Analysis of the Impact of the Decline in Crude Oil Imports on the Japanese Economy

In Japan, crude oil use depends almost exclusively on imports, mainly from the Middle East. Therefore, guaranteeing crude oil imports is an important issue for the Japanese energy policy. To analyze the impact of a decrease in crude oil imports, two features of crude oil as an energy good should be taken into consideration, namely being a factor of production in the energy sector and feedstock in petroleum and coal products. This study uses the GTAP and GTAP-E models to evaluate the impact of the decrease in crude oil imports in Japan, applying the same methodology and exogenous values, and analyzes the difference of the simulation results between the two models. In Japan, crude oil is used in two sectors： as feedstock in petroleum and coal products, and as a factor of production in the electricity sector. When energy goods are used as feedstock, the GTAP model, in which energy goods are treated as intermediate inputs with fixed coefficients, is suitable for analysis. The GTAP-E model, which incorporates an energy substitution structure into the GTAP model, is, on the other hand, suitable for analyzing energy goods when they are used as a factor of production. Furthermore, this study uses both a static analysis and an analysis incorporating capital accumulation effects to evaluate short-term, as well as medium to long-term impacts. The simulation results clearly indicate that, in the GTAP-E model, when crude oil imports from the Middle East decrease, Japan attempts to increase its crude oil imports from other regions, but by less than in the case of the GTAP model. The results of this study show that, for energy goods used mainly as feedstock, such as crude oil, analysis with fixed coefficients presents more realistic simulation results than those using the energy substitution structure.

考察了在3种紫外光源(黑光灯、杀菌灯、臭氧灯)的照射下,分别以TiO2与Pd/TiO2为催化剂,甲酸降解过程中过氧化氢的生成机制.研究发现,在黑光灯/催化剂条件下,可在纯水中生成过氧化氢,但当催化剂缺失时几乎不能生成.在黑光灯或杀菌灯照射下,甲酸溶液在有催化剂存在时可被稳定分解,但当催化剂不存在时则分解非常缓慢.对各种光源而言,Pd/TiO2比TiO2催化降解甲酸的效果好.对光源条件的比较发现,甲酸分解速度与过氧化氢生成速度依次为臭氧灯>杀菌灯>黑光灯.结果表明,甲酸光催化分解初速度与过氧化氢生成的初速度呈正比,过氧化氢生成是光催化降解有机物的关键因素.

Skin toxicity predicts efficacy to sorafenib in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM:To study the relationship between adverse events(AEs),efficacy,and nursing intervention for sorafenibtherapy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:We enrolled 37 consecutive patients withadvanced HCC who received sorafenib *** among baseline characteristics as well as AEoccurrence and tumor response,overall survival(OS),and treatment duration were *** nursingintervention program consisted of education regardingself-monitoring and AEs management,and telephoneRESULTS:A total of 37 patients were enrolled in the study,comprising 30 males(81%) with a median age of 71 *** disease control rate at 3 mo was 41%,and the median OS and treatment duration were 259 and 108 d,*** intervention was given to 24 patients(65%).Every patient exhibited some kinds of AEs,but no patients experienced G4 *** observed AEs > G2 included anorexia(57%),skin toxicity(57%),and fatigue(54%).Factors significantly associated with longer OS in multivariate analysis demonstrated that age ≤ 70 years,presence of > G2 skin toxicity,and absence of > G2 *** disease control rate in patients with > G2 skin toxicity was 13/20(65%),which was significantly higher compared with that in patients with no or G1 skin *** analysis revealed that nursing intervention and > G2 skin toxicity were independent significant predictors for longer treatment ***:Skin toxicity was associated with favorable outcomes with sorafenib therapy for advanced *** intervention contributed to better adher-ence,which may improve the efficacy of sorafenib.

Remoras are commensal fish of various marine species,such as sharks,swordfishes,turtles,dolphins,manta rays and *** specimen of marlin sucker Remora osteochir was evaluated using computed tomography for skeletal digital reconstruction,digital radiology for general evaluation and bone counting,and the double contrast technique to distinguish coelomic *** radiographic images,it was possible to observe otoliths in the center of the neurocranium,to count 27 vertebrae,nine pairs of ribs,and to detect the presence of the hipural and epural bones near of the caudal *** double contrast images,it was possible to visualize the swim bladder,gills,heart,liver,stomach and *** the tomographic images and reconstructions,it was possible to identify the intercalar bones of the cephalic disc;the spine with vertebral bodies composed of neural arches and ventral ribs;and the pectoral girdle formed by posttemporal,cleithrum and scapulocoracoid *** was concluded that digital radiology and computed tomography were able to describe anatomical structures of marlin sucker *** without the need for dissection.

Because of its ability to effectively suppress off-leakage current with its gate-around conffguration, the Si nanowire FET is considered to be the ultimate structure for ultra-small CMOS devices to the extent that the devices would be approaching their downsized limits. Recently, several experimental studies of Si nanowire FETs with on-currents much larger than those of planar MOSFETs have been published. Consequently, Si nanowire FETs are now gaining significant attention as the most promising candidate for mainstream CMOS devices in the 2020s. To enable the introduction of the Si nanowire FETs into integrated circuits, good compact models, which circuit designers can easily handle, are essential. However, it is a very challenging task to establish such a compact model, because the ID - VD characteristics of Si nanowire FETs are affected by the band structure of the nanowire, which is very sensitive to the nanowire diameter, cross-sectional shape, crystal orientation, mechanical stress and interface states. In this paper, the recent status of research on Si nanowire FETs in experimental and theoretical studies is described.

Effect of Abnormal Posture on Quality of Life in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

Background: Relationship between abnormal posture and QOL of Parkinson's disease is not clear. Objectives: To clarify the association between quality of life (QOL) and abnormal posture in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and examine which QOL dimensions are involved. Methods: This study retrospectively examined PD patients (n = 57) who had undergone outpatient rehabilitation between January and March 2014. Evaluation items were Modified Hoehn Yahr (H-Y) stage, Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS)-Part III score, Timed Up and Go test (TUG, 3-m walking) result, Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ)-39 score, and the angle of forward and lateral trunk flexion in the standing position. Statistical analysis was performed to reveal the relationship between the total PDQ-39 score and individual evaluation items and which QOL dimensions were affected by abnormal posture due to forward or lateral flexion. Results: A total of 38 PD patients (17 men, 21 women;mean age, 73.2 ± 8.6 years) were enrolled. Among the evaluation items, lateral flexion angle showed a significant correlation with the total PDQ-39 score (r = 0.422, P = 0.008). PDQ-39 dimensions showing an association with forward flexion were activities of daily living (ADL) (P = 0.002) and communication (P = 0.007), whereas ADL (P = 0.004), communication (P = 0.021), and social support (P = 0.029) were associated with lateral flexion. Mobility was not associated with forward or lateral flexion. Conclusion: The present findings revealed a correlation between lateral flexion and QOL in PD patients. Among the PDQ-39 dimensions, ADL and communication were associated with abnormal posture.
