Quantitative study of peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and peripapillary vessel density in patients with different stages of Parkinson's disease

AIM: To observe the changes in the thickness of peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer(p RNFL) and peripapillary vessel density(pVD) in patients with different stages of Parkinson's disease(PD).METHODS: Totally 47 patients(47 eyes) with primary PD were divided into the mild group and the moderateto-severe group according to Hoehn & Yahr(H&Y) stage. Among them, there were 27 cases(27 eyes) in mild group and 20 cases(20 eyes) in moderate-to-severe group. And 20 cases(20 eyes) who were included in the control group were healthy people who came to our hospital for health screening at the same time. All participants underwent optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) examinations. The pRNFL thickness, total vessel density(tVD) and capillary vessel density(cVD) of the optic disc in average, superior half, inferior half, superior nasal(SN), nasal superior(NS), nasal inferior(NI), inferior nasal(IN), inferior temporal(IT), temporal inferior(TI), temporal superior(TS), and superior temporal(ST) were measured. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the differences of optic disc parameters among the three groups, and Pearson and Spearman correlations were used to analyze the correlation between pRNFL, pVD and the disease duration, H&Y stage and UPDRS-Ⅲ score in patients with PD, ***: There were significant differences in p RNFL thickness in average, superior half, inferior half, SN, NS, IN, IT and ST quadrants among the three groups(P<0.05). In PD group, the pRNFL thickness in average, superior half, inferior half, NS and IT quadrants were negatively correlated with H&Y stage and UPDRS-Ⅲ score, respectively(P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the cVD of whole image, inferior half, NI and TS quadrants, the tVD of the whole image, inferior half, and peripapillary among the three groups(P<0.05). In PD group, the tVD of whole image and the c VD of NI and TS quadrants were negatively correlated with the H&Y stage, respectively(P<0.05);the

A nanocomposite electrocatalyst was prepared with the method of cluster beam deposition of palladium nanoparticle thin lms on carbon nanoparticle supporting layers and used as sensitive nonenzyme hydrogen peroxide sensors. An enhancement on the electrocatalytic activity of the palladium nanoparticles toward H2O2 reduction was observed, which was related to the coverage of the carbon nanoparticles. With one monolayer of carbon nanoparticles, the H2O2 detection sensitivity reached the maximum, which was more than twice of that of the pure Pd nanoparticles.

Composition Dependent Magnetic Coupling in Fe-Cr Alloy Cluster Arrays

Dense arrays of Fe-Cr alloy clusters with different Cr ratios were fabricated by gas-phase cluster beam deposition. The complex multiphase structure and various coupling effects in the cluster arrays were studied. A lattice mismatched tetragonal-like morphology of the Fe-Cr alloy cluster was observed at large Cr ratio. An exchange bias effect was observed and was shown to be dependent on the proportion of the Cr components in the alloy. With the increase of the Cr composition, the exchange bias field became smaller and stronger dipolar interactions between the clusters developed. Residual coercivity and magnetization, which were more remarkable in the tetragonal-like clusters, were observed above the ferromagnetic-superparamagnetic transition temperature. The experimental results of the coercive field and the bias field at different temperatures demonstrated that the tetragonal-like clusters had better thermal stability and greater anisotropy.

Raman amplification of Stokes pulse in ultra-small silicon-on-insulator optical waveguide

The stimulated Raman amplification of picosecond Stokes pulse is numerically investigated in ultra-small silicon-on- insulator optical waveguide. Numerical results show that we obtain the gain of up to 30-dB for weak Stokes pulse in the co- propagation configuration for 10 mm Jength waveguide using high intensity pump optical pulse. The peak gain, pulse width, rise time, and fall time of Stokes pulse will experience the variation course of decaying then increasing with increas- ing waveguide length. The time delay of output Stokes pulse is controlled by adjusting the initial time delay of both pump and Stokes pulses.

Transcranial Sonographic Alterations of Substantia Nigra and Third Ventricle in Parkinson＆#39;s Disease with or without Dementia

Background： Numerous studies have demonstrated that patients with Parkinson＆#39;s disease （PD） have a higher prevalence of substantia nigra （SN） hyperechogenicity compared with controls. Our aim was to explore the neuroimaging characteristics of transcranial sonography （TCS） of patients with PD and those with PD with dementia （PDD）. The correlation between the echogenicity of the SN and clinical symptoms in Chinese patients with PDD was also assessed. Methods： The ratios of SN hyperechogenicity （SN＋）, maximum sizes of SN＋, and widths of third ventricle （TV） were measured using TCS for all the recruited patients. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, rank-sum test, Chi-square test, and receiver-operating characteristic （ROC） curve analysis. Results： The final statistical analysis included 46 PDD patients, 52 PD patients, and 40 controls. There were no significant differences in ratios of SN＋ and maximum sizes of SN＋ between PDD and PD groups （P 〉 0.05）. TV widths were significantly larger in PDD group （7.1± 1.9 mm） than in PD group （6.0± 2.0 mm） and controls （5.9 ± 1.5 mm, P 〈 0.05）; however, the ratios of enlarged TV did not differ among the three groups （P = 0.059）. When cutoff value was set at 6.8 mm, the TV width had a relatively high sensitivity and specificity in discriminating between PDD and PD groups （P = 0.030） and between PDD group and controls （P = 0.003）, based on ROC curve analysis. In PDD patients, SN＋ was more frequently detected in akinetic-rigid subgroup, and patients with SN＋ showed significantly higher Hoehn and Yahr stage and Nonmotor Symptoms Questionnaire scores （P 〈 0.05）. Conclusions： Compared to Chinese patients with PD, patients with PDD had a wider TV, altered SN sonographic features, and more severe clinical symptoms. Our findings suggest that TCS can be used to assess brain atrophy in PD and may be useful in discriminating between PD with and without dementia.

Boosting Oxygen Evolution Reaction Performance on NiFe‑Based Catalysts Through d‑Orbital Hybridization

Anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzers(AEMWEs)for green hydrogen production have received intensive attention due to their feasibility of using earth-abundant NiFe-based *** introducing a third metal into NiFe-based catalysts to construct asymmetrical M-NiFe units,the d-orbital and electronic structures can be adjusted,which is an important strategy to achieve sufficient oxygen evolution reaction(OER)performance in ***,the ternary NiFeM(M:La,Mo)catalysts featured with distinct M-NiFe units and varying d-orbitals are reported in this *** and theoretical calculation results reveal that the doping of La leads to optimized hybridization between d orbital in NiFeM and 2p in oxygen,resulting in enhanced adsorption strength of oxygen intermediates,and reduced rate-determining step energy barrier,which is responsible for the enhanced OER *** critically,the obtained NiFeLa catalyst only requires 1.58 V to reach 1 A cm^(−2) in an anion exchange membrane electrolyzer and demonstrates excellent long-term stability of up to 600 h.

Hot dry rock(HDR)is a kind of clean energy with significant *** the 1970s,the United States,Japan,France,Australia,and other countries have attempted to conduct several HDR development research projects to extract thermal energy by breaking through key ***,up to now,the development of HDR is still in the research,development,and demonstration *** HDR exploration borehole(with 236℃ at a depth of 3705 m)was drilled into Triassic granite in the Gonghe Basin in northwest China in ***,China Geological Survey(CGS)launched the HDR resources exploration and production demonstration project in *** three years of efforts,a sequence of significant technological breakthroughs have been made,including the genetic model of deep heat sources,directional drilling and well completion in high-temperature hard rock,large-scale reservoir stimulation,reservoir characterization,and productivity evaluation,reservoir connectivity and flow circulation,efficient thermoelectric conversion,monitoring,and geological risk assessment,*** the whole-process technological system for HDR exploration and production has been preliminarily established *** first power generation test was completed in November *** results of this project will provide scientific support for HDR development and utilization in the future.

Sonographic Alteration of Basal Ganglia in Different Forms of Primary Focal Dystonia： A Cross-sectional Study

Background：Few studies have addressed whether abnormalities in the lenticular nucleus （LN） are characteristic transcranial sonography （TCS） echo features in patients with primary *** study aimed to explore alterations in the basal ganglia in different forms of primary focal ***：A cross-sectional observational study was performed between December 2013 and December 20 1 4 in 80 patients with different forms of primary focal dystonia and 55 neurologically normal control *** was performed in patients and control *** comparisons of multiple rates were used to compare LN hyperechogenicity ratios between control and patient ***：Thirteen individuals were excluded due to poor temporal bone windows,and two subjects were excluded due to disagreement in evaluation by ***,70 patients （cervical dystonia,n =30;blepharospasm,n =30;oromandibular dystonia,n =10） and 50 normal controls were included in the final *** hyperechogenicity was observed in 51% （36/70） of patients with primary focal dystonia,compared with 12% （6/50） of controls （P 〈 0.001）.Substantia nigra hyperechogenicity did not differ between the two *** hyperechogenicity was observed in 73% （22/30） of patients with cervical dystonia,a greater prevalence than in patients withblepharospasm （33%,10/30,P =0.002） and oromandibular dystonia （40%,4/10,P =0.126）.LN hyperechogenicity was more frequently observed in patients with cervical dystonia compared with controls （73% vs.12%,P 〈 0.001）;however,no significant difference was detected in patients with blepharospasm （33% vs.12%,P =0.021） or oromandibular dystonia （40% vs.12%,P =0.088）.Conclusions：LN hyperechogenicity is more frequently observed in patients with primary focal dystonia than in *** does not appear to be a characteristic TCS echo feature in patients with blepharospasm or oromandibular dystonia.
