Computational exploration and screening of novel Janus MA2Z4 (M = Sc–Zn, Y–Ag, Hf–Au;A=Si, Ge;Z=N, P) monolayers and potential application as a photocatalyst

By high-throughput calculations,13 thermally and environmentally stable Janus MA_(2)Z_(4) monolayers were screened from 104 types of *** 13 stable monolayers have very high charge carrier concentrations(×10^(15) cm^(–2)),which are better than those of the well-known graphene and TaS_(2).Because of their excellent conductivity,the 6 monolayers with band gaps less than 0.5 eV are identified as potential electrode materials for hydrogen evolution reaction *** potential applications as photoelectric or photocatalytic materials,bandgaps(Eg-HSE)higher than 0.5 eV remained,which resulted in 7 potential *** on optical absorption analysis in the visible-light range,H-HfSiGeP_(4) and HMoSiGeP_(4) have higher absorption ability and optical conductivity,which is quite impressive for optoelectronic,solar cell device,and photocatalysis ***,the transmittance coefficient of Janus MA_(2)Z_(4) monolayers is approximately 70%–80%in the visible-light range,which implies that these monolayers show good light *** potential applications as photocatalysts,the redox potential and charge effective mass analysis indicate that H-HfSiGeP_(4),HMoSiGeP_(4),T-ScSiGeN_(4),and T-ZrSiGeN_(4) are suitable photocatalysts for CO_(2) reduction *** high-throughput identification,13 types of new and stable Janus MA2Z4 monolayers were explored,and the basic properties and potential applications were investigated,which can reduce the time for experiments and provide basic data for the material genome initiative.

Vanadium Nitride Nanoparticles as Anode Material for Lithium Ion Hybrid Capacitor Applications

A high production efficiency synthesis method was used to produce a stacked vanadium nitride nanoparticle structure with an inexpensive raw material as an anode material and high surface area polystyrene was used the cathode material for lithium ion hybrid capacitors. The Li-HCs cell displayed an excellent specific capacitance of 64.2 F·g^-1 at a current density of 0.25 A·g^-1 and a wide potential window of 0.01 to 3.5 V. Furthermore, the device exhibited a high energy density of 109.3 W·h·kg^-1 at a power density of 512.3 W·kg^-1 and retained an energy density of 69.2 W·h·kg^-1 at a high power density of 3 498.9 W· kg^-1 at 2 A·g^-1. Due to the short synthesis time and simple raw materials, this method is suitable for industrial production.

Measurements of suspended particulate matter with laser in-situ scattering and transmissometry in the Jiaozhou Bay in China

A laser in-situ scattering and transmissemetry probe （LISST - 100） was used to estimate the spatial variations of suspended particle （aggregate） distribution, volume concentration and beam attenuation in the Jiaozhou Bay, Qingdao, China on 18 July 2003. One study site was located at the mouth （Sta. J1 ）, with the other being within the inner bay （Sta. J2）. Measurements of total suspended matter （TSM） and chlorophyll fluorescence and sampling of bottom sediments were carried out simultaneously. On the basis of the field data, the in-situ particle effective density, settling velocity and flux, and particle projected surface area （PSA） were estimated. The results demonstrate that both profiles have similar particle size distributions from surface to bottom within the water columns. Mean particle diameters for Stas J1 and J2 are 38 - 74 and 1 - 20 μm, respectively, particles within these ranges dominate over the particulate components. Suspended particle volume concentrations increase with water depth, with spikes near the bottom. At Sta. J1, the mean size of bottom sediments and those of suspended particles at 10.8 m below the water surface are almost the same, as well as their size distributions. This observation suggests that a special affinity exists between bottom sediment and suspended particles. In addition, the estimates show that the effective density, settling velocity and flux are higher in the innet bay. Beam attenuation coefficient correlates well with the volume concentration, positively. It is inferred that the optical scattering was mostly caused by 1 - 250 μm components, among which the particles finer than 20 μm dominate the beam attenuation. The PSA appears a proxy for the leaving reflectance estimation.

The design and fabrication of Co3O4/Co3V2O8/Ni nanocomposites as high-performance anodes for Li-ion batteries

The CoO/CoVO/Ni nanocomposites were rationally designed and prepared by a two-step hydrothermal synthesis and subsequent annealing treatment. The one-dimensional（1D） CoOnanowire arrays directly grew on Ni foam, whereas the 1D CoVOnanowires adhered to parts of *** of the hybrid nanowires were inlayed with each other, forming a 3D hybrid nanowires *** a result, the discharge capacity of CoO/CoVO/Ni nanocomposites could reach 1201.8 mAh/g after100 cycles at 100 mA/g. After 600 cycles at 1 A/g, the discharge capacity was maintained at 828.1 mAh/***, even though the charge/discharge rates were increased to 10 A/g, it rendered reversible capacity of 491.2 mAh/g. The superior electrochemical properties of nanocomposites were probably ascribed to their unique 3D architecture and the synergistic effects of two active materials. Therefore, such CoO/CoVO/Ni nanocomposites could potentially be used as anode materials for high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Fabricating SiC ceramics via the digital light processing(DLP)technology is of great challenge due to strong light absorption and high refractive index of deep-colored SiC powders,which highly differ from those of resin,and thus significantly affect the curing performance of the photosensitive SiC *** this paper,a thin silicon oxide(SiO_(2))layer was in-situ formed on the surface of SiC powders by pre-oxidation *** method was proven to effectively improve the curing ability of SiC *** SiC photosensitive slurry was fabricated with solid content of 55 vol%and viscosity of 7.77 Pa·s(shear rate of 30 s^(−1)).The curing thickness was 50μm with exposure time of only 5 ***,a well-designed sintering additive was added to completely convert low-strength SiO_(2) into mullite reinforcement during *** mullite-bond SiC ceramics were successfully *** flexural strength of SiC ceramics sintered at 1550℃in air reached 97.6 MPa with porosity of 39.2 vol%,as high as those prepared by spark plasma sintering(SPS)techniques.

Highly transparent and super-wettable nanocoatings hybridized with isocyanate-silane modified surfactant for multifunctional applications

Atomic mobilities and diffusivities in Al alloys

Knowledge of diffusivity is a prerequisite for understanding many scientific and technological disciplines. In this paper, firstly major experimental methods, which are employed to provide various diffusivity data, are briefly described. Secondly, the fun-damentals of various computational methods, including first-principles method, embedded atomic method/molecular dynamic simulation, semi-empirical approaches, and phenomenological DICTRA technique, are demonstrated. Diffusion models re- cently developed for order/disorder transitions and stoichiometric compounds are also briefly depicted. Thirdly, a newly estab- lished diffusivity database for liquid, fcc_A1, Lie, bcc_A2, bcc_B2, and interrnetallic phases in the multicomponent A1 alloys is presented via a few case studies in binary, ternary and quaternary systems. And the integration of various computational techniques and experimental methods is highlighted. The reliability of this diffusivity database is validated by comparing the calculated and measured concentration profiles, diffusion paths, and Kirkendall shifts in various binary, ternary and quaternary diffusion couples. Next, the established diffusivity databases along with thermodynamic and other thermo-physical properties are utilized to simulate the microstructural evolution for Al alloys during solidification, interdiffusion and precipitation. A spe- cial discussion is presented on the phase-field simulation of interdiffusion microstructures in a series of Ni-Al diffusion couples composed of γ, γ＇, and β phases under the effects of both coherent strain and external compressive force. Future orientations in the establishment of next generation of diffusivity database are finally addressed.

Alkali-metal(Li, Na, and K)-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer: an investigation of its outstanding electronic, optical, and photocatalytic properties

Single-layer MoSi_(2)N_(4),a high-quality two-dimensional material,has recently been fabricated by chemical vapor *** by this latest experimental work,herein,we apply first principles calculations to investigate the electronic,optical,and photocatalytic properties of alkali-metal(Li,Na,and K)-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) *** electronic structure analysis shows that pristine MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer exhibits an indirect bandgap(E_(g)=1.89 eV).By contrast,the bandgaps of one Li-,Na-,and K-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer are 1.73 eV,1.61 eV,and 1.75 eV,***,the work function of MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer(4.80 eV)is significantly reduced after the adsorption of alkali metal *** work functions of one Li-,Na-,and K-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer are 1.50 eV,1.43 eV,and 2.03 eV,***,optical investigations indicate that alkali metal adsorption processes substantially increase the visible light absorption range and coefficient of MoSi_(2)N_(4) ***,based on redox potential variations after alkali metals are adsorbed,Li-and Na-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayers are more suitable for the water splitting photocatalytic process,and the Li-adsorbed case shows the highest potential application for CO_(2) *** conclusion,alkali-metal-adsorbed MoSi_(2)N_(4) monolayer exhibits promising applications as novel optoelectronic devices and photocatalytic materials due to its unique physical and chemical properties.

Thickness Dependence of the Initial Oxidation Behaviors of Gd Films Grown on Si by Laser Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Gd thin films with different thickness （about 10 nm and 0.5 nm） were deposited on Si（100） by laser molecular beam epitaxy （LMBE）. Thickness dependence of the initial oxidation behaviors of Gd films was studied based on the in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy （UPS） analysis under ultra-high vacuum （UHV） condition. When the thin film is around 10 urn, the XPS results show that Gd is extremely reactive with oxygen forming Gd oxides and the oxides of Gd are easily hygroscopic. The UPS results show that the Gd 4fhas a double-peak structure and the double-peak structure of Gd 4fevolves into a single-peak feature after exposing to air. When the thickness of the Gd film decreases to about 0.5 urn, the reactivity of Gd film with oxygen is decreased by the diffusion of Si component into Gd layers based on the XPS and UPS results. It is suggested that the silicon atoms segregate at the grain boundaries of Gd film to form a barrier, which block the further diffusion of oxygen and water vapor into the Gd layers.

Development and application of phase diagrams for Li-ion batteries using CALPHAD approach

Phase diagrams provide fundamental knowledge about design map of new electrode materials for Li-ion batteries. The CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) approach is widely applied to the development of phase diagrams and property diagrams in a thermodynamic language. Within the CALPHAD framework, the theoretical modeling can be performed to predict phase equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemical and physical properties of electrodes. This review provides the successful application of high quality calculated phase diagrams and thermodynamic property diagrams in CALPHAD investigation to both cathodes and anodes of Li-ion batteries, including Li–Co–O, Li–Ni–O, Li–Co–Ni–O, Li–Mn–O, Li–Cu–O, Li–Si, Li–Sb and Li–Sn systems with. The intensive CALPHAD-type research may also predict electrochemical properties, cell performance of the Li-ion batteries to achieve more efficient development of electrode materials.
