CDC42 controls intestinal epithelial(IEC)stem cell(IESC)*** aberrant CDC42 initiates intestinal inflammation or neoplasia is *** utilized models of inflam-matory bowel diseases(IBD),colorectal cancer,aging,and IESC injury to determine the loss of intestinal Cdc42 upon inflammation and *** specimens were collected to determine the levels of CDC42 in IBD or colorectal ***42 floxed mice were crossed with Villin-Cre,Villin-CreERT2 and/or Lgr5-eGFP-IRES-CreERT2,or Bmi1-CreERT2 mice to generate Cdc42 deficient ***,colitis,aging,and intestinal organoid were used to evaluate CDC42 upon mucosal inflammation,IESC/progenitor regenerative capacity,and IEC *** studies revealed that increased CDC42 in colorectal cancer correlated with lower survival;in contrast,lower levels of CDC42 were found in the inflamed IBD *** Cdc42 depletion significantly reduced Lgr5+IEsCs,increased progenitors'hyperplasia,and induced mucosal inflammation,which led to crypt *** Cdc42 depletion markedly enhanced irra-diation-or chemical-induced *** or inhibition of Cdc42 reduced colonic Lgr5+IESC *** conclusion,depletion of Cdc42 reduces the IESC regeneration and IEC repair,leading to prolonged mucosal *** monogenic loss of Cdc42 in-duces mucosal inflammation,which could result in intestinal neoplasia in the context of aging.

Targeting AmPKa1 Gene in PC3 Cells by Triphenylmethanol Derivatives

Epidemiological studies indicate that treatment with metformin, an AmP-activated protein kinase (AmPK) activator, reduces the incidence of cancers. Activation of AmPK has also been reported to oppose tumor progression in diverse types of cancers and offers promising cancer therapy. Furthermore, AmPK is a primary regulator of energy metabolism and has also been implicated in cell cycle progression, angiogenesis, cell transformation, migration, and cancer. We have recently synthesized novel flavonoids, namely, triphenylmethanol derivatives (TPms), but the effectiveness of the TPms on the activity of AmPK remains unclear. We hypothesized that the novel TPms would inhibit cancer cell proliferation through the activation of AmPK isoforms in cells. The effects of TPms on prostate cells (PC-3) were investigated. Cells were exposed to TPms for either 12 or 24 hr. at the respective doses of 0, 25, 50 100, and 200 µm based on the cell viability studies by the (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a tetrazole) (mTT) assay. The results indicate that cells exposed to the respective doses of TPms increased both phospho- and total-AmPKα1 in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The effects of the increases for the phospho- and total-AmPKα in cells were greater for the 24-hr than the 12-hr. incubation. Further studies are currently going on to elucidate the specificities of the said insults in increasing the phospho- and total-AmPKα activities and for the other respective isoforms.

most reinforced concrete structures in seaside locations suffer from corrosion damage to the reinforcement, limiting their durability and necessitating costly repairs. To improve their performance and durability, we have investigated in this paper Aloe vera extracts as a green corrosion inhibitor for reinforcing steel in NaCl environments. Using electrochemical methods (zero-intensity chronopotentiometry, Tafel lines and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), this experimental work investigated the effect of these Aloe vera (AV) extracts on corrosion inhibition of concrete reinforcing bar (HA, diameter 12mm) immersed in a 0.5m NaCl solution. The results show that Aloe vera extracts have an average corrosion-inhibiting efficacy of around 86% at an optimum concentration of 20%.

The durability of reinforced concrete structures is greatly influenced by the corrosion of the reinforcement. In addition to air pollution related to the repair of corroded structures, chloride ions are the main factors of corrosion of reinforced concrete structures. This study aims to valorize a clay inhibitor against reinforcement corrosion in reinforced concrete. This clay (Attapulgite) was incorporated into reinforced concretes at different percentages of substitution of calcined attapulgite (0%, 5% and 10%) to cement in the formulation. The corrosion inhibitory power of attapulgite is evaluated in reinforced concretes subjected to the action of chloride ions at different intervals in the NaCl solution (1 day, 21 days and 45 days) by electrochemical methods (zero current chronopotentiometry, polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy). This study showed that in the presence of chloride ions, the composition based on 10% attapulgite has an appreciable inhibitory effect with an average inhibitory efficiency of 82%.

To the Editor:Recent single subcortical infarction(RSSI),formerly known as lacunar stroke,is a neurological syndrome that occurs when a small perforating artery in the brain becomes blocked,resulting in ischemia and neurological impairment.[1]Radiological indicators of cerebral small vessel disease(SVD),such as lacunes and white matter hyperintensity(WmH),have gained increasing attention because of their role in cognitive impairment and dementia.[1]The correlation among radiological indicators enables the investigation of their impact on both structural and functional damage to the brain.

The Aerosol-monsoon Climate System of Asia:A New Paradigm

This commentary is based on a series of recent lectures on aerosol-monsoon interactions I gave at the Beijing Normal University in August 2015. A main theme of the lectures is on a new paradigm of ＂An Aerosol-monsoon-Climate-System＂, which posits that aerosol, like rainfall, cloud, and wind, is an integral component of the monsoon climate system, influencing monsoon weather and climate on m1 timescales. Here, salient issues discussed in my lectures and my personal perspective regarding interactions between atmospheric dynamics and aerosols from both natural and anthropogenic sources are summarized. my hope is that under this new paradigm, we can break down traditional disciplinary barriers, advance a deeper understanding of weather and climate in monsoon regions, as well as entrain a new generation of geoscientists to strive for a sustainable future for one of the most complex and challenging human-natural climate sub-system of the earth.

BACKGROUND Paracoccidioidomycosis(PCm)may involve the hepatic pedicle and peripan creatic lymph nodes,cause damage to the bile duct and manifest,exceptionally,in combination with extrahepatic cholestasis(EHC),making investigation and treatment *** To investigate the management of patients with visceral PCm admitted with *** All patients diagnosed with PCm treated in a public,tertiary teaching hospital between 1982 and 2020 were retrospectively *** also identified with EHC were allocated to two groups according to the treatment approach for the purpose of comparing clinical,laboratory,and imaging findings,resources used for etiological diagnosis,treatment results,and *** analyses were performed using the linear mixed-effects model(random and fixed effects),which was adjusted using the PROC mIXED procedure of the SAS®9.0 software,and Fisher’s exact *** Of 1645 patients diagnosed with PCm,40(2.4%)had *** these,20(50.0%)lived in the rural area and 29(72.5%)were men,with a mean age of 27.1 years(3-65 years).Jaundice as first symptom and weight loss of at least 10 kg were observed in 16 patients(40.0%),and a mass in the head of the pancreas was observed in 8(20.0%).The etiological diagnosis was made by tissue collection during surgery in 4 cases(10.0%)and by endoscopic methods in 3 cases(7.5%).Twenty-seven patients(67.5%)received drug treatment alone(Group 1),whereas 13(32.5%)underwent endoscopic and/or surgical procedures in combination with drug treatment(Group 2).EHC was significantly reduced in both groups(40.7% in Group 1,with a mean time of 3 months;and 38.4% in Group 2,with a mean time of 7.5 months),with no statistically significant difference between *** recurrence rates,associated mainly with treatment nonadherence,were similar in both groups:37% in Group 1 and 15.4% in Group *** mortality rate was 18.5% in Group 1 and 23% in Group 2,with survival estimates of 71.3% and 72.5%,respectively,with

Diastasis of the symphysis pubis is a rare postpartum complication. We report two cases of symphysis diastasis after dystocic delivery, in two patients who presented in the postpartum period with functional impotence, pubalgia and acute urine retention. A frontal radiograph of the pelvis confirmed the diagnosis, showing a symphyseal separation of 12 mm and 18 mm. In our case, management was mainly medical, with a favorable clinical outcome.
