A study of the soil water potential threshold values to trigger irrigation of ‘Shimizu Hakuto’ peach at pivotal fruit developmental stages

Water management is an important practice that affects fruit size and quality.Effective implementation of irrigation scheduling requires knowledge of the appropriate indicators and thresholds,which are established manly based on the effects of water deficits on final fruit quality.Few studies have focused on the real-time effects of water status on fruit and shoot growth.To establish soil water potential (ψ_(soil)) thresholds to trigger irrigation of peach at pivotal fruit developmental stages,photogrammetry,^(13)C labelling,and other techniques were used in this study to investigate real-time changes in stem diameter,fruit projected area,net leaf photosynthetic rate (P_(n)),and allocation of photoassimilates to fruit under soil water potential conditions ranging from saturation to stress in 6-year-old Shimizu hakuto’peach.Stem growth,fruit growth,and P_n exhibited gradually decreasing sensitivity to water deficits during fruit developmental stages I,II,and III.Stem diameter growth was significantly inhibited whenψ_(soil)dropped to-8.5,-7.6,and-5.4 k Pa,respectively.Fruit growth rate was low,reaching zero when theψ_(soil)was-9.0 to-23.1,-14.9 to-21.4,and-16.5 to-23.3 k Pa,respectively,and P_ndecreased significantly when theψ_(soil)reached-24.2,-22.7,and-20.4 kPa,respectively.In addition,more photoassimilates were allocated to fruit under moderateψ_(soil)conditions (-10.1 to-17.0 k Pa) than under otherψ_(soil)values.Our results revealed threeψ_(soil)thresholds,-10.0,-15.0,and-15.0 kPa,suitable for triggering irrigation during stages I,II,and III,respectively.These thresholds can be helpful for controlling excessive tree vigor,maintaining rapid fruit growth and leaf photosynthesis,and promoting the allocation of more photoassimilates to fruit.

BACKGROUND Numerous observational studies have documented a correlation between inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)and an increased risk of dementia.However,the causality of their associations remains elusive.AIM To assess the causal relationship between IBD and the occurrence of all-cause dementia using the two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR)method.METHODS Genetic variants extracted from the large genome-wide association study(GWAS)for IBD(the International IBD Genetics Consortium,n=34652)were used to identify the causal link between IBD and dementia(FinnGen,n=306102).The results of the study were validated via another IBD GWAS(United Kingdom Biobank,n=463372).Moreover,MR egger intercept,MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier,and Cochran's Q test were employed to evaluate pleiotropy and heterogeneity.Finally,multiple MR methods were performed to estimate the effects of genetically predicted IBD on dementia,with the inverse variance weighted approach adopted as the primary analysis.RESULTS The results of the pleiotropy and heterogeneity tests revealed an absence of significant pleiotropic effects or heterogeneity across all genetic variants in outcome GWAS.No evidence of a causal effect between IBD and the risk of dementia was identified in the inverse variance weighted[odds ratio(OR)=0.980,95%CI:0.942-1.020,P value=0.325],weighted median(OR=0.964,95%CI:0.914-1.017,P value=0.180),and MR-Egger(OR=0.963,95%CI:0.867-1.070,P value=0.492)approaches.Consistent results were observed in validation analyses.Reverse MR analysis also showed no effect of dementia on the development of IBD.Furthermore,MR analysis suggested that IBD and its subtypes did not causally affect allcause dementia and its four subtypes,including dementia in Alzheimer's disease,vascular dementia,dementia in other diseases classified elsewhere,and unspecified dementia.CONCLUSION Taken together,our MR study signaled that IBD and its subentities were not genetically associated with all-cause dementia or its subtypes.Further large prospective studies are w

What can we learn from quality assurance badges in open-source software?

In the development of open-source software(OSS), many developers use badges to give an overview of the software and share some key features/metrics conveniently. Among various badges, quality assurance(QA) badges make up a large proportion and are the most prevalent because QA is of vital importance in software development, and ineffective QA may lead to anomalies or defects. In this paper, we focus on QA badges in open-source projects, which present quality assurance information directly and instantly,and aim to produce some interesting findings and provide practical implications. We collect and analyze 100000 projects written in popular programming languages from GitHub and conduct a comprehensive empirical study both inside and outside QA badges. Inside QA badges, we build a category classification for all QA badges based on the properties they focus on, which shows the types of QA badges developers use. Then,we analyze the frequency of the properties that QA badges focus on, and property combinations, too, which present their use status. We find that QA badges focus on various properties while developers give different preferences to different properties. The use status also differs between different programming languages. For example, projects written in C focus on Security to a great extent. Our findings also provide implications for developers and badge providers. Outside QA badges, we conduct a correlation analysis between QA badges and some software metrics that have potential relationships with code quality, contribution quality, and popularity. We find that QA badges have statistically significant correlations with various software metrics.

BACKGROUND In recent years,confocal laser endomicroscopy(CLE)has become a new endoscopic imaging technology at the microscopic level,which is extensively performed for real-time in vivo histological examination.CLE can be performed to distinguish benign from malignant lesions.In this study,we diagnosed using CLE an asymptomatic patient with poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma.CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old woman was diagnosed with gastric mucosal lesions,which may be gastric cancer,in the small curvature of the stomach by gastroscopy.She consented to undergo CLE for morphological observation of the gastric mucosa.Through the combination of CLE diagnosis and postoperative pathology,the intraoperative CLE diagnosis was considered to be reliable.According to our experience,CLE can be performed as the first choice for the diagnosis of gastric cancer.CONCLUSION CLE has several advantages over pathological diagnosis.We believe that CLE has great potential in the diagnosis of benign and malignant gastric lesions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of the Chinese herbal formula of Jiedu Huayu decoction(解毒化瘀汤, JHD) on oral mucosa of rats with oral submucosal fibrosis(OSF) and its potential mechanism of action. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley male OSF model rats were constructed by injection of betaine and topical rubbing and were randomly grouped and administered by gavage for 4 weeks. Mouth opening and buccal mucosa scores interleukin levels and the expression of Axin and β-catenin proteins or genes were measured before and after drug administration. RESULTS: After treatment with JHD the buccal mucosal lesions of rats were significantly reduced Axin protein and mRNA expression were significantly increased β-catenin protein and m RNA expression were significantly decreased interleukin-1β and interleukin-6 levels were decreased and interleukin-10 levels were increased. CONCLUSION: The mechanism of action of JHD can effectively alleviate the pathological damage of buccal mucosa in OSF rats which may be related to the promotion of Axin expression and inhibition of β-catenin expression.

The effects of the water-cement ratio and the molding temperature on the hydration heat of cement were investigated with semi-adiabatic calorimetry.The specimens were prepared with water-cement ratios of 0.31,0.38,and 0.45,and the molding temperature was specified at 10 and 20℃.The experimental results show that,as the water-binder ratio increases,the value of the second temperature peak on the temperature curve of the cement paste decreases,and the age at which the peak appears is delayed.The higher the water-cement ratio,the higher the hydration heat release in the early period of cement hydration,but this trend reverses in the late period.There are intersection points of the total hydration heat curve of the cement pastes under the influence of the water-cement ratio,and this law can be observed at both molding temperatures.With the increase in the molding temperature,the age of the second temperature peak on the temperature curve of the cement paste will advance,but the temperature peak will decrease.The higher the molding temperature,the earlier the acceleration period of the cement hydration began,and the larger the hydration heat of the cement in the early stage,but the smaller the total heat in the late period.A subsection function calculation model of the hydration heat,which was based on the existing models,was proposed in order to predict the heat of the hydration of the concrete.

The“Belt and Road”initiative functions as a novel impetus for China’s external economic development within the framework of the new normal of economic growth.By leveraging panel data from 30 provinces and regions across China for the period of 2010 to 2020,this research assesses the influence of the“Belt and Road”initiative on the enhancement of the industrial structure along its trajectory.The findings indicate that:the most notable influence on the rationalization and progress of the industrial structure is observed in the eastern region,with the central region following suit,whereas the western region has yet to exhibit a significant transformation.The analysis delves into the role of technological innovation,concluding that the initiative primarily catalyzes optimization and upgrading through the effect of technological advancement.The study advances several pertinent policy recommendations to support and enhance these developments.

Objective:To investigate the pharmacological mechanism of Qili Qiangxin Capsule(QLQX)improvement of heart failure(HF)based on miR133a-endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS)pathway.Methods:A left coronary artery ligation-induced HF after myocardial infarction model was used in this study.Rats were randomly assigned to the sham group,the model group,the QLQX group[0.32 g/(kg·d)],and the captopril group[2.25 mg/(kg·d)],15 rats per group,followed by 4 weeks of medication.Cardiac function such as left ventricular ejection fraction(EF),fractional shortening(FS),left ventricular systolic pressure(LVSP),left ventricular end diastolic pressure(LVEDP),the maximal rate of increase of left ventricular pressure(+dp/dt max),and the maximal rate of decrease of left ventricular pressure(–dp/dt max)were monitored by echocardiography and hemodynamics.Hematoxylin and eosin(HE)and Masson stainings were used to visualize pathological changes in myocardial tissue.The m RNA expression of mi R133a,glucose-regulated protein78(GRP78),inositol-requiring enzyme 1(IRE1),activating transcription factor 6(ATF6),X-box binding protein1(XBP1),C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP)and Caspase 12 were detected by RT-PCR.The protein expression of GRP78,p-IRE1/IRE1ratio,cleaved-ATF6,XBP1-s(the spliced form of XBP1),CHOP and Caspase 12 were detected by Western blot.Td T-mediated d UTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL)staining was used to detect the rate of apoptosis.Results:QLQX significantly improved cardiac function as evidenced by increased EF,FS,LVSP,+dp/dt max,-dp/dt max,and decreased LVEDP(P<0.05,P<0.01).HE staining showed that QLQX ameliorated cardiac pathologic damage to some extent.Masson staining indicated that QLQX significantly reduced collagen volume fraction in myocardial tissue(P<0.01).Results from RT-PCR and Western blot showed that QLQX significantly increased the expression of mi R133a and inhibited the m RNA expressions of GRP78,IRE1,ATF6 and XBP1,as well as decreased the protein expressions of GRP78,cleaved-ATF6 and XBP1-s and decreased p-IRE1/IRE1 rati
