rNA turnover plays critical roles in the regulation of gene expression and allows cells to respond rapidly to environmental *** bacteria,the mechanisms of rNA turnover have been extensively studied in the models Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis,but not much is known in other *** are a diverse group of photosynthetic organisms that have great potential for the sustainable production of valuable products using CO_(2)and solar energy.A better understanding of the regulation of rNA decay is important for both basic and applied studies of *** analysis shows that cyanobacteria have more than 10 ribonucleases and related proteins in common with *** and ***,and only a limited number of them have been experimentally *** this review,we summarize the current knowledge about these rNAturnover-related proteins in *** many of them are biochemically similar to their counterparts in *** and ***,they appear to have distinct cellular functions,suggesting a different mechanism of rNA turnover regulation in *** identification of new players involved in the regulation of rNA turnover and the elucidation of their biological functions are among the future challenges in this field.

Endoribonucleases govern the maturation and degradation of rNA and are indispensable in the posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression.A key endoribonuclease in Gram-negative bacteria is rNase *** ensure an appropriate supply of rNase E,some bacteria,such as Escherichia coli,feedback-regulate rNase E expression via the rne 5′-untranslated region(5′UTr)in ***,the mechanisms involved in the control of rNase E in other bacteria largely remain *** rely on solar light as an energy source for photosynthesis,despite the inherent ultraviolet(UV)*** this study,we first investigated globally the changes in gene expression in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis *** ^(6)803 after a brief exposure to *** the 407 responding genes 2 h after UV exposure was a prominent upregulation of rne mrNA ***,the enzymatic activity of rNase E rapidly increased as well,although the protein stability *** unique response was underpinned by the increased accumulation of full-length rne mrNA caused by the stabilization of its 5′UTr and suppression of premature transcriptional termination,but not by an increased transcription *** of rNA 3′ends and in vitro cleavage assays revealed that rNase E cleaves within a stretch of six consecutive uridine residues within the rne 5′UTr,indicating *** observations suggest that rNase E in cyanobacteria contributes to reshaping the transcriptome during the UV stress response and that its required activity level is secured at the rNA level despite the enhanced turnover of the protein.

Medium Frequency radio holds significance in modern society as it supports broadcasting and individual communications in the public, government, and military sectors. Enhancing the availability and quality of these communications is only possible by enhancing the understanding of medium frequency propagation. While traditional methods of radio wave propagation research can have a high material demand and cost, software defined radio presents itself as a versatile and low-cost platform for medium frequency signal reception and data acquisition. This paper details a research effort that utilizes software defined radio to help characterize medium frequency signal strength in relation to ionospheric and solar weather propagation determinants. Signal strength data from seven medium frequency stations of unique transmission locations and varying transmission powers were retrieved in 24-hour segments via a receiving loop antenna, Airspy HF+ Discovery software defined radio, and SDr Sharp software interface network. retrieved data sets were visualized and analyzed in MATLAB for the identification of signal strength trends, which were subsequently compared to historical ionospheric and space weather indices in pursuit of a quantifiable correlation between such indices and medium frequency signal strengths. The results of the investigation prove that software defined radio, when used in conjunction with a receiving antenna and data analysis program, provides a versatile mechanism for cost-efficient propagation research.

Velocity Interferometer System for Any reflector(VISAr) [Barker and Hollenbach, J. Appl. Phys. 43, 4669(1972)]is a well-known diagnostic that is employed on many shock physics and pulsed-power experiments. With the VISAr diagnostic, the velocity on the surface of any metal flyer can be found. For most experiments employing VISAr, either a kinetic pressure [Grady, Mech. Mater. 29, 181(1998)] or a magnetic pressure [Lemke et al., Intl J. Impact Eng. 38,480(2011)] drives the motion of the flyer. Moreover, reliable prediction of the time-dependent pressure is often a critical component to understanding the physics of these experiments. Although VISAr can provide a precise measurement of a flyer's surface velocity, the real challenge of this diagnostic implementation is using this velocity to unfold the timedependent pressure. The purpose of this paper is to elucidate a new method for quickly and reliably unfolding VISAr data.

This article proposes a new way of viewing republican-era warlords. Through an examination of the life ofLi Dequan, the second wife of warlord Feng Yuxiang, it displaces Feng from his typical military and political context, scrutinizing instead the ways that Feng and Li interwove the private intimacies of love, marriage, and family life into their public and political lives. In the republic, Feng and Li, like many prominent figures of the time, shared elements of their private lives with journalists and, through them, a broader reading public, posing for photographs with their children on their way to school and inviting reporters to family events. Feng and Li utilized this newfound intimacy between public and political leaders to cultivate public sympathy and support. By the early PrC, Li--following Feng＇s sudden 1948 death--was named the first Minister of Health of the People＇s republic of China and her roles as wife and romantic object fell away. Instead, she focused on mothering the nation. By the late twentieth century, emphasis on the Li and Feng romance reappeared in writings about the couple, and while these narratives drew on the republican-era stories, it was made to seem that Li＇s feminism rather than Feng＇s modernity had facilitated their true love. Though the warlords have often been seen as destructive, exploring Feng＇s and Li＇s lives demonstrates that factional militarists and their families contributed to a new political culture grounded in a gendered national narrative that merewrite family and nation.
