Molecular evolution of stress-response gene Leptin in high-altitude Chinese snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus genus)

Chinese snub-nosed monkeys (genus Rhinopithecus, subfamily Colobinae), including R. bieti, R. brelichi and R. roxellana, are well-known as the non-human primates with the highest known altitudinal distribution. They represent an interesting model organism of adaptation to the extreme environmental stresses. However, no study at the molecular level has yet been reported for the high-altitude adaptation in Chinese snub-nosed monkeys. Leptin, as an adipocyte-derived hormone, is believed to play an important role in energy homeostasis in adaptation to high altitude environments. In the present study, we sequenced and compared leptin sequences of the Chinese snub-nosed monkeys (R. bieti and R. roxellana) with their lowland close relative R. avunculus and other Colobines. Unexpectedly, no amino acid changes were observed in the 7 Colobinae species examined, including the 2.Chinese snub-nosed monkeys, indicating no difference in the evolutionary pattern of the Leptin gene between high-altitude monkeys and their lowland counterparts. In contrast to a previous finding of adaptive evolution of Leptin gene in plateau pikas, our study suggests that this gene may not have an important role in high-altitude adaptation of Chinese snub-nosed monkeys. Other nuclear genes associated with energy metabolism, or mitochondrial genes, are most likely to be involved the molecular mechanism underlying adaptation of these monkeys to cold and hypoxia associated with the highland environment.

Mitochondrial disease currently received an increasing concern. However, the case-control design commonly adopted in this field is vulnerable to genetic background, population stratification and poor data quality. Although the phylogenetic analysis could help solve part of these problems, it has not received adequate attention. This paper is a review of this method as well as its application in mito- chondrial disease study.

Comparative genomic analysis reveals more functional nasal chemoreceptors in nocturnal mammals than in diurnal mammals

Natural selection has a critical role in the diversity of morphological ***,the genetic basis underlying the evolution and diversity of morphological characteristics,particularly in the context an organism's behavior,lifestyle,and environment,is not well *** discovery of nasal chemoreceptors in mammals provided an opportunity to address this ***,we identify 4 nasal chemoreceptor gene families(V1R,V2.,OR,and TAAR)from horse,guinea pig,marmoset and orangutan genome sequences,*** with previously described mammalian nasal chemoreceptor gene repertoires,we found a significant positive correlation between functional gene number and morphological complexity,both in the main olfactory system and the vomeronasal *** combined analysis of morphological data,behavioral data,and gene repertoires suggests that nocturnal mammals tend to possess more species-specific chemoreceptor genes and more complicated olfactory organs than diurnal ***,analysis of evolutionary forces revealed the existence of positive selection on the species-specific genes,likely reflecting the species-specific detection of odors and *** together,these results reflect a rare case of adaptation to circadian rhythm activity at the genome scale,and strongly suggest that the complexity of morphological olfactory organs and the diversification of nasal chemoreceptors in nocturnal mammals are under selection for the ability to perceive the variety of odors that nocturnal mammals may encounter in their particular dark environments.

The Yangtze River is the mother river of *** promote the aquatic ecosystem protection of the great river,the Project of Yangtze Fisheries resources and Environment Investigation(2.17-2.2.)supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs,*** carried out by 2. institutes and universities that located in the Yangtze River basin surveys the status of(1)fish species composition and spatial distribution,(2.current fish abundance,(3)endangered fishes,(4)Yangtze finless porpoise,(5)aquatic eco-environments,(6)water-level fluctuation areas,(7)capture fisheries and recreational fisheries of the Yangtze River mainstream and 10 of its main tributaries,including Yalong River,Heng River,Min River(including Dadu River),Chishui River,Tuo River,Jialing River,Wu River,Han River,Dongting Lake and Poyang *** results showed that there were 443 fish species(belonging to 163 genus,37 families,and 18 orders)before 2.17,but only 32. fish species(including 15 new recorded exotic species)were recorded in the project of *** them,Cyprinus carpio,Carassius auratus,Hypophthalmichthys molitrix,Pelteobagrus fulvidraco,Coilia brachygnathus,Silurus asotus,Saurogobio dabryi,Ctenopharyngodon idellus,Pelteobagrus nitidus,Hemiculter leucisculus,Siniperca chuatsi,Coreius heterodon,Culter alburnus,Parabramis pekinensis,and Aristichthys nobilis were the dominant species across the whole Yangtze River *** is estimated that there were 886 million individuals weighing 12..8 million kg,merely equivalent to 2..3%of the resources in 1950s,30.9%of the resources in 1960s,or 58.7%of the resources in *** the new list of protected fishes that recorded in the Yangtze River system,only 15 of 2. were collected in this project of *** gladius has been affirmed to be Extinct by International Union for conservation of Nature(IUCN).The wild individuals of Tenualosa reevesii and Luciobrama macrocephalus have disappeared for many years and maybe have been extinct

The phylogenetic relationships of European and African Barbus and their West Asian relatives in Cyprininae remain largely ***,little is known about the drivers of their evolution,including the possible association of uplifting of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP)with the early divergence of the *** use complete sequence data of the mitochondrial DNA gene encoding the protein cytochrome b(Cytb)to hypothesize the phylogeny of 85 species belonging to 47 genera in the Cyprininae plus 6 species from the *** employ 6 other species from Cypriniformes as outgroup taxa and estimate divergence *** results indicate that European Barbus sensu stricto lineage including Aulopyge shares a common ancestor with specialized and highly specialized schizothoracins and the genera Cyprinion and *** common ancestor appears to have originated in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP)region about 19.4–17.8 *** sensu stricto lineage appears to have originated about 16.6–15.5 *** to medium sized African Barbus sensu lato appear to have had an Oriental origin about 19.1–15.3 Ma and are closely related to Asian *** Asian Carasobarbus lineage including large African Barbus sensu lato might have originated about 9.94 Ma,also in Oriental Realm and has a close relationship to Asian Neolissochilus and *** large-sized Barbus sensu lato appear to have diverged from Carasobarbus about 7.7 ***,the Cyprininae appear to have radiated rapidly into nine lineages and many sublineages from about 2..8 to 17.8 Ma,close to the time of the second-stage tectonic movements of the *** analyses provide evidence that the uplifting of the QTP drove early diversification of the *** extensive sampling of species involving all of the important areas results in clear evolutionary scenario for the Cyprininae.

A Positive Correlation between Elevated Altitude and Frequency of Mutant Alleles at the EPAS1 and HBB Loci in Chinese Indigenous Dogs

Hypoxia represents one of the most extreme environmental conditions for both human beings and animals living at high al- titudes （Zhao et al., 2.09）. Over the past few years, great attention has been focused on the genetic bases of adaption to high-altitude environments （Bigham et al., 2.10; Simonson et al., 2.10）. The domestic dog （Canisfamiliaris） is the first animal that developed an intimate relationship with human beings. Dogs migrated with human beings and have adapted to variety of ecological niches （Savolainen et al., 2.02.. Our previous research revealed parallel evolution and convergent evolution in the adaptation of dogs and humans to the high-altitude environment of the Tibetan plateau （{2. et al., 2.13, 2.14）, suggesting that exploring the adaption of domestic dogs to high-altitude hypoxia is an interesting and important question.

从土地类型结构、土地资源结构、土地空间结构和土地利用现状结构入手,对安塞县土地结构进行分析研究。结果显示:土地类型以梁坡和沟坡地为主,二者占全县总土地面积的80 53%;土地总体质量不佳,质量最好的川、沟台地仅占总土地面积的2.61%;土地类型的空间分布表现出明显的层状、镶嵌状和空间上的不均匀性;土地利用率高,开发潜力小:耕地面积占总土地面积的40 02.,林地占总土地面积的14 90%,其中郁闭度>35%的天然林地仅占总土地面积的9 31%;牧草地占总土地面积的31 39%,而90%以上牧草地覆盖率都小于30%。反映出安塞县土地结构处于极不稳定状态,急需因地制宜,充分、合理地开发、利用和调整,以保证其土地结构向好的方向发展。

The fall armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda,is a destructive pest native to America and has recently become an invasive insect pest in *** of its rapid spread and great risks in china,understanding of FAW genetic background and pesticide resistance is urgent and essential to develop effective management ***,we assembled a chromosome-level genome of a male FAW(SFynMstLFR)and compared re-sequencing results of the populations from America,Africa,and *** identification of 163 individuals collected from America,Africa and china showed that both C and R strains were found in the American pop-ulations,while only C strain was found in the Chinese and African ***,population geno-mics analysis showed that populations from Africa and china have close relationship with significantly genetic differentiation from American *** toge-ther,FAWs invaded into china were most likely origi-nated from *** genomics analysis displayed that the cytochrome p450 gene family is extremely expanded to 42. members in FAW,of which 2.3 genes are specific to *** of Chinese populations with twenty-three pesticides showed the variant patterns of transcriptome profiles,and several detoxification genes such as AOX,UGT and GST spe-cially responded to the *** findings will be useful in developing effective strategies for manage-ment of FAW in china and other invaded areas.
