Nitrogen(N)is an essential nutrient for plants,animals and humans,being a key element in *** increases of global population thus require more N inputs to soil to improve food ***,N losses induced environmental problems,due to inefficient N use by crops and animals,are threatening our environment via soil acidification,eutrophication and water pollution,air pollution and biodiversity loss/health impacts and by greenhouse gas emissions and climate ***,humans are facing a huge challenge on how to balance the N requirement(to meet the food demand)and the N restriction(to avoid environmental damage).This includes the need for improving the N use efficiency(NUE),as one pillar to realize green *** special issue summarizes recent progress on N research at different scales:from soil to plant and to the environment,and includes 15 review and research articles,distinguishing four topics,related to(1)N use and turnover(3 articles),(2)N management(4 articles),(3)N impacts on environment and climate(5 articles),and(4)mitigation approaches to improve NUE and reduce N losses(3 articles).

Early fault diagnosis of bearings is crucial for ensuring safe and reliable *** neural networks(CNNs)have achieved significant breakthroughs in machinery fault ***,complex and varying working conditions can lead to inter-class similarity and intra-class variability in datasets,making it more challenging for CNNs to learn discriminative ***,CNNs are often considered“black boxes”and lack sufficient interpretability in the fault diagnosis *** address these issues,this paper introduces a residual mixed domain attention CNN method,referred to as *** method comprises multiple residual mixed domain attention modules(RMAMs),each employing one attention mechanism to emphasize meaningful features in both time and channel *** significantly enhances the network’s ability to learn fault-related ***,we conduct an in-depth analysis of the inherent feature learning mechanism of the attention module RMAM to improve the interpretability of CNNs in fault diagnosis *** conducted on two datasets—a high-speed aeronautical bearing dataset and a motor bearing dataset—demonstrate that the RMA-CNN achieves remarkable results in diagnostic tasks.

We have described the synthesis of a series of poly(aryl ether) dendrimers with telluride in the core and oligo(ethylene oxide) chains at the pe- riphery which act as glutathione peroxidase (GPx) mimics. These series of compounds were well characterized by H-NMR, 1 13C-NMR and ESI-MS. Using different ROOH (H2O2, cumene hydroperoxide) for testing the antioxidizing properties of these com- pounds, we have found that from generation 0 to 2, the activity of the dendritic GPx mimics first de- creased and then increased. This can be explained on the basis of a greater steric hindrance, going from generation 0 to 1, and stronger binding interactions going from generation 1 to 2. In other words, there exists a balance between binding interactions and steric hindrance that may optimize the GPx activity.

Plants are able to influence their growing environment by changing biotic and abiotic soil *** soil conditions in turn can influence plant growth conditions,which is called plant–soil ***–soil feedback is known to be operative in a wide variety of ecosystems ranging from temperate grasslands to tropical rain ***,little is known about how it operates in arid *** examined the role of plant–soil feedbacks on tree seedling growth in relation to water availability as occurring in arid ecosystems along the west coast of South *** In a two-phased greenhouse experiment,we compared plant–soil feedback effects under three water levels(no water,10%gravimetric moisture and 15%gravimetric moisture).We used sterilized soil inoculated with soil collected from northwest Peru(Prosopis pallida forests)and from two sites in north-central Chile(Prosopis chilensis forest and scrublands without ***).Important Findings Plant–soil feedbacks differed between plant species and soil origins,but water availability did not influence the feedback ***–soil feedbacks differed in direction and strength in the three soil origins ***–soil feedbacks of plants grown in Peruvian forest soil were negative for leaf biomass and positive for root *** contrast,feedbacks were neutral for plants growing in Chilean scrubland soil and positive for leaf biomass for those growing in Chilean forest *** results show that under arid conditions,effects of plant–soil feedback depend upon ***,the results suggest that plant–soil feedback can influence trade-offs between root growth and leaf biomass investment and as such that feedback interactions between plants and soil biota can make plants either more tolerant or vulnerable to *** on dissecting plant–soil feedbacks into aboveground and belowground tissue responses,we conclude that plant–soil feedback can enhance plant colonization in some arid eco

This study assessed the performance and diversity of microbial communities in multi-stage sub-surface flow constructed wetland systems（CWs）. Our aim was to assess the impact of configuration on treatment performance and microbial diversity in the systems. Results indicate that at loading rates up to 100 g BOD5/（m2·day）, similar treatment performances can be achieved using either a 3 or 4 stage configuration. In the case of phosphorus（P）, the impact of configuration was less obvious and a minimum of 80% P removal can be expected for loadings up to 10 g P/（m2·day） based on the performance results obtained within the first16 months of operation. Microbial analysis showed an increased bacterial diversity in stage four compared to the first stage. These results indicate that the design and configuration of multi-stage constructed wetland systems may have an impact on the treatment performance and the composition of the microbial community in the systems, and such knowledge can be used to improve their design and performance.
