L13a-dependent translational control in macrophages imits the pathogenesis of colitis

Sustained inflammation from infiltrated immune cells plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis （UC）. Previously, we established the role of ribosomal protein L13a in the regulation of an inflammation-responsive post-transcriptional operon in myeloid cells. However, the role of this protein as a molecular cue to control the severity of colitis is not known. Here, we examined whether L13a-dependent translational control in macrophages could serve as an endogenous defense against colitis. The administration of dextran sodium sulfate induced experimental colitis in myeloid-specific L13a-knockout （KO） and control mice. Pathological scoring and injury to the colon mucosa evaluated the severity of colitis. The steady-state levels of several pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines were determined through ELISA and polyribosome profile analysis. Rapid weight loss, severe rectal bleeding, shortening of the colon, and significantly reduced survival rate were observed in the KO mice. Histopathological analysis of the colons of KO mice showed a severe disruption of epithelial crypts with immune cell infiltrates. Elevated levels of several inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and abrogation of their naturally imposed translational silencing were observed in the colons of the KO mice. Higher serum levels of several pro-inflammatory cytokines and the release of gut bacteria and endotoxins into the blood streams of KO mice were detected, suggesting the amplification of the inflammatory response to septicemia. Taken together, these results reveal an essential role for L13a in the endogenous protection against UC and demonstrate the potential for new therapeutic opportunities through the deliberate promotion of this mechanism.

Impaired eye tracking is associated with symptom severity but not dynamic postural control in adolescents following concussion

Purpose:The purpose of the study was to(1)examine the relationship between self-reported symptoms and concussion-related eye tracking impairments,and(2)compare gait performance between(a)adolescents with a concussion who have normal eye tracking,(b)adolescents with a concussion who have abnormal eye tracking,and(c)healthy ***:A total of 30 concussed participants(age:14.4±2.2 years,mean±SD,50%female)and 30 controls(age:14.2±2.2 years,47%female)completed eye tracking and gait *** BOX score is a metric of pupillary disconjugacy,with scoresmal and≥10 *** were collected using the Post-Concussion Symptom Scale(PCSS),and gait speed was measured with triaxial inertial measurement *** conducted a linear regression to examine the relationship between PCSS and BOX scores and a two-way mixed effects analysis of variance to examine the effect of group(abnormal BOX,normal BOX,and healthy control)on single-and dual-task gait ***:There was a significant association between total PCSS score and BOX score in the concussion group(β=0.16,p=0.004,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.06‒0.27),but not in the control group(β=0.21,p=0.08,95%CI:0.03 to 0.45).There were no significant associations between PCSS symptom profiles and BOX scores in the concussion or control *** were also no significant differences in singletask(Abnormal:1.00±0.14 m/s;Normal:1.11§0.21 m/s;Healthy:1.14±0.18 m/s;p=0.08)or dual-task(Abnormal:0.77±0.15 m/s;Normal:0.84±0.21 m/s;Healthy:0.90±0.18 m/s;p=0.16)gait ***:The concussed group with impaired eye tracking reported higher total symptom severity,as well as worse symptom severity across the 5 PCSS symptom domain ***,eye tracking deficits did not appear to be driven by any particular symptom *** not statistically significant,the slower gait speeds in those with abnormal BOX scores may still be clinically relevant since gait-related impairments may persis

A Green, One-Pot Route to the Biphenyldicarboxylic Acids: Useful Intermediates in Polymer Synthesis

Isomeric biphenyldicarboxylic acids have been prepared from halobenzoic acids and aryl boronic acids using an inverse biphasic modification of the Suzuki coupling reaction. In this modification of the Suzuki coupling reaction, both reactants and products are contained in the aqueous phase, with palladium catalyst contained in the organic phase. A phase transfer catalyst is used to contact reactants and catalyst. multiple cycles, in which the catalyst/organic solvent is contacted with fresh aqueous reactants, generating products with no loss of efficiency, are demonstrated. We believe that this is the first demonstration of Suzuki coupling to produce biphenyldicarboxylic acids, in this case useful as monomers for the production of condensation polymers.

Advanced 1.5-μm emitting materials that can be used to fabricate electrically driven light-emitting devices have the potential for developing cost-effective light sources for integrated silicon *** erbium(Er^(3+))in organic materials can give bright 1.5-μm luminescence and provide a route for realizing 1.5-μm organic light emitting diodes(OLEDs).However,the Er3+electroluminescence(EL)intensity needs to be further improved for device ***,an efficient 1.5-μm OLED made from a sensitized organic Er3+co-doped system is realized,where a“traditional”organic phosphorescent molecule with minimal triplet–triplet annihilation is used as a chromophore *** chromophore provides efficient sensitization to a co-doped organic Er^(3+) complex with a perfluorinatedligand *** large volume can protect the Er^(3+) 1.5-μm luminescence from vibrational *** average lifetime of the sensitized Er^(3+) 1.5-μm luminescence reaches ~0.86 ms,with a lifetime component of 2.65 ms,which is by far the longest Er^(3+) lifetime in a hydrogen-abundant organic environment and can even compete with that obtained in the fully fluorinated organic Er^(3+) *** optimal sensitization enhances the Er^(3+) luminescence by a factor of 1600 even with a high concentration of the phosphorescent molecule,and bright 1.5-μm OLEDs are obtained.

AIm:To study if impaired renal function is associated with increased risk of peri-infarct heart failure (HF) in patients with preserved ejection fraction (EF).mETHODS:Patients with occluded infarct-related arteries (IRAs) between 1 to 28 d after myocardial infarction (mI) were grouped into chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).Rates of early post-mI HF were compared among eGFR *** regression was used to explore independent predictors of ***:Reduced eGFR was present in 71.1% of 2160 patients,with significant renal impairment (eGFR mL/min every 1.73 m2) in 14.8%.The prevalence of HF was higher with worsening renal function:15.5%,17.8% and 29.4% in patients with CKD stages 1,2 and 3 or 4,respectively (P mall absolute difference in mean EF across eGFR groups:48.2 ± 10.0,47.9 ± 11.3 and 46.2 ± 12.1,respectively (P=0.02).The prevalence of HF was again higher with worsening renal function among patients with preserved EF:10.1%,13.6% and 23.6% (P mong patients with depressed EF:27.1%,26.2% and 37.9% (P= 0.071).moreover,eGFR was an independent correlate of HF in patients with preserved EF (P=0.003) but not in patients with depressed EF (P=0.181).CONCLUSION:A significant proportion of post-mI patients with occluded IRAs have impaired renal *** renal function was associated with an increased rate of early post-mI HF,the association being strongest in patients with preserved *** findings have implications for management of peri-infarct HF.

海浪不仅决定着海洋表面的粗糙度,由热带气旋引起的海浪,还通过其发展演化控制着大部分的海气之间的动量和能量传递。本文采用热带气旋观测数据IBTrACS和海浪模式WW iii的模拟结果探究了热带气旋下海浪对大气向海洋输入的动量和能量的影响。结果发现,近30 a热带气旋的强度约每10 a增加1 m/s,但移速没有明显变化。热带气旋的强度越大,从大气输入到海浪和从海浪输入到海流中的动量之差和能量之差也越大。由于热带气旋的风场和海浪场都有较强的不对称性,海气动量差和能量差也表现出非均匀分布:动量差较大的区域在热带气旋移动方向的后方,能量差的最大值则分布在右后象限,且二者均为左前方比较小。逆波龄与动量差和能量差呈高度正相关,相关系数约为0.95,说明波越年轻吸收的动量和能量越多。气旋移速越快逆波龄越大,且热带气旋移动速度与动量差和能量差呈正相关,相关系数在0.8以上。因此,海浪影响着大气向海洋输入的动量和能量的分布和大小,在以后关于海洋边界动力学和热力学的研究中,考虑海浪的演化可能会使结果更加准确。
