suppressing 148 SEs in macrophages. RANKL-responsive SEs were strongly correlated with genes in the osteoclastogenic program and were selectively increased in human osteoclasts but marginally presented in osteoblasts, CD4+ T cells, and CD34+ cells. In addition to the major transcription factors identified in osteoclasts, we found that BATF binding motifs were highly enriched in RANKL-responsive SEs. The depletion of BATF1/3 inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation. Furthermore, we found increased chromatin accessibility in SE regions, where RNA polymerase II was significantly recruited to induce the extragenic transcription of SE-eRNAs, in human osteoclasts. Knocking down SE-eRNAs in the vicinity of the NFATc1 gene diminished the expression of NFATc1, a major regulator of osteoclasts, and osteoclast differentiation. Inhibiting BET proteins suppressed the formation of some RANKL-responsive SEs and NFATc1-associated SEs, and the expression of SE-eRNA:NFATc1. Moreover, SE-eRNA:NFATc1 was highly expressed in the synovial macrophages of rheumatoid arthritis patients exhibiting high-osteoclastogenic potential. Long-distance migratory birds travel more rapidly in spring than in autumn,as they face temporal breeding ***,several species travel slower in spring owing to environmental influences,such as food availability and wind *** trackers were attached to 17 Whooper Swans(Cygnus cygnus) inhabiting northeastern Mongolia,to determine their migration routes and stopover sites in spring and *** between spring and autumn migrations,migration-influencing parameters,and the effect of spring stopover site temperatures were *** swans completed perfect tours between their wintering and breeding sites,and these data were used for *** migration lasted 57 days,with 49.2 days spent at 3.7 stopover *** migration lasted 21.5 days,with 17.5 days spent at 1.0 stopover ***,the swans traveled more rapidly in autumn than in *** distance,number of stopovers,migration speed,and straightness were important migration determinants in both spring and *** distance,stopover duration,number of stopovers,daily travel speed,travel duration,and migration speed differed significantly between spring and *** spring migration,the temperature at the current stopover sites and that at the future stopover sites displayed significant variations(t=1585.8,df=631.6,p <0.001).These findings are critical for the conservation and management of Whooper Swans and their key habitats in East Asian regions,and the data are anticipated to make a particularly significant contribution toward developing detailed management plans for the conservation of their key habitats.

Leptin and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ expression in colorectal adenoma

AIM:To investigate the expressions of leptin and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ(PPARG) in relation to body mass index(BMI).METHODS:We evaluated leptin and PPARG expression in 30 adenomas over 1 cm in size by immunohistochemical *** addition,clinicopathologic features including BMI were ***:PPARG and leptin expression showed a strong positive correlation(P = 0.035).The average BMI of the leptin-positive group was higher than that of the leptin-negative group(25.4 ± 3.4 kg/m 2 vs 22.6 ± 2.4 kg/m 2,P = 0.018),and leptin expression was significantly correlated with high BMI(P = 0.024).Leptinexpression was more frequently observed in intermediate/high grade dysplasia than in low grade dysplasia(P = 0.030).However,PPARG expression was not correlated with BMI and grade of ***:BMI has influenced on the leptin expression of colorectal *** exact mechanism underlies the strong correlation between leptin and PPARG expression needs further study.

Strategy of photo-protection in phytoplankton assemblages in the Kongsfjorden, Svalbard, Arctic

Photo-protective functions were investigated in phytoplankton assemblages at Kongsfjorden,Svalbard in spring,using their UV-absorbing compounds(mycosporine-like amino acids(MAAs)),xanthophyll pigments(diadinoxanthin(DD) and diatoxanthin(DT)) and - dimethylsulphoniopropionate(- DMSP). The dominant phytoplankton species in the inner bay were dominated by Phaeocystis spp. and nanoflagellates,while the offshore waters were dominated by Thalassiosira spp. In the inner bay,UVabsorbing compounds and xanthophyll pigments exhibited higher ratios of MAA to chlorophyll a(MAA:chl a ratio),and both DD and DT to chlorophyll a(DD:chl a ratio and DT:chl a ratio),***,the photoprotective-pigments such as DD and DT appear to complement MAAs in the natural phytoplankton assemblage. However,the ratio of- DMSP to chlorophyll a(-DMSP:chl a ratio) did not show a distinct spatial distribution according to environmental factors or interspecies differences. In this study,we found that photoprotective compounds occurred in a manner dependent on the phytoplankton species composition in Kongsfjorden Bay,where Phaeocystis is the dominant species.

Clinical significance of MET gene amplification in metastatic or locally advanced gastric cancer treated with first-line fluoropyrimidine and platinum combination chemotherapy

Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of MET gene amplification in patients with gastric cancer in the palliative ***: MET amplification was assessed using fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH) in 50 patients and quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) in 326 patients;259 patients treated with first-line fluoropyrimidine and platinum were included for survival ***: The results of FISH and qPCR indicated that the c-MET/CEP7 ratio was correlated with gene copy number. The optimal cutoff value for the copy number using qPCR to detect MET gene amplification with FISH was 5(κ=0.778, P5 detected by qPCR. MET-amplified gastric cancer was associated with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG) performance status(PS) score of ≥2(33.3% vs. 10.5% P=0.007), peritoneal metastasis(76.2% vs. 46.2%, P=0.008), and elevated bilirubin levels(28.6% vs. 7.3%, P=0.006). The median overall survival(OS) and progression-free survival(PFS) were 11.9 and 5.6 months, respectively. MET-amplified gastric cancer was not associated with survival outcomes [hazard ratio(HR)=0.68, 95% confidence interval(95% CI): 0.35-1.32,P=0.254 for PFS;HR=0.68, 95% CI: 0.35-1.32, P=0.251 for OS].Conclusions: qPCR can be used to detect MET gene amplification. MET amplification was not a predictor of poor prognosis in patients with metastatic or unresectable gastric cancer.
