Transition metal dichalcogenide(TmD)monolayers attract great attention due to their specific structural,electronic and mechanical *** formation of their lateral heterostructures allows a new degree of flexibility in engineering electronic and optoelectronic ***,the mechanical properties of the lateral heterostructures are rarely *** this study,a comparative investigation on the mechanical characteristics of 1H,IT'and 1H/1T'heterostructure phases of different TmD monolayers including molybdenum disulfide(m0S_(2))molybdenum diselenide(moSe_(2)),Tungsten disulfide(WS_(2)),and Tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2))was conducted by means of density functional theory(DFT)*** results indicate that the impact of the lateral heterostructures has a relatively weak mechanical strength for all the TmD *** significant correlation bet ween the mechanical properties of the TmD monolayers and their structural phases can be used to tune their stiffness of the *** findings,therefore,suggest a novel strategy to manipulate the mechanical characteristics of TmDs by engineering their structural phases for their practical applications.

models for Improving Software System Size Estimates during Development

This paper addresses the challenge of estimating eventual software system size during a development project. The ap-proach is to build a family of estimation models that use information about architectural design characteristics of the evolving software product as leading indicators of system size. Four models were developed to provide an increasingly accurate size estimate throughout the design process. multivariate regression analyses were conducted using 21 Ada subsystems, totaling 183,000 lines of code. The models explain from 47% of the variation in delivered software size early in the design phase, to 89% late in the design phase.

Granular activated carbons from palm nut shells for gold di-cyanide adsorption

Granular activated carbons were produced from palm nut shells by physical activation with steam. The proximate analysis of palm nut shells was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, and the adsorption capacity of the activated carbons, produced as a result of shell pyrolysis at 600℃ followed by steam activation at 900℃ in varying activation times, was evaluated using nitrogen adsorption at 77 K. Applicability of the activated carbons for gold dicyanide adsorption was also investigated. Increasing the activation hold time with the attendant increase in the degree of carbon burn-off results in a progressive increase in the surface area of the activated carbons, reaching a value of 903.1 m2/g after activation for 6 h. The volumes of total pores, mieropores, and mesopores in the activated carbons also increase progressively with the increasing degree of carbon burn-off, resulting from increasing the activation hold time. The gold di-cyanide adsorption of the activated carbons increases with the rise of pore volume of the activated carbons. The gold di-cyanide adsorption of palm nut shell activated carbon obtained after 6-h activation at 900℃ is superior to that of a commercial activated carbon used for gold di-cyanide adsorption.

Richardson et al. （Sci Bull, 2015. doi：10.1007/ sl1434-015-0806-z） suggest that the irreducibly simple climate model described in monckton of Brenchley et al. （Sci Bull 60：122-135, 2015. doi：10.1007/s11434-014- 0699-2） was not validated against observations, relying instead on synthetic test data based on underestimated global warming, illogical parameter choice and near-in- stantaneous response at odds with ocean warming and other observations. However, the simple model, informed by its authors＇ choice of parameters, usually hindcasts observed temperature change more closely than the general-circu- lation models, and finds high climate sensitivity implausi- ble. With IPCC＇s choice of parameters, the model is further validated in that it duly replicates IPCC＇s sensitivity interval. Also, fast climate system response is consistent with near-zero or net-negative temperature feedback. Given the large uncertainties in the initial conditions and evolutionary processes determinative of climate sensitivity, subject to obvious caveats a simple sensitivity-focused model need not, and the present model does not, exhibit significantly less predictive skill than the general-circula- tion models.

AIm:To analyze whether high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) ablation is an effective bridging therapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).mETHODS:From January 2007 to December 2010,49 consecutive HCC patients were listed for liver transplantation(UCSF criteria).The median waiting time for transplantation was 9.5 ***-nine patients received transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) as a bringing therapy and 16 patients received no treatment before *** patients received HIFU ablation as a bridging *** five patients with the same tumor staging(within the UCSF criteria) who received HIFU ablation but not on the transplant list were included for *** were comparable in terms of Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores,tumor size and number,and cause of ***:The HIFU group and TACE group showed no difference in terms of tumor size and tumor *** patient in the HIFU group and no patient in the TACE group had gross *** median hospital stay was 1 d(range,1-21 d) in the TACE group and two days(range,1-9 d) in the HIFU group(P mplication *** the HIFU group,nine patients(90%) had complete response and one patient(10%) had partial response to the *** the TACE group,only one patient(3%) had response to the treatment while 14 patients(48%) had stable disease and 14 patients(48%) had progressive disease(P = 0.00).Seven patients in the TACE group and no patient in the HIFU group dropped out from the transplant waiting list(P = 0.559).CONCLUSION:HIFU ablation is safe and effective in the treatment of HCC for patients with advanced *** may reduce the drop-out rate of liver transplant candidate.

This work focuses on a novel lightweight machine learning approach to the task of plant disease classification,posing as a core component of a larger grow-light smart monitoring *** the extent of our knowledge,this work is the first to implement lightweight convolutional neural network architectures leveraging down-scaled versions of inception blocks,residual connections,and dense residual connections applied without pre-training to the PlantVillage *** novel contributions of this work include the proposal of a smart monitor-ing framework outline;responsible for detection and classification of ailments via the devised lightweight net-works as well as interfacing with LED grow-light fixtures to optimize environmental parameters and lighting control for the growth of plants in a greenhouse *** adaptation of dense residual connections achieved the best balance of minimizing model parameters and maximizing performance metrics with accuracy,precision,recall,and F1-scores of 96.75%,97.62%,97.59%,and 97.58%respectively,while consisting of only 228,479 model *** results are further compared against various full-scale state-of-the-art model architectures trained on the PlantVillage dataset,of which the proposed down-scaled lightweight models were capable of performing equally to,if not better than many large-scale counterparts with drastically less com-putational requirements.
