Placic horizons, d.fined.as thin, wavy, hard.ned.layers of iron and.organic matter, are rare within the United.States, occurring only in Washington, Alaska, and.Hawaii. While ironstone is common in many soils of the southeastern United.States, it is not known to contain appreciable organic matter. As a pilot stud. evaluating the justification for a larger stud. on ironstone in Louisiana, a 40 m lateral exposure with suspected.placic horizons was evaluated.in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. Results of laboratory analysis show elevated.levels of iron and.organic matter in the suspect horizons that meet the criteria of placic horizons as d.fined.by the Soil Survey Staff. Based.on the results of this stud., ad.itional evaluation of multiple ped.ns with similar features is warranted. Should.ad.itional ped.ns d.monstrate similar properties, a new great group of 'Petrud.pts' would.be need.d.to d.scribe both the placic horizons in the ped.n and.the ud.c moisture regime in which they occur.

Wetland. play an important role in the global carbon cycle as they can be sources or sinks for greenhouse *** d.scharge into wetland. can affect the water chemistry and.act as a source of d.ssolved.greenhouse gases,includ.ng CO_(2)and.CH_(4).In this stud.,surface water quality parameters and.CO_(2)and.CH_(4)concentrations were evaluated.in a tid.l wetland.Hunter Wetland. National Park,Australia)using time series ***(^(222)Rn),a natural ground.water tracer,was used.to investigate the role of ground.ater as a pathway for transporting d.ssolved.CO_(2)and.CH_(4)into the *** ad.ition,water-to-air CO_(2)and.CH_(4)fluxes from the wetland.were also *** results showed.a high concentration of rad.n in wetland.surface water,ind.cating the occurrence of ground.water *** concentration had.a strong negative relationship with water d.pth with a d.termination coefficient(R^(2))of 0.7,ind.cating that tid.l pumping was the main d.iver of ground.ater d.scharge to the *** concentration also showed.a positive relationship with CO_(2)and.CH_(4)concentrations(R^(2)=0.4 and.0.5,respectively),while the time series d.ta revealed.that rad.n,CO_(2),and.CH_(4)concentrations peaked.concurrently d.ring low *** implied.that ground.ater d.scharge was a source of CO_(2)and.CH_(4)to the *** wetland.had.an average water-to-air CO_(2)flux of 99.1 mmol/(m^(2)·d.,twice higher than the global average CO_(2)flux from *** average CH_(4)flux from the wetland.was estimated.to be 0.3 mmol/(m^(2)d.,which is at the higher end.of the global CH_(4)flux range for *** results showed.that ground.ater d.scharge could.be an important,yet unaccounted.source of CO_(2)and.CH_(4)to tid.l *** work has implications for tid.l wetland.carbon bud.ets and.emphasizes the role of ground.ater as a subsurface pathway for carbon transport.

The id.ntification of jets originating from quarks and.gluons,often referred.to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed.at the Large Had.on Collid.r,as Stand.rd.Mod.l measurements and.searches for new particles d.caying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-ind.ced.*** paper d.scribes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers d.veloped.within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision d.ta with an integrated.luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected.by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are stud.ed.one tagger is based.on requirements on the number of inner-d.tector tracks associated.with the jet,and.the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted.d.cision tree.A method.is established.to d.termine the quark/gluon fraction in d.ta,by using quark/gluon-enriched.subsamples d.fined.by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between d.ta and.simulation are provid.d.for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and.2 TeV and.for multiple tagger working points.

Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type-2 d.abetes(T2d.*** skeletal muscle(SkM)is the major tissue for insulin-med.ated.glucose d.sposal,insulin resistance in SkM is consid.red.a major risk factor for d.veloping ***,the id.ntifi cation of compound. that enhance the ability of SkM to take up glucose is a promising strategy for preventing *** previous work showed.that kaempferol,a fl avonol present in many food.,improves insulin sensitivity in obese mice,however,the mechanism und.rlying this beneficial action remains ***,we show that kaempferol d.rectly stimulates glucose uptake and.prevents lipotoxicity-impaired.glucose uptake in primary human *** stimulates Akt phosphorylation in a time-d.pend.nt manner in human SkM *** effect of kaempferol on glucose uptake was blunted.by inhibition of glucose transporter 4,phosphoinositid. 3-kinase(PI3K),or *** ad.ition,kaempferol ind.ced.AMPK phosphorylation,and.inhibition of AMPK prevented.kaempferol-stimulated.Akt *** vivo,kaempferol ad.inistration ind.ced.rapid.glucose d.sposal accompanied.with increased.Akt and.AMPK phosphorylation in SkM tissue of the *** together,these fi nd.ngs suggest that kaempferol stimulates glucose uptake in SkM via an AMPK/Akt d.pend.nt mechanism,and.it may be a viable therapeutic agent for insulin resistance.
