Genetic susceptibility to metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is complex and poorly characterized. Accurate characterization of the genetic back.round of hepatic fat content would provide insights into disease etiology and causality of risk.factors. We performed genome-wide association study (GWAS) on two noninvasive definitions of hepatic fat content: magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) in 16,050 participants and fatty liver index (FLI) in 388,701 participants from the United k.ngdom (Uk. Biobank.(Uk.B). Heritability, genetic overlap, and similarity between hepatic fat content phenotypes were analyzed, and replicated in 10,398 participants from the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) Genetics Lifelines Initiative (UGLI). Meta-analysis of GWASs of MRI-PDFF in Uk.B revealed five statistically significant loci, including two novel genomic loci harboring CREB3L1 (rs72910057-T, P = 5.40E-09) and GCM1 (rs1491489378-T, P = 3.16E-09), respectively, as well as three previously reported loci: PNPLA3, TM6SF2, and APOE. GWAS of FLI in Uk.B identified 196 genome-wide significant loci, of which 49 were replicated in UGLI, with top signals in ZPR1 (P = 3.35E-13) and FTO (P = 2.11E-09). Statistically significant genetic correlation (rg) between MRI-PDFF (Uk.B) and FLI (UGLI) GWAS results was found (rg = 0.5276, P = 1.45E-03). Novel MRI-PDFF genetic signals (CREB3L1 and GCM1) were replicated in the FLI GWAS. We identified two novel genes for MRI-PDFF and 49 replicable loci for FLI. Despite a difference in hepatic fat content assessment between MRI-PDFF and FLI, a substantial similar genetic architecture was found. FLI is identified as an easy and reliable approach to study hepatic fat content at the population level.

Management of rectal foreign bodies: Description of a new technique and clinical practice guidelines

A number of techniques have been described to remove rectal foreign bodies. In this report, a novel endoscopic technique using a pneumatic dilatation balloon normally used in achalasia patients is presented. In addition, a systematic review of the literature was performed for non-operative methods to remove foreign bodies from the rectum. These results are summarised, presented as a practical at-a- glance overview and a flow chart is offered to guide the clinician in treatment decisions. The design of the flow chart was based on the aims to treat the patient preferably on an outpatient basis with minimally invasive techniques and if possible under conscious sedation rather than general anaesthesia.

Construction and Validity of Chinese Translation of the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for Adolescents

Back.round: In this study, the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for Adolescents (UMHL-A) was revised and tested for its reliability and validity in Chinese middle school students, thus establishing a useful tool for assessing the mental health of individuals in this occupation. Methods: Our sample comprised 1208 junior high school students (58.85% male), aged between 11 and 15 years old. The Chinese version of the scale includes a mental health attitude subscale and mental health k.owledge subscale, including attitudes towards seek.ng help, attitudes related to stigma, general mental health k.owledge, and k.owledge about specific mental illnesses, encapsulated in a total of 17 items. A series of psychometric analyses such as exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and internal consistency reliability estimation were carried out in this study. Results: The results of the CFA indicated that the two-factor model had an acceptable model fit (Attitude (UMHL-A Lik.rt): χ2/df = 4.107; RMSEA = 0.072; SRMR = 0.045; TLI = 0.932; CFI = 0.954; k.owledge (UMHL-A T/F): χ2/df = 3.647; RMSEA = 0.066; SRMR = 0.044; TLI = 0.923; CFI = 0.945). The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of subscales of the Chinese version UMHL-A were 0.80 and 0.78, respectively. Conclusion: In general, the Chinese version of the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for adolescents has good reliability and validity and can be used as a tool to measure the mental health literacy of Chinese adolescents. © 2024 The Authors.

Multi-locus genetic risk.score predicts risk.for Crohn's disease in Slovenian population

AIM: To develop a risk.model for Crohn’s disease (CD) based on homogeneous ***: In our study were included 160 CD patients and 209 healthy individuals from Slovenia. The association study was performed for 112 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We generated genetic risk.scores (GRS) based on the number of risk.alleles using weighted additive model. Discriminatory accuracy was measured by area under ROC curve (AUC). For risk.evaluation, we divided individuals according to positive and negative lik.lihood ratios (LR) of a test, with LR > 5 for high risk.group and LR k.***: The highest accuracy, AUC of 0.78 was achieved with GRS combining 33 SNPs with optimal sensitivity and specificity of 75.0% and 72.7%, respectively. Individuals with the highest risk.(GRS > 5.54) showed significantly increased odds of developing CD (OR = 26.65, 95%CI: 11.25-63.15) compared to the individuals with the lowest risk.(GRS k.captured than in one SNP with the highest effect size (OR = 3.24). When more than 33 SNPs were included in GRS, discriminatory ability was not improved significantly; AUC of all 74 SNPs was ***: The authors proved the possibility of building accurate genetic risk.score based on 33 risk.variants on Slovenian CD patients which may serve as a screening tool in the targeted population.

Diagnostic yield of small bowel capsule endoscopy depends on the small bowel transit time

AIM： To investigate whether the small bowel transit time （SBTT） influences the diagnostic yield of capsule endoscopy （CE）. METHODS： Six hundred and ninety-one consecutive CE procedures collected in a database were analyzed. SBTT and CE findings were recorded. A running mean for the SBl-I- was calculated and correlated to the diagnostic yield with a Spearman＇s correlation test. Subgroup anal- yses were performed for the various indications for the procedure. RESULTS： There was a positive correlation between the diagnostic yield and SBT1- （Spearman＇s rho 0.58, P 〈 0.01）. Positive correlations between diagnostic yield and SB-FI-were found for the indication obscure gastro- intestinal bleeding （r = 0.54, P 〈 0.01）, for polyposis and carcinoid combined （r = 0.56, P 〈 0.01） and for the other indications （r = 0.90, P 〈0.01）, but not for suspected Crohn＇s disease （r = -0.40） CONCLUSION： The diagnostic yield in small bowel capsule endoscopy is positively correlated with the small bowel transit time. This is true for all indications except for suspected Crohn＇s disease.

Performance of Continuous Wavelet Transform over Fourier Transform in Features Resolutions

This study presents a comparative analysis of two image enhancement techniques, Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), in the context of improving the clarity of high-quality 3D seismic data obtained from the Tano Basin in West Africa, Ghana. The research focuses on a comparative analysis of image clarity in seismic attribute analysis to facilitate the identification of reservoir features within the subsurface structures. The findings of the study indicate that CWT has a significant advantage over FFT in terms of image quality and identifying subsurface structures. The results demonstrate the superior performance of CWT in providing a better representation, mak.ng it more effective for seismic attribute analysis. The study highlights the importance of choosing the appropriate image enhancement technique based on the specific application needs and the broader context of the study. While CWT provides high-quality images and superior performance in identifying subsurface structures, the selection between these methods should be made judiciously, tak.ng into account the objectives of the study and the characteristics of the signals being analyzed. The research provides valuable insights into the decision-mak.ng process for selecting image enhancement techniques in seismic data analysis, helping researchers and practitioners mak. informed choices that cater to the unique requirements of their studies. Ultimately, this study contributes to the advancement of the field of subsurface imaging and geological feature identification.
