Temporal and Tissue-Specific Expression of Tomato 14-3-3 Gene Family in Response to Phosphorus Deficiency

Plants adapt to phosphorus （P） deficiency through a complex of biological processes and many genes are involved. Tomato （Solanum lycopersicum L. ＇Hezuo906＇） plants were selected to grown hydroponically to study the temporal and spatial gene expression patterns of the 14-3-3 gene family and their roles in response to P deficiency in tomato plants. Using real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）, we investigated the expression profiles in different tissues （root, stem and leaf） at short-term and long-term P-deficient stress phases. Results revealed that i） four members of 14-3-3 gene family （TFT1, TFT4, TFT6 and TFTT） were involved in the adaptation of tomato plants to P deficiency, ii） TFT7 responded quickly to P deficiency in the root, while TFT6 responded slowly to P deficiency in the leaf, iii） expression response of TFT4 to P-deficient stress was widely distributed in different tissues （root, stem and leaf） while TFT8 only displayed stem-specific expression, and iv） temporal and tissues-specific expression patterns to P deficiency suggested that isoform specificity existed in tomato 14-3-3 gene family. We propose that TFT7 （one member of e-like group in tomato 14-3-3 family） is the early responsive gene and may play a role in the adaptation of tomato plants to shortterm P deficiency, while TFT6 （one member of non-e group in tomato 14-3-3 family） is the later responsive gene and may play a role in the adaptation of tomato plants to long-term P deficiency.

Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana Carrying a Peroxisomal Ascorbate Peroxidase Gene from Barley

Ascorbate peroxidases （APX）, localized in the cytosol, peroxisome, mitochondria, and chloroplasts of plant cells, catalyze the reduction of H2O2 to water by using ascorbic acid as the specific electron donor. To determine the role of peroxisomal type ascorbate peroxidase （pAPX）, an antioxidant enzyme, in protection against salt-induced oxidative stress, transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plant carrying a pAPX gene （HvAPX1） from barley （Hordeum vulgate L.） was analyzed. The transgenic line pAPX3 was found to be more tolerant to salt stress than the wild type. Irrespective of salt stress, there were no significant differences in Na^＋, K^＋, Ca^2＋, and Mg^2＋ contents and the ratio of K^＋ to Na^＋ between pAPX3 and the wild type. Clearly, the salt tolerance in pAPX3 was not due to the maintenance and reestablishment of cellular ion homeostasis. However, the degree of H2O2 and lipid peroxidation （measured as the levels of malondialdehyde） accumulation under salt stress was higher in the wild type than in pAPX3. The mechanism of salt tolerance in transgenic pAPX3 can thus be explained by reduction of oxidative stress injury. Under all conditions tested, activities of superoxide, glutathione reductase, and catalase were not significantly different between pAPX3 and the wild type. In contrast, the activity of APX was significantly higher in the transgenic plant than in wild type under salt stress. These results suggested that in higher plants, HvAPX1 played an important role in salt tolerance and was a candidate gene for developing salttolerant crop plants.

Influence of Nb on Microstructure and Property of Low-Carbon Mn-Series Air-Cooled Bainitic Steel

The effect of Nb on the microstructure evolution of low-carbon Mn-series air cooled bainitic steels has been studied by using thermomeehanical simulation machine, SEM, and TEM observation. The results show that the amount of ferrites is relatively higher in the steel without Nb than that of Nb-bearing steel under same deformation conditions, and the ferrites in Nb-bearing steel are more finer. The mechanical properties of the Nb-bearing steel are higher than those of the steel without Nb at the same finishing rolling temperature （FRT）, and the toughness of the Nb- bearing steel is about 100J higher than that of the steel without Nh at the finishing rolling temperature 750℃. The toughness of Nb microalloyed steel will be improved more effectively than that of the steel without Nb with the decrease of FRT.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of laser beam welded TC4/TA15 dissimilar joints

The microstructure and mechanical properties of laser beam welded dissimilar joints in TC4 and TA15 titanium alloyswere investigated. The results showed that the coarse columnar grains containing a large amount of acicular α and martensite α′ werepresent in the fusion zone (FZ), some residual α phases and martensite structure were formed in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) onTC4 side, and bulk equiaxed α phase of the HAZ was on TA15 side. An asymmetrical microhardness profile across the dissimilarjoint was observed with the highest microhardness in the FZ and the lowest microhardness in TA15 BM. The orders of yield strengthand ultimate tensile strength were as follows: TC4 BM > TC4/TC4 similar joint > TA15 BM > TA15/TA15 similar joint > TC4/TA15dissimilar joint, and increased while hardening capacity and strain hardening exponent decreased with increasing strain rate from1×10?4 s?1 to 1×10?2 s?1. The TC4/TA15 dissimilar joints failed in the TA15 BM, and had characteristics of ductile fracture atdifferent strain rates.

Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor improves impaired colonic motility in experimental colitis mice through connexin 43

BACKGROUND Colonic motility dysfunction is a common symptom of ulcerative colitis(UC),significantly affecting patients’quality of *** suggests that glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF)plays a role in restoring colonic *** To investigate whether GDNF enhances aberrant colonic motility in mice with experimental colitis via connexin 43(Cx43).METHODS An experimental colitis model was induced in male C57BL/6 mice using dextran sodium sulfate(DSS).The measurement of colonic transit time was conducted,and colon tissues were evaluated through transmission electron microscopy and hematoxylin and eosin *** mice were treated with exogenous GDNF and Gap 19,a selective Cx43 *** Cx43 and GDNF levels were detected via immunofluorescence,immunohistochemistry,and real-time polymerase chain *** levels of inflammatory markers,including interleukin-1β,tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-6,and C-reactive protein,were quantified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** Experimental colitis was successfully induced using DSS,and the findings exhibited that the colonic transit time was significantly delayed in colitis mice relative to the UC group(P<0.01).GDNF treatment improved colonic transit time and alleviated intestinal inflammation in DSS-induced colitis mice(P<0.05).In the UC+Gap19+GDNF group,colitis symptoms,colonic transit time,and inflammatory marker levels remained comparable to those in the UC group,indicating that the therapeutic effects of GDNF in UC mice were blocked by Gap *** GDNF improves colonic motility in mice with experimental colitis through a partially Cx43-mediated *** holds promise as a therapeutic option for improving colonic motility in patients with colitis.

Further insights on the secondary metabolites of a soft coral-derived fungus Aspergillus versicolor under the guidance of MS/MS-based molecular networking led to the isolation of seven known cycloheptapeptides,namely,asperversiamides A–C(1–3)and asperheptatides A–D(4–7)and an unusual pyrroloindoline-containing new cycloheptapeptide,asperpyrroindotide A(8).The structure of 8 was elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis,and its absolute configuration was determined by advanced Marfey’s *** semisynthetic transformation of 1 into 8 was successfully achieved and the reaction conditions were ***,a series of new derivatives(10−19)of asperversiamide A(1)was semi-synthesized and their anti-tubercular activities were evaluated against Mycobacterium tuberculosis *** preliminary structure−activity relationships revealed that the serine hydroxy groups and the tryptophan residue are important to the activity.

Localization has become an indispensable function of modern cellular communication systems [1]. In a cloud radio access network(C-RAN), the remote radio head(RRH) is the actual signal transmitter, whose location can assist in wireless network layout optimization and wireless resource management. The measurement of the RRH location can only be done manually on-site due to the lack of global positioning systems(GPS) at the RRH side, which is thus not a cost-effective solution for the widely used C-RAN with a large number of RRH units.
