The Tribbles(TrIB) family of pseudokinase proteins has been shown to play key roles in cell cycle, metabolic diseases, chronic inflammatory disease, and cancer development. A better understanding of the mechanisms of TrIB pseudokinases could provide new insights for disease development and help promote TrIB proteins as novel therapeutic targets for drug discovery. At the 2 nd International Symposium on Tribbles and Diseases held on May 7–9, 2018 in Beijing, China, a group of leading Tribbles scientists reported their findings and ongoing studies about the effects of the different TrIB proteins in the areas of immunity, metabolism, fundamental cell biology and cancer. Here, we summarize important and insightful overviews from 4 keynote lectures, 13 plenary lectures and 8 short talks that took place during this meeting. These findings may offer new insights for the understanding of the roles of TrIB pseudokinases in the development of various diseases.

Giant duodenal ulcers （GDUs） are a subset of duodenal ulcers that have historically resulted in greater morbidity than usual duodenal ulcers. Until recently, few cases had been successfully treated with medical therapy. However, the widespread use of endoscopy, the introduction of H-2 receptor blockers and proton p^Jmp inhibitors, and the improvement in surgical techniques all have revolutionized the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of this condition. Nevertheless, GDUs are still associated with high rates of morbidity, mortality and complications. Thus, surgical evaluation of a patient with a GDU should remain an integral part of patient care. These giant variants, while usually benign, can frequently harbor malignancy. A careful review of the literature highlights the important differences when comparing GDUs to classical peptic ulcers and why they must be thought of differently than their more common counterpart.

Artificial intelligence for pancreatic cancer detection: recent development and future direction

＜正＞resistance spot welding （rSW） is one of the major joining techniques widely used for car body assembly. Weld quality may significantly influence the durability and reliability of the automobile body. Automotive manufacturers often rely on destructive testing and monitoring variables indirectly reflected weld quality to assess the weld quality and to control the welding process. However, these approaches have inherent limitations and are difficult to be implemented in plant environments. Therefore, it is imperative to develop an on-line inspection method to evaluate weld quality. In this study, a method of producing a series of substantially uniform spot welds between two metal parts using a servomotor driven movable electrode and an axially opposing fixed electrode is proposed. The indentation in the workpiece surface is suitably measured by the displacement of the movable electrode as it applies an electrode force and welding current is passed through the weld site of the workpiece. The optimal indentation range is determined by peel test and metallographic examinations with respect to various sheet gages and grades. Consequently, on-line weld quality inspection results are achieved based on developed optimal indentation range.

Background:To examine the baseline morphological characteristics and alterations in intraretinal microvascular abnormalities(IrMAs)in response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)treatment,documented by optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in diabetic ***:In this retrospective study,IrMAs were evaluated with multimodal imaging(fundus photography,fluorescein angiography,OCTA)in treatment-naïve diabetic eyes before and after anti-VEGF treatment for diabetic macular edema(DME)and/or proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDr)and compared to diabetic control eyes with similar diabetic retinopathy(Dr)severity that did not receive anti-VEGF *** morphological characteristics of IrMAs on enface OCTA imaging were graded by masked readers at baseline,then after anti-VEGF therapy in treated eyes or after observation in control *** of interval changes in an IrMA were based on the following parameters:branching,vessel caliber and area of adjacent capillary ***:The treated group included 45 IrMA foci from 15 eyes of 11 patients,while the control group included 27 IrMA foci from 15 eyes of 14 *** anti-VEGF treatment,enface OCTA demonstrated that 14 foci of IrMA(31%)demonstrated regression with normalization of appearance of the capillary bed,20 IrMAs(44%)remained unchanged,six IrMAs(13%)progressed with enlargement or development of new IrMAs and five IrMAs(11%)demonstrated complete obliteration defined as IrMA disappearance with advancing capillary *** the control group,17 IrMA(63%)remained stable,8 IrMAs(29.6%)progressed and 2 experienced total obliteration(7.4%).The difference in rank order between the two groups was statistically significant(p=0.022).Conclusions:In eyes with Dr status post anti-VEGF therapy,foci of IrMAs have a variable course demonstrating one of four possible outcomes:regression,stabilit,progression or complete *** contrast,none of the untreated contr
