A preliminary validation of the Brief COPE instrument for assessing coping strategies among people living with HIV in China

Background:The Brief COPE instrument has been utilized to conduct research on various populations,including people living with HIV(PLWH).However,the questionnaire constructs when applied to PLWH have not been subjected to thorough factor ***:A total of 258 PLWH were recruited from two provinces of *** answered questions involving the scales of three instruments:the Brief COPE,the Perceived Social Support Scale,and the Perceived Discrimination Scale for *** factor analysis(CFA)and exploratory factor analysis(EFA)were ***:The CFA found a poor goodness of fit to the *** subsequent EFA identified six preliminary factors,forming subscales with Cronbach’s alphas,which ranged from 0.61 to *** correlation coefficients between the subscales and measures of perceived social support and perceived discrimination were reported,giving preliminary support to the validity of the new empirical factor ***:This study showed that the original factor structure of the Brief COPE instrument,when applied to PLWH in China,did not fit the ***,the Brief COPE should be applied to various populations and cultures with *** new factor structure established by the EFA is only preliminary and requires further validation.

Misperceptions among patients with chronic hepatitis B in Singapore

AIM： To identify the misperceptions among CHB patients,as well as to determine the factors associated with ***： A telephone interview was conducted on 292 adult CHB patients, who earlier responded to an advertisement for free screening. The questionnaire included items about socio-demographic factors and a24-item quiz on knowledge of general aspects,transmission, and management of HBV ***： The mean knowledge score on HBV was 10.4/14. Common misperceptions included availability of treatment for HBV infection and early liver cancer, as well as on transmission. Having completed tertiary education was the only independent factor associated with a high knowledge score, after controlling other demographic ***： More educational efforts should be focused on patients＇ misperceptions and target the less educated HBV carriers.

Background The global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has caused many negative effects on physical and mental health of patients who have survived *** from some long-lasting physical sequelae,those COVID-19 survivors are also suffering stigma and discrimination at different levels around the *** current study aims to assess the role resilience played in stigma and mental disorders among COVID-19 *** The cross-sectional study was carried out among former COVID-19 patients in Jianghan District(Wuhan,China)from June 10 to July 25,*** demographic questions,the Impact of Events Scale-Revised,the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire,the Patient Health Questionnaire,the Resilience Style Questionnaire and the Short Version of COVID-19 Stigma Scale of 12 items were used to collect relevant information of the *** analyses,Pearson correlation analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to make data description and *** A total of 1541 out of 1601 COVID-19 survivors(887 females and 654 males)were included in the *** stigma of those COVID-19 survivors correlates significantly with anxiety(r=0.335,P<0.001),depression(r=0.325,P<0.001)and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)(r=0.384,P<0.001).It has a direct effect on COVID-19 survivors’anxiety(β=0.326,P<0.001),depression(β=0.314,P<0.001),PTSD(β=0.385,P<0.001)and their resilience(β=−0.114,P<0.01).Resilience partially mediated the association between perceived stigma and anxiety(β=0.020,P<0.01),depression(β=0.020,P<0.01),and PTSD(β=0.014,P<0.01)among COVID-19 *** Stigma has a significant negative impact on mental health,while resilience plays a mediator role in the relationship between stigma and mental health among COVID-19 *** on our study,we suggested that when designing psychological interventions for COVID-19 survivors,consideration should be taken into account to reduce stigma and improve resilience.

Supportive care needs and health-related quality of life among Chinese lung cancer survivors

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the supportive care needs and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of lung cancer survivors, and to identify the association between patient characteristics, HRQoL and supportive care needs. Method: This was a sub-study of a larger scale survey of cancer survivors’ supportive care needs. A total of 48 lung cancer survivors were recruited from a regional teaching hospital, and a three-part structured questionnaire was used to collect 1) socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, 2) supportive care needs and 3) health-related quality of life data. Results: The three most commonly reported unmet needs were all in the health-system information domain: 1) being informed about your results as soon as possible (58%), 2) being informed about cancer which is under control or diminishing (50%), and 3) being informed about things you can do to help yourself get well (46%). The second most common unmet need domain was access to healthcare and ancillary support services. The survivors generally reported satisfactory HRQoL. However, household income and unmet physical and psychological needs were independently associated with HRQoL among these survivors. Conclusion: The high unmet needs in the health-system information area call for a review of the content and amount of information provided to lung cancer survivors. In addition, more attention should be given to lung cancer survivors with low incomes but high physical and psychological unmet needs, who require appropriate follow-up and long-term care of a physical, social and psychological kind.
