Effects of sleep bruxism on functional and occlusal parameters:a prospective controlled investigation

This study was conducted to verify the results of a preceding retrospective pilot study by means of a prospective controlled investigation including a larger sample size. Therefore, the aim of this clinical investigation was to analyze the relationship between sleep bruxism and several functional and occlusal parameters. The null hypothesis of this study was that there would be no differences among sleep bruxism subjects and non-sleep bruxism controls regarding several functional and occlusal parameters. Fifty-eight sleep bruxism subjects and 31 controls participated in this study. The diagnosis sleep bruxism was based on clinical criteria of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Sixteen functional and occlusal parameters were recorded clinically or from dental study casts. Similar to the recently published retrospective pilot study, with a mean slide of 0.77 mm （s.d., 0.69 mm） in the sleep bruxism group and a mean slide of 0.4 mm （s.d., 0.57 mm） in the control group, the evaluation of the mean comparison between the two groups demonstrated a larger slide from centric occlusion to maximum intercuspation in sleep bruxism subjects （Mann-Whitney U-test; P=O.O08）. However, following Bonferroni adjustment, none of the 16 occlusal and functional variables differed significantly between the sleep bruxism subjects and the non-sleep bruxism controls. The present study shows that the occlusal and functional parameters evaluated do not differ between sleep bruxism subjects and non-sleep bruxism subjects. However, as the literature reveals a possible association between bruxism and certain subgroups of temporomandibular disorders, it appears advisable to incorporate the individual adaptive caoacitv of the stomatognathic svstem into future investigations.

U-Pb zircon ages for the Luzhenguan Complex in northern part of the eastern Dabie orogen

The study presents U-Pb zircon ages for granitic gneiss and amphibolite from the Luzhenguan Complex (LZC) in northern part of the eastern Dabie Orogen and their geological significance. Two granitic gneisses and one amphibolite give protolith zircon U-Pb ages of 740 Ma and 725 Ma, respectively. The ages show that the LZC is composed mainly of Neoproterzoic acid and basic igneous rocks, suggesting that there is no Paleozoic active continental marginal rock association in the southern margin of the North China Block in northern part of the eastern Dabie Mountain. Based on the ages and combining the geological and geophysical analyses, the middle-low grade metamorphic rocks in the North Huiyang Belt (NHB) can be divided into three parts, which are the LZC composed mainly of the Neoproterzoic acid and basic igneous rocks, the Neoproterzoic Xianrechong Formation and Xiangyunzhai Formation and the Devonian Zhu- foan Formation and Pangjialing Formation of the Foziling Group, and the suture zone between the Yongtze Block and the North China Block is inferred to be thrust under the NHB.

RNA turnover plays critical roles in the regulation of gene expression and allows cells to respond rapidly to environmental *** bacteria,the mechanisms of RNA turnover have been extensively studied in the models Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis,but not much is known in other *** are a diverse group of photosynthetic organisms that have great potential for the sustainable production of valuable products using CO_(2)and solar energy.A better understanding of the regulation of RNA decay is important for both basic and applied studies of *** analysis shows that cyanobacteria have more than 10 ribonucleases and related proteins in common with *** and ***,and only a limited number of them have been experimentally *** this review,we summarize the current knowledge about these RNAturnover-related proteins in *** many of them are biochemically similar to their counterparts in *** and ***,they appear to have distinct cellular functions,suggesting a different mechanism of RNA turnover regulation in *** identification of new players involved in the regulation of RNA turnover and the elucidation of their biological functions are among the future challenges in this field.

The ribosome is a highly conserved molecular machine responsible for protein biosynthesis in all living *** ribosomes of all species consist of two unequal subunits,and each of them has a specialized function,peptidyl-transfer for the large subunit(50s or 60S)and mRNA decoding for the small subunit(30S or 40S).The ribosome provides a platform in the inter-subunit space between the two subunits for the binding of mRNA,tRNAs,and different translation factors,and by moving along the mRNA,it reads the genetic information stored in the mRNA codons and elongates the polypeptide chain *** its first appearance under electron microscope in the mid-1950s[1],the ribosome has been continuously studied by various structural biology *** first high-resolution structures of ribosomal subunits were determined by X-ray crystallography nearly fifty years after its discovery[2-4],which have provided essential atomic information for understanding the mechanism of protein *** the next fifteen years.

Eco-environmental surface modelling requires integration of both extrinsic and intrinsic informations

Extrinsic information,from satellite observations and the outputs of spatial models,and intrinsic information,from ground observations and spatial sampling,provide two different but complementary streams of information about the Earth’s *** extrinsic and intrinsic informations are indispensable for the modelling of the Earth’s surface systems along with an appropriate method for integrating these two kinds of *** on this idea,the fundamental theorem for Earth’s surface system modeling(FTESM)was proposed,from which several corollaries have been deduced,corresponding to spatial interpolation,spatial upscaling,spatial downscaling,data fusion and model-data assimilation,respectively(Yue et al.,2016).

Gluon number fluctuations and diffusive scaling effect

The diffusive scaling is studied based on pomeron loop equations in the fixed coupling case. At Y 〉〉 YDS, the gluon number fluctuations become important, the geometric scaling is replaced by the diffusive scaling. In the diffusive scaling regime, the deep inelastic scattering （DIS） total scattering cross-section is a function of single variable ln[1/（r^2Qs^2（z））]. We show that the deep inelastic scattering experimental data lie on a single curve, which seems to indicate the existence of the diffusive scaling phenomenology in the deep inelastic scattering.

Quasi-linear Cycle Sets and the Retraction Problem for Set-theoretic Solutions of the Quantum Yang-Baxter Equation

Cycle sets were introduced to reduce non-degenerate unitary Yang-Baxter maps to an algebraic system with a single binary operation. Every finite cycle set extends uniquely to a finite cycle set with a compatible abelian group structure. Etingof et al. introduced affine Yang-Baxter maps. These are equivalent to cycle sets with a specific abelian group structure. Abelian group structures have also been essential to get partial results for the still unsolved retraction problem. We introduce two new classes of cycle sets with an underlying abelian group structure and show that they can be transformed into each other while keeping the group structure fixed. This leads to a proper extension of the retractibility conjecture and new evidence for its truth.

The Galactic halo magnetic field revisited

Recently, Sun et al. published new Galactic 3D-models of magnetic fields in the disk and halo of the Milky Way and the distribution of cosmic-ray electron density by taking into account the thermal electron density model NE2001 by Cordes ＆ Lazio. The models successfully reproduce observed continuum and polarization all-sky maps and the distribution of rotation measures of extragalactic sources across the sky. However, the model parameters obtained for the Galactic halo, although reproducing the observations, seem physically unreasonable： the magnetic field needs to be significantly stronger in the Galactic halo than in the plane and the cosmic-ray distribution must be truncated at about 1 kpc to avoid excessive synchrotron emission from the halo. The reason for these unrealistic parameters was the low scale-height of the warm thermal gas of about 1 kpc adopted in the NE2001 model. However, this scale- height seemed reasonable and was well studied by numerous investigations. Recently, the scale-height of the warm gas in the Galaxy was revised by Gaensler et al. to about 1.8 kpc, by showing that the 1 kpc scale-height results from a systematic bias in the analysis of pulsar data. This implies a higher thermal electron density in the Galactic halo, which in turn reduces the halo magnetic field strength to account for the observed rotation measures of extragalactic sources. We slightly modified the NE2001 model according to the new scale-height and revised the Sun et al. model parameters accordingly： the strength of the regular halo magnetic field is now 2 μG or lower, and the physically unrealistic cutoff in z for the cosmic-ray electron density is removed. The simulations based on the revised 3D-models reproduce all-sky observations as before.
