Colorectal cancer causes the third most common type of malignant tumors with high morbidity and mortality.Chemotherapy is currently one of the most effective and common treatments for colorectal cancer.However,the poor water solubility of some chemotherapeutics,untargeted drug delivery,and the undesirable systemic side effects of conventional treatment remain the major issues for colorectal cancer chemotherapy.Fortunately,drug delivery systems(DDS)based on biomaterials have been widely investigated and found to be capable of resolving those issues with good performance.Therefore,the main goal of this review is to summarize and discuss the progress and potential advantages of different DDS for colorectal cancer chemotherapy.We not only reviewed the nanocarriers used to improve the solubility of chemotherapeutics,including liposomes,micelles,and nanoparticles,but also discussed targeted DDS based on specific ligand-receptor recognition and tumor microenvironmental stimulus responses.Furthermore,locally administered systems based on hydrogels and microspheres,which have been shown to increase drug accumulation at the tumor site while decreasing systemic toxicity,were also emphasized.DDS provides a good option for improving the efficacy of chemotherapy in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Federated learning(FL) enables distributed clients to collaboratively train a machine learning model without sharing raw data with each other. However, it suffers from the leakage of private information from uploading models. In addition, as the model size grows, the training latency increases due to the limited transmission bandwidth and model performance degradation while using differential privacy(DP)protection. In this paper, we propose a gradient sparsification empowered FL framework with DP over wireless channels, to improve training efficiency without sacrificing convergence performance. Specifically, we first design a random sparsification algorithm to retain a fraction of the gradient elements in each client’s local model, thereby mitigating the performance degradation induced by DP and reducing the number of transmission parameters over wireless channels. Then, we analyze the convergence bound of the proposed algorithm, by modeling a non-convex FL problem. Next, we formulate a time-sequential stochastic optimization problem for minimizing the developed convergence bound, under the constraints of transmit power, the average transmitting delay, as well as the client’s DP requirement. Utilizing the Lyapunov drift-plus-penalty framework, we develop an analytical solution to the optimization problem. Extensive experiments have been implemented on three real-life datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. We show that our proposed algorithms can fully exploit the interworking between communication and computation to outperform the baselines, i.e., random scheduling, round robin, and delay-minimization algorithms.

The compromised egg quality and leg abnormality during the end of the laying cycle(after 40 weeks)have been leading to poor animal welfare and substantial economic losses. Therefore, the effects of fermented calcium(Ca) butyrate, produced by fermentation by Clostridium butyricum, on production,eggshell quality, and tibial property of hens were explored. A total of 192 Hy-line brown laying hens at50-week-old were assigned to a basal diet or the basal diet with 300 mg/kg of the fermented Ca butyrate from 50 to 58 weeks of age. Each treatment had 6 replicates with 16 hens each. The diet supplemented with 300 mg/kg fermented Ca butyrate notably increased egg weight, ovarian follicle number, and eggshell strength(P = 0.072) as compared to the basal diet, which were associated with cytokine secretion, toll-like receptor signaling pathways, and intestinal immunity based on the RNA-seq data from the granulosa. Dietary Ca butyrate inclusion decreased the expression of ileal tumor necrosis factor-alpha and serum pro-inflammatory cytokine concentration, as well as increased the content of serum immunoglobulin A when compared to the basal diet(both P 0.05). In addition, the diet with fermented Ca butyrate reduced the number of osteoclasts in the proximal tibia and the level of C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen, a bone resorption marker(P < 0.05), whereas it tended to increase the concentration of the procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide that reflects bone formation marker in serum. Moreover, the layers fed fermented Ca butyrate diets possessed higher(P < 0.05) bone area and trabecular number of the proximal tibia, yield load, and ultimate load than those that consumed basal diets. In recent decades,Southwest China(SWC)has suffered from frequent super droughts,leading to severe economic losses and ecological degradation.This study investigates the characteristics of super droughts in SWC during 1961-2022,reveals the compounding effect of multiscalar anomalies,and explores the plausible atmospheric circulation mechanisms responsible.The nature of super drought is a compound drought caused by the superposition of extreme drought events across multiple time scales.By contrasting the typical drought cases in 2006 and 2022,the decisive role of multiscalar drought compounding is confirmed.Based on the Comprehensive Multiscalar Index(CMI),multiple super drought events in SWC were identified to be temporally clustered during 2006-2014.Among them,the decadal background of enhanced evaporation and precipitation deficit at long time scales is a necessary condition for shaping the overall pattern of super droughts,while the precipitation and evaporation anomalies at short time scales trigger the outbreak of super droughts,determining the exact timing of occurrence.These events include August-September 2006,November 2009 to May 2010,July-October 2011,April-May 2012,January-April 2013,etc.Statistical results suggest that the contribution of superposed precipitation anomalies to super drought is 2.4 times that of evaporation.As regards the circulation mechanisms affecting multiscalar precipitation,the anomalous spatial patterns at short-term and long-term scales are similar,featuring the cyclonic circulation over the South China Sea and the northeasterly wind anomalies together with the subsidence center over SWC.During 2006-2014,the possible causes for the cross-seasonal persistent precipitation reduction in SWC are the extreme negative phase of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO)in the North Pacific as well as the pronounced warming of the warm pool in the western Pacific.The key dynamic processes are outlined as follows.On the one hand,the negative PDO phase generates anomalous anticyclonic circulatio

As interest in double perovskites is growing,especially in applications like photovoltaic devices,understanding their mechanical properties is vital for device durability.Despite extensive exploration of structure and optical properties,research on mechanical aspects is limited.This article builds a vacancyordered double perovskite model,employing first-principles calculations to analyze mechanical,bonding,electronic,and optical properties.Results show Cs2Hfl6,Cs2SnBr6,Cs2SnI6,and Cs2PtBr6have Young's moduli below 13 GPa,indicating flexibility.Geometric parameters explain flexibility variations with the changes of B and X site composition.Bonding characteristic exploration reveals the influence of B and X site electronegativity on mechanical strength.Cs2SnBr6and Cs2PtBr6are suitable for solar cells,while Cs2HfI6and Cs2TiCl6show potential for semi-transparent solar cells.Optical property calculations highlight the high light absorption coefficients of up to 3.5 ×10～5 cm-1for Cs2HfI6and Cs2TiCl6.Solar cell simulation shows Cs2PtBr6achieves 22.4% of conversion effciency.Cs2ZrCl6holds promise for ionizing radiation detection with its 3.68 eV bandgap and high absorption coefficient.Vacancy-ordered double perovskites offer superior flexibility,providing valuable insights for designing stable and flexible devices.This understanding enhances the development of functional devices based on these perovskites,especially for applications requiring high stability and flexibility.

The global practical implementation of proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs)heavily relies on the advancement of highly effective platinum(Pt)-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).To achieve high ORR performance,electrocatalysts with highly accessible reactive surfaces are needed to promote the uncovering of active positions for easy mass transportation.In this critical review,we introduce different approaches for the emerging development of effective ORR electrocatalysts,which offer high activity and durability.The strategies,including morphological engineering,geometric configuration modification via supporting materials,alloys regulation,core-shell,and confinement engineering of single atom electrocatalysts(SAEs),are discussed in line with the goals and requirements of ORR performance enhancement.We review the ongoing development of Pt electrocatalysts based on the syntheses,nanoarchitecture,electrochemical performances,and stability.We eventually explore the obstacles and research directions on further developing more effective electrocatalysts.

Second-order topological photonic crystals support localized corner modes that deviate from the conventional bulk-edge correspondence.However,the frequency shift of corner modes spanning the photonic band gap has not been experimentally reported.Here,we observe the gapless corner modes of photonic crystal slabs within a parameter space by considering translation as an additional synthetic dimension.These corner modes,protected by topological pumping in synthetic translation dimensions,are found to exist independently of the specific corner configuration.The gapless corner modes are experimentally imaged via the near-field scanning measurement and validated numerically by full-wave simulations.We propose a topological rainbow with gradient translation,demonstrating the ability to extract and separate specific frequency components of light into different spatial locations.Our work contributes to the advancement of topological photonics and provides valuable insights into the exploration of gapless corner modes in synthetic dimensions.

Although selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT)is a recognized method for the treatment of glaucoma,the exact changes in the target tissue and mechanism for its intraocular pressure lowing effect are still unclear.The purpose of this review is to summarize the potential mechanisms of SLT on trabecular meshwork both in vivo and in vitro,so as to reveal the potential mechanism of SLT.SLT may induce immune or inflammatory response in trabecular meshwork(TM)induced by possible oxidative damage etc,and remodel extracellular matrix.It may also induce monocytes to aggregate in TM tissue,increase Schlemm’s canal(SC)cell conductivity,disintegrate cell junction and promote permeability through autocrine and paracrine forms.This provides a theoretical basis for SLT treatment in glaucoma.
