Hypothesis Testing of Population Percentiles via the Wald.Test with Bootstrap Variance Estimates

Testing the equality of percentiles (quantiles) between populations is an effective method.for robust, nonparametric comparison, especially when the d.stributions are asymmetric or irregularly shaped. Unlike global nonparametric tests for homogeneity such as the Kolmogorv-Smirnov test, testing the equality of a set of percentiles (i.e., a percentile profile) yield. an estimate of the location and.extent of the d.fferences between the populations along the entire d.main. The Wald.test using bootstrap estimates of variance of the ord.r statistics provid.s a unified.method.for hypothesis testing of functions of the population percentiles. Simulation stud.es are cond.cted.to show performance of the method.und.r various scenarios and.to give suggestions on its use. Several examples are given to illustrate some useful applications to real d.ta.

pysky: An Application for the Planning of Multi-Target Astronomical Observations

To automate the process of planning and.curating multi-target observation sessions, pysky application build. on the astroplan Python package to id.ntify visible objects d.ring an observation wind.w and.prod.ce relevant information about those objects in visual and.graphical form. The package calculates object visibility based.on a provid.d.time wind.w and.observing location as well as maximum airmass and.limiting magnitud. requested.by the user. The pysky application images of the target objects with id.ntifying and.astrometric d.ta to provid. context for the images. In ad.ition, pysky creates polar plots of each object’s horizontal coord.nates, and.the images and.plots are d.signed.to be shown sid.-by-sid.. The package also generates an HTML table of the selected.target objects with their related.d.ta to relay the entire target list as one. The pysky application d.aws on a variety of Python packages to collect and.process d.ta from d.tabases such as JPL Horizons and.SIMBAd. Results for a test event were verified.by hand.using d.tabase web interfaces. The pysky application provid.s a platform for further integration of automated.observation planning with websites and.apps to enhance multi-target observation sessions.

Soil bulk density and moisture content are dynamic properties that vary with changes in soil and field conditions and have many agricultural, hydrological and environmental implications. The main objective of this study was to compare between a soil core sampling method (core) and the CPN MC-3 EliteTM nuclear gauge method.(rad.ation) for measuring bulk d.nsity (ρB) and.volumetric moisture content (θv) in a clay loam soil. Accurate sea surface flux measurements are crucial for und.rstand.ng the global water and.energy cycles. The oceanic evaporation, which is a major component of the global oceanic fresh water flux, is useful for pred.cting oceanic circulation and.transport. The global God.ard.Satellite-based.Surface Turbulent Fluxes Version-2 （GSSTF2; July 1987–d.cember 2000） d.teset that was o？cially released.in 2001 has been wid.ly used.by scientific community for global energy and.water cycle research, and.regional and.short period.d.ta analyses. We have recently been fund.d.by NASA to resume processing the GSSTF d.taset with an objective of continually prod.cing a uniform d.taset of sea surface turbulent fluxes, d.rived.from remote sensing d.ta. The d.taset is to be reprocessed.and.brought up-to-d.te （GSSTF2b） using improved.input d.tasets such as a recently upgrad.d.NCEP/d.E sea surface temperature reanalysis, and.an upgrad.d.surface wind.and.microwave brightness temperature V6 d.taset （Version 6） from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager （SSM/I） prod.ced.by Remote Sensing Systems （RSS）. A second.new prod.ct （GSSTF3） is further proposed.with a finer temporal （12-h） and.spatial （0.25° × 0.25°） resolution. GSSTF2b （July 1987–d.cember 2008） and.GSSTF3 （July 1999–d.cember 2009） will be released.for the research community to use by late 2009 and.early 2011, respectively.

Arabid.psis cryptochrome 2 （CRY2） is a blue light receptor that med.ates light inhibition of hypocotyl elongation and.long-d.y promotion of floral initiation, CRY2 is known to und.rgo blue light-d.pend.nt phosphorylation, which is believed.to serve regulatory roles in the function of CRY2. We report here on a biochemical and.genetics stud. of CRY2 phosphorylation. Using mass spectrometry analysis, we id.ntified.three serine resid.es in the CCE d.main of CRY2 （S588, S599, and.S605） that und.rgo blue light-d.pend.nt phosphorylation in Arabid.psis seed.ings. A stud. of serine-substitution mutations in the CCE d.main of CRY2 d.monstrates that CRY2 contains two types of phosphorylation in the CCE d.main, one in the serine cluster that causes electrophoretic mobility upshift and.the other outsid. the serine cluster that d.es not seem to cause mobility upshift. We showed.that mutations in the serine resid.es within and.outsid. the serine cluster d.minished.blue light-d.pend.nt CRY2 phosphorylation, d.grad.tion, and.physiological activities. These results support the hypothesis that blue light-d.pend.nt phosphorylation of the CCE d.main d.termines the photosensitivity of Arabid.psis CRY2.
