BACKGROUND Familial idiopathic basal ganglia calcification (FIBGC) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder that causes bilateral calcification of the basal ganglia and/or cerebellar dentate nucleus, among other locations. CASE SUMMARY The aim of this study is to report 10 cases of FIBGC observed in a single family. Seven patients showed calcification on their computed tomography scan, and all of these patients carried the SLC20A2 mutation. However, individuals without the mutation did not show calcification. Three patients among the 7 with calcification were symptomatic, while the remaining 4 patients were asymptomatic. Additionally, we longitudinally observed 10 subjects for ten years. In this paper, we mainly focus on the clinical course and neuroradiological findings in the proband and her *** The accumulation of more case reports and further studies related to the manifestation of FIBGC are needed.

Small sphincterotomy combined with papillary dilation with large balloon permits retrieval of large stones without mechanical lithotripsy

AIM： TO introduce a new method： small endoscopic sphincterotomy （ES） combined with endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation （SES ＋ EPLBD） to treat patients with large biliary stones.METHODS： Retrieval of large biliary stones was performed in 88 patients. Mean stone size was 14 ± 3 mm and mean number of stones was 2.5 ± 3.5. Firstly, ES with a small incision was performed. Next, endoscopic papillary dilation was performed with a large balloon to slowly match the size of the bile duct. Stones were then retrieved from the biliary duct with a balloon and a basket.RESULTS： Stone retrieval was successful in all cases except one cystic duct stone case without the need to crush large stones. Mean procedure time was 30 ± 5 min. Dilating the papillary orifice with a large balloon made it possible to remove large stones smoothly without crushing them. After dilation with the large balloon, there were some instances of oozing, but no perforations. One instance of post-procedural pancreatitis （1%） occurred. CONCLUSION： SES ＋ EPLBD was effective for the retrieval of large biliary stones without the use of mechanical lithotripsy.

On the Predictive Ability of Geomagnetic Disturbances from Solar Wind Measurements at Separated Solar Longitude

In-situ solar wind measurement at a solar longitude separated from the earth in interplanetary space is expected to provide a great progress in practical space weather forecast, which has been confirmed by some recent studies. We introduce geoeffective solar wind conditions in correlation analysis between STEREO and ACE measurements. We sort solar wind data of ACE by using geomagnetic condition, and evaluate actual ability for predicting geoeffective solar wind arrival at ACE from STEREO-A and B solar wind measurement, by assuming simple corotating structures in interplanetary space. The results show that geomagnetic disturbances are more difficult to be predicted than quiet intervals, suggesting that the simple correlation method of solar wind measurement at separated solar longitude is not enough for accurately predicting geomagnetic disturbances, even though the correlation seems generally high. Although in-situ solar wind monitoring at a vantage point trailing behind the earth would definitely improve the prediction capability of solar wind structure arriving at the terrestrial plasma environment, we emphasize that the predictive ability of geoeffective disturbances would still remain low. We suggest that more sophisticated prediction schemes should be developed.

We studied cocrystal of bis(8-quinolinolato) copper(II) (CuQ2) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), which change dramatically crystal shape in a moment by adding press on crystal face. Single crystal was prepared by dissolving CuQ2 and TCNQ in chloroform by evaporation of the solution at ambient conditions. We investigated about crystal structure and morphological change properties. We proclaim that this phenomenon is solid phase transition to Form I from Form II, it is caused by pressure on the crystal face (001) of Form II and the crystal expansion direction is the side face (100). We take note of the common structure between polymorph and explain that this transition occurs by the structure like dominoes falling. We obtained a correlation between molecular level structure change and macroscopic shape changes.
