Improved and sustainable agroecosystem, food security andenvironmental resilience through zero tillage with emphasis on soilsof temperate and subtropical climate regions: A review

Tillage is one of the agricultural management practices that significantly impacts agroecosystems,crop production,and the *** tillage(CT)practices alter the soil environment and induce organic constituents’decomposition and the emission of greenhouse gases(GHGs),which contribute to the greenhouse effect and global *** organic matter,biological diversity,aggregate stability,high erosion and degradation of the soil environment,and sequestration strength are additional factors associated with CT,which negatively affect food security and environmental *** a result,CT is no more beneficial in the long run;consequently,zero tillage(ZT)could be a viable candidate for sustainable *** review to establish this systematically compared and summarized the effect of tillage systems(*** and ZT)by synthesizing and interpreting published data(>150 peer-reviewed articles)with>200 observations on soil ecosystem services and properties/agroecosystem,crop yield/food security,GHG emission,and carbon sequestration/environmental *** review established that ZT improves soil structure,aggregate stability,biological diversity,organic matter and nutrients,water and water use efficiency,and reduces soil degradation,erosion,tillage machinery impacts,and GHG *** allows timely seeding and better crop growth,increases yield and food security,improves carbon sequestration,strengthens soil storage potential,and helps to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on environmental *** on various latent direct and indirect benefits,resource-saving ability,and broad adoption scope of ZT,it is corroborated that ZT is a practical and potential approach for improved and sustainable agroecosystem,food security,and environmental resilience.

The availability of on-farm storage and processing is a critical challenge facing small farmers,which hinders agricultural *** per cent of the food produced globally is lost after harvest,with the proportion being exceptionally high in low-and middle-income countries due to a lack of on-farm handling and storage *** cold-storage solutions have not taken off at the smallholder level,mainly due to a lack of availability and access to reliable grid ***,off-grid decentralized solar-powered cold-storage units can play a vital role in preserving the produce at production sites and enhancing livelihood and rural development with a minimal carbon *** maintain low temperatures at every step of the agricultural value chain,known as the‘cold chain’,several technology vendors aim to improve the shelf life and user ***-scale farmers,which account for two-thirds of all food losses,are another group they focus *** study examines the existing situation,importance and potential opportunities of decentralized cold-storage systems for fresh fruit and *** addition to economic,social,technological and environmental limitations,this study examines the triumphs and challenges of incorporating solar-energy-powered cold storage into developing *** the private sector,NGOs and some government agencies are working to promote decentralized cold-storage facilities,relatively little has been done so far to have a significant influence on post-harvest losses and food *** are still knowledge gaps on decentralized cold-storage *** primary operational constraint is the economic situation of end users and the lack of financing alternatives for smallholder farmers.

Plant trichomes vary in their structure and cellular *** trichomes contain a bulk of specific(secondary)metabolites of diverse *** are connected with various adaptive processes,which include protection against herbivores and pathogens as *** study investigates the allelopathic contribution of structures present on the leaf surface of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia *** seedling growth of Cicer arietinum *** infusion obtained after dipping Nicotiana leaves in Dichloromethane(DCM)for 10 seconds(s)was the most phytotoxic among all the *** observed inhibition in Cicer growth was not only dependent on type of infusion but also the *** electron microscopy of the leaf samples showed the modifications in trichomes under the influence of the different concentration of *** trichomes were most dehydrated at 10 seconds in DCM,suggesting their role for the observed *** study on the biochemistry of trichomes and their phytotoxicity may develop highly valuable objects for plant metabolic engineering.

Tool wear mechanisms in the machining of Nickel based super-alloys： A review

Nickel based super-alloys are widely employed in aircraft engines and gas turbines due to their high temperature strength, corrosion resistance and, excellent thermal fatigue properties. Conversely, these alloys are very difficult to machine and cause rapid wear of the cutting tool, frequent tool changes are thus required resulting in low economy of the machining process. This study provides a detailed review of the t0ol wear mechanism in the machining of nickel based super-alloys. Typical tool wear mechanisms found by different researchers are analyzed in order to find out the most prevalent wear mechanism affecting the tool life. The review of existing works has revealed interesting findings about the tool wear mechanisms in the machining of these alloys. Adhesion wear is found to be the main phenomenon leading to the cutting tool wear in this study.

Effect of bacterial intra-species community interactions on the production and activity of volatile organic compounds

Microorganisms experience intra-and inter-species interactions in the soil,and how these interactions affect the production of microbial volatile organic compounds(VOCs)is still not *** we evaluated the production and activity of microbial VOCs as driven by bacterial intra-species community *** set up bacterial communities of increasing biodiversity out of 1–4 strains each of the Gram-positive Bacillus and Gram-negative Pseudomonas *** evaluated the ability of each community to provide two VOCmediated services,pathogen suppression and plant-growth promotion and then correlated these services to the production of VOCs by each *** results showed that an increase in community richness from 1 to 4 strains of both genera increased VOC-mediated pathogen suppression and plant-growth promotion on agar medium and in the soil,which was positively correlated with the production of pathogen suppressing and plant growth-promoting *** strains maintained while Bacillus strains reduced community productivity with an increase in community richness and produced eight novel VOCs compared with the *** results revealed that intra-species interactions may vary between Gram-negative and Gram-positive species but improved VOC-mediated functioning with respect to pathogen suppression and plant-growth promotion by affecting the amount and diversity of produced VOCs potentially affecting plant disease outcomes.

Fabrication of NiO coated SiO_2 and SiO_2 coated NiO for the removal of Pb^(2+) ions

We have prepared silica,SiO2coated NiO and NiO coated SiO2by sol-gel *** physicochemical properties of the desired materials were investigated by surface charge properties,scanning electron microscopy（SEM）,energy dispersive X-ray（EDX） spectroscopy,surface area measurements and X-ray diffraction（XRD） *** point of zero charge（PZC） of the solid was determined by the salt addition *** coated materials,two PZC values were noted representing the surface charge of their *** SEM image of SiO2coated NiO displays a uniform coating of silica on the surface of NiO whereas in case of NiO coated SiO2,a honeycomb like appearance was observed with highly porous *** the diffractograms of NiO,the characteristic peaks were suppressed in NiO coated silica however,no diffraction peak could be seen in SiO2coated *** adsorption technique was applied for the removal of Pb2＋ions from aqueous *** sorption trend for Pb2＋ions was observed in the order of NiO coated SiO2〉 SiO2coated NiO 〉 NiO 〉 *** trend confirms that the coated materials have more sorption capacities than their parent counterparts.

Toward stable photoelectrochemical water splitting using NiOOH coated hierarchical nitrogen-doped ZnO-Si nanowires photoanodes

Photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is regarded as the most promising method to generate“green hydrogen”,and zinc oxide(ZnO)has been identified as one of the promising candidates for PEC water splitting owing to its straddling band alignment with the water redox ***,its PEC performance is limited due to its wide bandgap and anticipated by photocorrosion in an aqueous *** this work,we present strategic improvements in the PEC water splitting performance of ZnO nanowires(NWs)by nitrogen(N)-doping along with photostability by the core–shell deposition of a NiOOH *** crystalline hierarchical ZnO NWs were fabricated on Si NWs(ZnO-Si HNWs)using a metal organic chemical vapor deposition *** NWs were then N-doped by annealing in an NH_(3) *** N-doped ZnO-Si HNWs(N:ZnO-Si HNWs)showed enhanced visible light absorption,and suppressed recombination of the photogenerated *** compared to ZnO-Si HNWs(0.045 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE),the N:ZnO-Si HNWs(0.34 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE)annealed in NH^(3) ambient for 3 h at 600℃showed 7.5-fold enhancement in the photocurrent ***-deposited N:ZnO-Si HNW photoanodes with a photostability of 82.21%over 20000 s showed 10.69-fold higher photocurrent density(0.48 m A cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs RHE)than ZnO-Si HNWs.

Dietary encapsulated essential oils and organic acids mixture improves gut health in broiler chickens challenged with necrotic enteritis

Background:The poultry industry is in need of effective antibiotic alternatives to control outbreaks of necrotic enteritis(NE)due to Clostridium *** the present study,we investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with a blend of encapsulated essential oils and organic acids(BLJ)on growth performance and gut health using a coinfection model of NE in broiler ***:Two hundred and eighty-eight one-day-old male Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly assigned using a 2×2 factorial design into two groups fed either 0 or 500 mg/kg dietary BLJ and co-challenged(or not challenged for the control)with Eimeria spp./***:Infected birds fed the BLJ-supplemented diet exhibited an improved feed conversion ratio throughout the trial(P<0.01),a higher villus height and villus height/crypt depth ratio,and reduced intestinal *** counts,liver *** carriage,gut lesion scores and serum fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran(FITC-D)concentrations at 7 d postinfection compared with those of birds without BLJ supplementation(P<0.05).NE-infected birds fed BLJ exhibited significantly upregulated claudin-1 and IGF-2 mRNA levels(P<0.05),increased A20 mRNA expression and significantly downregulated TRAF-6,TNFSF15 and TOLLIP mRNA levels in the jejunum at 7 d post-infection compared with those in birds without BLJ supplementation(P<0.05).Compared with the uninfected and untreated birds,the uninfected birds fed BLJ displayed increased relative abundances of Lactobacillus and Coprococcus but reduced Rikenellaceae *** with the unsupplemented NE-challenged birds,infected birds fed BLJ showed an increased relative abundance of Unclassified_Lachnospiraceae and a significantly decreased relative abundance of ***:BLJ supplementation improved growth performance and gut health in NE-infected broiler chickens by strengthening the intestinal barrier function,positively modulating the gut microbiota community
