Mitochondrial H_(2)S_(n)-Mediated Anti-Inflammatory Theranostics

The insistent demand for space-controllable delivery,which reduces the side effects of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAIDs),has led to the development of a new theranostics-based approach for anti-inflammatory *** current anti-inflammatory treatments can be improved by designing a drug delivery system responsive to the inflammatory site biomarker,hydrogen polysulfide(H_(2)S_(n)).Here,we report a noveltheranostic agent 1(TA1),consisting of three parts:H_(2)S_(n)-mediated triggering part,a two-photon fluorophore bearing mitochondria targeting unit(Rhodol-TPP),and anti-inflammatory COX inhibitor(indomethacin).In vitro experiments showed that TA1 selectively reacts with H_(2)S_(n)to concomitantly release both Rhodol-TPP and ***-microscopy imaging of inflammation-inducedlive cells suggested that TA1 is localized in the mitochondria where the H_(2)S_(n)is *** TA1 reacted with H_(2)S_(n)in the endogenous and exogenous H_(2)S_(n)environments and in lipopolysaccharide treated inflammatory ***,TA1 suppressed COX-2 level in the inflammatory-induced cells and prostaglandin E 2(PGE2)level in blood serum from inflammation-induced mouse *** vivo experiments with inflammation-induced mouse models suggested that TA1 exhibits inflammation-site-elective drug release followed by significant therapeutic e ects,showing its function as a theranostic agent,capable of both anti-inflammatory therapy and precise *** behavior of TA1 is highly applicable in vivo model therapeutics for the inflammatory disease.

Microstructure and texture evolution of Ti-Nb-Si based alloys for biomedical applications

Microstructure and texture of Ti-Nb-Si based alloys, prepared by water quenching from β-phase field, cold rolling and recrystallization heat treatment followed by water quenching, were investigated in terms of optical microstructure and analysis of X-ray pole figure result. In as-quenched sample, relatively random distribution of pole figure was detected without showing a specific texture component. In as-cold rolled sample, however, it is found well-developed several texture components consisting of rotated cube, α-fiber and γ-fiber texture components which are frequently observed in bcc-structured metals and alloys were found. Therefore, texture components developed in the present alloys are closely related to the deformation of β-phase even though small amount of α″ phase co-exist in the microstructure. In recrystallized sample, α-fiber texture component is weakly detected while the other texture components, rotated cube and γ-fiber components, appears to be relatively unchanged. No additional texture components were detected besides those texture components observed in the cold rolled samples.

Fault area estimation using traveling wave for wide area protection

As the increasing number of Phasor Measurement Units(PMUs) are deployed, wide area protection in power systems has been gaining interest. In particular, fault detection, fault classification and fault area estimation are essential to reduce the damage of faults, and even prevent catastrophic cascades of failures. In this paper, we present a scheme for fault area estimation using PMUs and traveling wave theory. The purpose of this paper is to formulate a scheme for fault area estimation by calculating the approximate fault location based on traveling wave *** research has targeted at reliable operation of wide transmission system through the estimation of fault *** verify the suggested scheme, the various simulations are performed in practical Korean power transmission *** simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a good performance with high accuracy for estimating fault area.

Mechanical wet-milling and subsequent consolidation of ultra-fine Al_2O_3-(ZrO_2+3%Y_2O_3) bioceramics by using high-frequency induction heat sintering

Alumina/zirconia composites were synthesized by wet-milling technique and rapid consolidation with high frequency induction heat sintering(HFIHS). The starting materials were a mixture of alumina micro-powder (80%, volume fraction) and 3YSZ nano-powders (20%). The mixtures were optimized for good sintering behaviors and mechanical properties. Nano-crystalline grains are obtained after 24 h milling. The nano-structured powder compacts are then processed to full density at different temperatures by HFIHS. Effects of temperature on the mechanical and microstructure properties were studied. Al2O3-3YSZ composites with higher mechanical properties and small grain size are successfully developed at relatively low temperatures through this technique.

Dually-functionalized Ni-rich layered oxides for high-capacity lithium-ion batteries

Layered lithium nickel-cobalt-manganese oxides(NCM)have been highlighted as advanced cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs);however,their low interfacial stability must be overcome to ensure stable cycling performance of the *** this work,we propose a one-step surface modification method that uses a task-specific precursor,N,N,N,N-tetraethylsulfamide(NTESA),to improve interfacial stability of Ni-rich NCM cathode *** unstable surface properties of Ni-rich NCM cathode material are improved by embedding an artificial cathode-electrolyte interphase(CEI)layer on the cathode surface by heat treatment of the Ni-rich NCM cathode material with an NTESA precursor at low *** material analyses indicate that this approach allows the formation of amine-and sulfone-functionalized CEI layers on the surface of Ni-rich NCM cathode material without changing the layered structure of the cathode ***-functionalized Ni-rich NCM cathode materials exhibit improved cycling retention after 100 cycles:for example,a cell cycled with a 3.0 NTESA-modified NCM811 cathode presents the highest retention ratio of 88.3%,whereas a cell cycled with a non-functionalized NCM811 cathode suffers from rapid fading of the cycling performance(68.4%).Our additional SEM,XPS,and EIS analyses indicate that electrolyte decomposition is suppressed during electrochemical cycling,thereby leading to smaller increases in the internal ***-MS analyses of the cycled anodes also indicate that the NTESA-based artificial CEI layer inhibits the dissolution of transition metal components from the Ni-rich NCM cathode materials,thereby contributing to an improved overall electrochemical performance of the cell.

A unified formulation of optimal guidance-to-collision law for accelerating and decelerating targets

This paper provides a unified formulation of optimal guidance-to-collision law for a target with an arbitrary acceleration or *** collision course for general target acceleration or deceleration is first determined from the engagement geometry in conjunction with the nonlinear engagement kinematics in the proposed *** heading error defined in the collision course is then adopted as a variable to be nullified for accomplishing the intercept *** proposed guidance law is derived based on the heading error dynamics and the optimal error dynamics to ensure optimality and finite-time *** illustrative examples,the proposed guidance command for a constant target acceleration and a target deceleration in the form of a quadratic function of speed are ***,the time-to-go prediction method is suggested for implementing the proposed *** characteristics of the proposed guidance command are analytically investigated to provide insight into the proposed *** key benefits of the proposed method lie in not producing unnecessary guidance commands near a target compared to other methods and ensuring optimality in guidance command even in the nonlinear engagement ***,numerical simulations are performed to validate the proposed method and to show our findings.

Nanostructure and corrosion behaviors of nanotube formed Ti-Zr alloy

In order to investigate the nanostructures and corrosion behaviors of Ti-Zr alloys,nanotube formed Ti-Zr(10%,20%,30% and 40% in mass fraction) alloys were prepared by arc melting and the condition of controlling nanostructure was at 1 000 ℃ for 24 h in argon atmosphere;formation of nanotubes was conducted by anodizing a Ti-Zr alloy in H3PO4 electrolyte with a small amount of fluoride ions at room *** corrosion properties of specimens were examined through potentiodynamic test(potential range of -1 500-2 000 mV) in 0.9% NaCl solution by using *** of the alloys were observed by optical microscope(OM),field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD).Diameter of nanotube does not depend on Zr content,but interspace of nanotube predominantly depends on Zr content,which confirms that ZrO2 oxides play a role to increase the interspace of nanotube formed on the surface.

Computed tomography coronary angiography after excluding myocardial infarction:high-sensitivity troponin versus risk score-guided approach

BACKGROUND:Patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in whom myocardial infarction has been ruled out are still at risk of having obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD).This rate is higher among patients with intermediate high-sensitivity troponin I (hsTnI) concentrations (5 ng/L to 99th percentile) than low concentrations (<5 ng/L).Therefore,an intermediate concentration has been suggested as a candidate for downstream investigation with computed tomography coronary angiography(CTCA).We tried to compare the HEART score-guided ***-guided approach for identifying obstructive ***:From a prospective cohort study of patients presenting to the emergency department with suspected ACS,433 patients without elevated hsTnI who also underwent CTCA were selected and *** performances of hsTnI concentration and HEART score were compared using sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value (PPV),and negative predictive value (NPV).RESULTS:Overall,120 (27.7%) patients had obstructive *** with intermediate hsTnI concentrations were more likely to have obstructive CAD than those with low hsTnI concentrations(40.0%vs.18.1%);patients with non-low-risk HEART scores (≥4 points) were also more likely to have obstructive CAD than those with low-risk scores (0 to 3 points)(41.0%vs.7.6%).The HEART score had higher sensitivity and NPV for detecting obstructive CAD in each classification than hsTnI concentration (sensitivity:89.2%vs.63.3%;NPV:92.4%vs.81.9%,respectively).CONCLUSION:After excluding myocardial infarction in patients with suspected ACS,adding the HEART score for selecting candidates for CTCA could improve patient risk stratification more accurately than relying on hsTnI concentration.

N-doped carbon-embedded TiN nanowires as a multifunctional separator for Li–S batteries with enhanced rate capability and cycle stability

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries have attracted considerable attention as next-generation energy storage devices owing to their high theoretical specific capacity and ***,the commercialization of Li-S batteries is hindered by critical issues,including the migration of the dissolved lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)from the sulfur electrode to the lithium metal anode,resulting in poor cycling ***,we report a multifunctional interlayer configured with an N-doped carbon framework and titanium nitride nanowires on a polypropylene separator(NC/TiN NWs@PP)to suppress the polysulfide shuttling ***/TiN NWs@PP can be obtained by electrospinning and the subsequent scalable solution-based vacuum *** one-dimensional structure of the TiN NWs can shorten the Li-ion diffusion distance with large electrode/electrolyte ***,the N-doped carbon framework in the NWs enables facile electron transportation and allows the suppression of the shuttle effect to improve the electrochemical reaction *** Li-S battery with a NC/TiN NWs@PP separator exhibited enhanced cycling stability and rate capability,indicating that this could be a new research direction for Li-S batteries.
