Enhancement of matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 accompanied with neurogenesis following collagen glycosaminoglycan matrix implantation after surgical brain injury

Surgical brain injury may result in irreversible neurological deficits. Our previous report showed that partial regeneration of a traumatic brain lesion is achieved by implantation of collagen glycosaminoglycan（CGM）. Matrix metalloproteinases（MMPs） may play an important role in neurogenesis but there is currently a lack of studies displaying the relationship between the stimulation of MMPs and neurogenesis after collagen glycosaminoglycan implantation following surgical brain trauma. The present study was carried out to further examine the expression of MMP2 and MMP9 after implantation of collagen glycosaminoglycan（CGM） following surgical brain trauma. Using the animal model of surgically induced brain lesion, we implanted CGM into the surgical trauma. Rats were thus divided into three groups：（1） sham operation group： craniotomy only;（2） lesion（L） group： craniotomy ＋ surgical trauma lesion;（3） lesion ＋ CGM（L ＋ CGM） group： CGM implanted following craniotomy and surgical trauma lesion. Cells positive for SOX2（marker of proliferating neural progenitor cells） and matrix metalloproteinases（MMP2 and MMP9） in the lesion boundary zone were assayed and analyzed by immunofluorescence and ELISA commercial kits, respectively. Our results demonstrated that following implantation of CGM after surgical brain trauma, significant increases in MMP2^＋/SOX2^＋ cells and MMP9^＋/SOX2^＋ cells were seen within the lesion boundary zone in the L ＋ CGM group. Tissue protein concentrations of MMP2 and MMP9 also increased after CGM scaffold implantation. These findings suggest that implantation of a CGM scaffold alone after surgical brain trauma can enhance the expression of MMP2 and MMP9 accompanied by neurogenesis.

Prognostic factors of short-term outcomes of intravitreal ranibizumab in diabetic macular edema

AIM：To evaluate the prognostic factors for short-term visual and anatomical improvement of intravitreal ranibizumab（IVR） for diabetic macular edema（DME）.METHODS：Fifty-one eyes from 35 patients that received three consecutive monthly IVR for DME with moderate visual loss were retrospectively recruited; all cases had their baseline best-corrected visual acuity（BCVA） between 20/400 and 20/40. BCVA and central subfield thickness（CST） at baseline and month 3 were collected. Linear mixed models were used to evaluate the prognostic factors for visual and anatomical improvement at month ***：Younger age, poorer baseline BCVA and proliferative diabetic retinopathy（PDR） were correlated with better visual improvement at month 3（P=0.002, 0.0001 and 0.007, respectively）. Thicker CST and the presence of subretinal fluid at baseline were correlated with a greater reduction in CST（P〈0.0001 and P=0.018, respectively）. The presence of epiretinal membrane or previous posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide（PSTA） were associated with a smaller reduction in CST（P=0.029 and 0.018, respectively）, but had no significant effects in visual improvement at month 3（P〉0.05 for both）.CONCLUSION：For eyes with DME and moderate visual loss, those with younger age, poorer baseline BCVA or PDR tend to have better visual improvement after three consecutive monthly IVR. Epiretinal membrane or previous PSTA result in less resolution of CST, but do not significantly affect visual improvement.

Ocular hypertension and severe intraocular pressure elevation after posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide for various diseases

AIM:To evaluate and compare the incidences of ocular hyper tension and severe intraocular pressure(IOP)elevation after posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide(PSTA)for various ***:Totally 179 eyes that had received PSTA for diabetic macular edema(n=108),pseudophakic cystoid macular edema(n=20),branch retinal vein occlusion(n=16),central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO,n=14),choroidal neovascularization(n=14)or noninfectious uveitis(n=7)were retrospectively *** primary outcomes included ocular hypertension defined as an IOP>21 mm Hg,and severe IOP elevation defined as a rise of 10 mm Hg or more in IOP compared with *** regression models were used to analyze the hazard ratios(HRs)among different ***:After PSTA,the mean IOPs from month 1 to month 6 all significantly increased(P<0.05).Ocular hypertension occurred in 30.7%of eyes(median time:8 wk),and severe IOP elevation occurred in 16.2%of eyes(median time:9 wk).Patients receiving PSTA for CRVO or uveitis had a significantly higher risk for ocular hypertension(HR=3.049,P=0.004 for CRVO;HR=5.464,P=0.019 for uveitis)and severe IOP elevation(HR=2.913,P=0.034 for CRVO;HR=7.650,P=0.009 for uveitis).CONCLUSION:IOP significantly increases within 6 mo after PSTA,with the onset of ocular hypertension happening mostly at 2 to 3 *** of CRVO or noninfectious uveitis have a higher risk of ocular hypertension or severe IOP elevation after PSTA and should be monitored for IOP more carefully.

Dynamic event-triggered data-driven iterative learning bipartite tracking control for nonlinear MASs with prescribed performance

This article proposes a distributed dynamic event-triggered data-driven iterative learning control(DET-DDILC)scheme under a predefined performance to tackle the bipartite tracking control problem for multiagent systems(MASs). An improved dynamic linearization technique is utilized to convert the nonlinear MASs into an iterative linear data model. First,a peer-to-peer mapping function is introduced to map the constrained distributed system output homeomorphism to an unconstrained one. In addition, a DET mechanism based on a time-iteration-varying function is devised to conserve network communication resources. Based on the unconstrained transformation and the designed DET mechanism, the DET-DDILC algorithm is devised to ensure that the bipartite tracking performance of MASs can be within the preset range. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the designed control scheme are demonstrated via a simulation case by a comparison.

Hydrogen,a green and sustainable energy source characterized by its abundance,zero emission,and high-volumetric energy density,is widely recognized as the fuel of the future and a crucial driver of the global energy *** exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs),renowned for their high energy conversion efficiency,environmental compatibility,and low noise,have become pivotal in hydrogen energy applications[1,2].As the demand for clean energy increases across various application scenarios,expectations for fuel cells to achieve high output power density,simplified thermal management,and improved tolerance to impurity gases are growing.A promising solution is to increase the operating temperature to develop medium-temperature PEMFCs(MT PEMFCs),which bridges the gap between low-temperature fuel cells and high-temperature phosphoric acid fuel *** approach significantly enhances catalyst activity and theoretically improves electrochemical reaction kinetics[3].Elevated temperatures also reduce heat rejection,leading to simplified thermal management systems,and enhance the catalyst’s resistance to gas impurities such as carbon monoxide,thereby broadening the range of usable hydrogen sources[3].

In pursuit of energy-efficient optical interconnect, the silicon microring modulator（Si-MRM） has emerged as a pivotal device offering an ultra-compact footprint and capability of on-chip wavelength division multiplexing（WDM）. This paper presents a 1 × 4 metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitor（MOSCAP） Si-MRM array gated by high-mobility titanium-doped indium oxide（ITi O）, which was fabricated by combining Intel's high-volume manufacturing process and the transparent conductive oxide（TCO） patterning with the university facility. The 1 × 4 Si-MRM array exhibits a high electro-optic（E-O） efficiency with Vπ· L of 0.12 V · cm and achieves a modulation rate of（3 × 25 + 1 × 15） Gb/s with a measured bandwidth of 14 GHz. Additionally, it can perform on-chip WDM modulation at four equally spaced wavelengths without using thermal heaters. The process compatibility between silicon photonics and TCO materials is verified by such an industry-university co-fabrication approach for the MOSCAP Si-MRM array and demonstrated enhanced performance from heterogeneous integration.

Mode-switching cooperative defense strategy for the orbit pursuit-evasion-defense game

This paper presents a mode-switching collaborative defense strategy for spacecraft pursuit-evasiondefense *** these scenarios,the pursuer tries to avoid the defender while capturing the evader,while the evader and defender form an alliance to prevent the pursuer from achieving its ***,the behavioral modes of the pursuer,including attack and avoidance modes,were established using differential game *** modes are then recognized by an interactive multiple model-matching algorithm(IMM),that uses several smooth variable structure filters to match the modes of the pursuer and update their probabilities in real *** on the linear-quadratic optimization theory,combined with the results of strategy identification,a two-way cooperative optimal strategy for the defender and evader is proposed,where the evader aids the defender to intercept the pursuer by performing luring *** results show that the interactive multi-model algorithm based on several smooth variable structure filters perform well in the strategy identification of the pursuer,and the cooperative defense strategy based on strategy identification has good interception performance when facing pursuers,who are able to flexibly adjust their game objectives.

Interannual variability of boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation over the northwestern Pacific influenced by the Pacific Meridional Mode

During the boreal summer,intraseasonal oscillations exhibit significant interannual variations in intensity over two key regions:the central-western equatorial Pacific(5°S-5°N,150°E-150°W)and the subtropical Northwestern Pacific(10°-20°N,130°E-175°W).The former is well-documented and considered to be influenced by the ENSO,while the latter has received comparatively less attention and is likely influenced by the Pacific Meridional Mode(PMM),as suggested by partial correlation analysis *** elucidate the physical processes responsible for the enhanced(weakened)intraseasonal convection over the subtropical northwestern Pacific during warm(cold)PMM years,the authors employed a moisture budget *** findings reveal that during warm PMM years,there is an increase in summer-mean moisture over the subtropical northwestern *** increase interacts with intensified vertical motion perturbations in the region,leading to greater vertical moisture advection in the lower troposphere and consequently resulting in convective *** a process is pivotal in amplifying intraseasonal convection *** observational findings were further verified by model experiments forced by PMM-like sea surface temperature patterns.
