The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in the maintenance of health for amphibians,and it has been fully recognized,but the effectiveness of various influencing factors has not yet been fully clarified.Although this association should be considered while the amphibian order Caudata is facing a severe situation of population decline and extinction,there is little understanding of the association between diets and the diversity of gut microbiota in the amphibian order Caudata.Here,we conducted an extensive analysis of the gut microbiota of Cynops orientalis fed different diets using functional prediction and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing techniques.First,we found that wild individuals had greater gut microbial diversity and richness in comparison to captive individuals.Second,we identified the bacterial taxa associated with diets and observed differences in the relative abundance of gut microbiota among people on various diets.Finally,we have a predictive comprehension of the selection and adaptative significance of shared core ASVs in the gut microbiota in maintaining the healthy survival of C.orientalis in a large-scale spatiotemporal map.Our study emphasizes how diets alter the gut microbiota of Caudata and offers fresh perspectives on the conservation and captive management of species in Caudata.

One of the main obstacles limiting the performance of protonic ceramic fuel cells(PCFCs) is the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) at reduced temperatures.Here,the surface manipulation of a triple-conducting cathode BaCe_(0.5)Pr_(0.3)Y_(0.2)O_(3-δ)(BCPY) by an efficient catalyst coating PrNi_(0.5)Co_(0.5)O_(3-δ)(PNC) to enhance the ORR activity and CO_(2) tolerance is reported.The developed PNC-coated BCPY cathode achieves the polarization resistance of 0.25 and 1.00 Ω cm^(2) at 600 and 500 ℃,respectively,approximately 1/5 of that for the pristine BCPY cathode(0.99 and 4.79 Ω cm^(2)),while maintaining an excellent CO_(2) tolerance.The single cell on a BaZr_(0.8)Yb_(0.2)O_(3-δ) electrolyte also exhibits a high peak power density of 0.79 W cm^(-2)at 700 ℃ and a stable operation for 200 h at 600 ℃.Such high ORR activity is mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of BCPY support and PNC nanoparticles.Namely,BCPY provides a tripleconducting path(mainly protons),and PNC nanoparticles facilitates surface oxygen exchange and steam adsorption/desorption processes due to the enriched surface oxygen vacancies.This study will provide a new design strategy for developing high-performance PCFCs cathode.

Methane(CH_(4))is a potent greenhouse gas that has a substantial impact on global warming due to its substantial influence on the greenhouse effect.Increasing extreme precipitation events,such as drought,attributable to global warming that caused by greenhouse gases,exert a profound impact on the intricate biological processes associated with CH_(4) uptake.Notably,the timing of extreme drought occurrence emerges as a pivotal factor influencing CH_(4) uptake,even when the degree of drought remains constant.However,it is still unclear how the growing season regulates the response of CH_(4) uptake to extreme drought.In an effort to bridge this knowledge gap,we conducted a field manipulative experiment to evaluate the impact of extreme drought on CH_(4) uptake during early,middle,and late growing stages in a temperate steppe of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,China.The result showed that all extreme drought consistently exerted positive effects on CH_(4) uptake regardless of seasonal timing.However,the magnitude of this effect varied depending on the timing of season,as evidenced by a stronger effect in early growing stage than in middle and late growing stages.Besides,the pathways of CH_(4) uptake were different from seasonal timing.Extreme drought affected soil physical-chemical properties and aboveground biomass(AGB),consequently leading to changes in CH_(4) uptake.The structural equation model showed that drought both in the early and middle growing stages enhanced CH_(4) uptake due to reduced soil water content(SWC),leading to a decrease in NO_(3)–-N and an increase in pmoA abundance.However,drought in late growing stage primarily enhanced CH_(4) uptake only by decreasing SWC.Our results suggested that seasonal timing significantly contributed to regulate the impacts of extreme drought pathways and magnitudes on CH_(4) uptake.The findings can provide substantial implications for understanding how extreme droughts affect CH_(4) uptake and improve the prediction of potential ecological consequence under future cl

Weed competition seriously threatens the yield of alfalfa, the most important forage legume worldwide,thus generating herbicide-resistant alfalfa varieties is becoming a necessary cost-effective strategy toassist farmers for weed control. Here, we report the co-expression of plant codon-optimized forms ofGR79 EPSPS (pGR79 EPSPS) and N-acetyltransferase (pGAT) genes, in alfalfa, via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. We established that the pGR79 EPSPS-pGAT co-expression alfalfa lines were able totolerate up to tenfold higher commercial usage of glyphosate and produced approximately ten timeslower glyphosate residues than the conventional cultivar. Our findings generate an elite herbicideresistant germplasm for alfalfa breeding and provide a promising strategy for developing high-glyphosate-resistant and low-glyphosate-residue forages.

Synthesis of an IMF zeolite membrane for the separation of xylene isomer

The synthesis of a continuous IMF zeolite membrane was fabricated on tubular substrates by seeded growth for the first time. The straight channels of IMF zeolite with diameters of 0.53–0.59 nm are distinguishable for p-xylene from o-xylene molecules. Pure IMF-phase high-silica IM-5 zeolite seeds with uniform and fine crystal size were fabricated by a new sonication-assisted aging process. The seeds were coated on the support by dipcoating and induced the formation of continuous membrane. Separation performance in p-/o-xylene mixture was investigated at various temperature and pressure. The typical IM-5zeolite membrane had p-/o-xylene separation factor of 3.7. Our results suggest that IM-5 zeolite is a potentially good membrane material for the separation of xylene mixtures.

Geochemical behaviors of heavy metals are closely related to their chemical state that can be divided by sequential extraction into exchangeable(F1),bound to carbonates(F2),bound to Fe-Mn oxides(F3),bound to organic matter or sulfide(F4),and residual(F5).Uranium in sediment of the Huanghe(Yellow)River,China,in different chemical states was extracted using the five-step procedure of Tessier and the source and sink were analyzed.Results show that more than 70%of the total uranium was immobile residual F5 in abundance,followed in order of F4>F3>F2>F1,indicating that the main source of uranium in the sediments was from weathered rock in the drainage basin.In addition,the uranium in the sediments presents potential exogenous input in the Lanzhou,Baotou,and Tongguan reach.Fe-Mn oxides are main carriers of unstable uranium,especially those of F1 and F3.Calcite and illite are secondary adsorption minerals of unstable uranium in sediments under natural conditions.Human activities can also produce an obvious impact on uranium speciation.This study provides a reference for the application of sequential extraction in analyzing the source and sink of uranium in river sediments.

Comparisons and Improvements of Key Operating Characteristics of Current Source Converter Applied in HVDC System

Because of its controlled power factor and no commutation failure,current source converter(CSC)made up of reverse-blocking IGCTs(RB-IGCTs)offers broad application prospects in the field of HVDC system.Valve voltage and power operating range as the most important operating characteristics should be paid attention to but they are always contradictory.First,the relationship between valve voltage and modulation index is obtained.In particular,valve voltage of converter under the three typical modulation methods is compared,analyzed,and verified.Second,with the help of the independent control strategy and coordinated control strategy of both ends,power operating ranges of the three modulation methods are comprehensively analyzed and compared.Third,in order to solve power coupling at a low active power,the improved coordination control strategy at both ends in this paper is proposed and the relationships among active power,reactive power,DC current and phase angle difference are given in detail.Finally,a 500 kV/3 kA simulation system was built in PSCAD/EMTDC to obtain comparison results of the key operating characteristics of CSC under different modulation methods and the converter can realize unity power operation under random active power after adopting the improved coordinated control strategy,and DC current does not decrease to zero,verifying effectiveness of the coordinated control strategy.

An acute toxicity test in Sprague Dawley(SD)rats and a chromosomal aberration toxicity test in Chinese hamster lung(CHL)fibroblasts were conducted to promote the application of insect wax and its policosanol.Results of oral acute toxicity test showed that the LD;values of insect wax and its policosanol were higher than 5000 mg/kg.The rats showed no obvious toxic symptoms and survived,suggesting that these substances were not toxic.The chromosomal aberration rates of the CHL cells incubated with insect wax for 3-6 h under metabolic activation conditions and for 3-6 h and 24 h under non-metabolic activation conditions were lower than 5%.No significant difference was found compared with the negative control group.Also,no significant difference in chromosomal aberration rates was found between each dose group of policosanol under metabolic or non-metabolic activation conditions and the negative control group.Therefore,the chromosomal aberration rates of CHL cells treated with insect wax and its policosanol were negative regardless of metabolic activation conditions.These results indicate the absence of acute toxicity and potential chromosomal aberration in the tested dose range of insect wax and its policosanol.
