Antimicrobial peptides act on the rumen the performance of castrated bulls

Background Many countries have already banned the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry,making it extremely difficult to maintain animal health in livestock *** the livestock industry,there is an urgent need to develop alternatives to antibiotics which will not lead to drug resistance on prolonged *** this study,eighteen castrated bulls were randomly divided into two *** control group(CK)was fed the basal diet,while the antimicrobial peptide group(AP)was fed the basal diet supplemented with 8 g of antimicrobial peptides in the basal diet for the experimental period of 270 *** were then slaughtered to measure production performance,and the ruminal contents were isolated for metagenomic and metabolome sequencing *** The results showed that antimicrobial peptides could improve the daily weight,carcass weight,and net meat weight of the experimental ***,the rumen papillae diameter and the micropapillary density in the AP were significantly greater than those in the ***,the determination of digestive enzymes and fermentation parameters showed that the contents of protease,xylanase,andβ-glucoside in the AP were greater than those in the ***,lipase content in the CK was greater than that in the ***,the content of acetate,propionate,butyrate,and valerate was found to be greater in AP than those in *** metagenomic analysis annotated 1993 differential microorganisms at the species *** KEGG enrichment of these microorganisms revealed that the enrichment of drug resistance-related pathways was dramatically decreased in the AP,whereas the enrichment of immune-related pathways was significantly *** was also a significant reduction in the types of viruses in the AP.187 probiotics with significant differences were found,135 of which were higher in AP than in *** was also found that the antimicrobial mechanism of the antimicrobial peptides was quite *** low-abundance microor

Control of Bird Feeding Behavior by Tannin1 through Modulating the Biosynthesis of Polyphenols and Fatty Acid-Derived Volatiles in Sorghum

Bird predation during seed maturation causes great loss to agricultural *** this study,through GWAS analysis of a large-scale sorghum germplasm diversity panel,we identified that Tannin1,which encodes a WD40 protein functioning in the WD40/MYB/bHLH complex,controls bird feeding behavior in *** profiling analysis showed that a group of sorghum accessions preferred by birds contain mutated tan1-a/b alleles and accumulate significantly lower levels of anthocyanins and condensed tannin *** contrast,a variety of aromatic and fatty acid-derived volatiles accumulate at significantly higher levels in these bird-preference *** subsequently conducted both sparrow feeding and sparrow volatile attractant assays,which confirmed,respectively,the antifeedant and attractant functions of these differentially accumulated *** addition,the connection between the biosynthesis pathway of anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin and the pathway of fatty acid–derived volatile biosynthesis was demonstrated by discovering that Tannin1 complex modulates fatty acid biosynthesis by regulating the expression of SbGL2 in sorghum,thus affecting the accumulation of fatty acid-derived *** together,our study identified Tannin1 as the gene underlying the major locus controlling bird feeding behavior in sorghum,illustrating an example of the identification of an ecologically impactful molecular mechanism from field observation and providing significant insights into the chemistry of bird–plant ecological interactions.

In this study, a point-scattering approach to the plane-wave optical transmission of subwavelength metal nanoslit arrays with varying angles of rotation and that of subwavelength metal supercell arrays consisting of nanoslits capable of various angles of rotation is *** is demonstrated that the suggested theories show good agreement with the simulations and experiments. The results show that constructive and destructive interference at each nanoslit can respectively enhance and suppress the surface plasmon polariton (SPP) far-field radiation of a metasurface. The proposed theory can predict the quantity and resonant wavelength of SPPs and provide a design scheme for an SPP device.

Iron-induced 3D nanoporous iron-cobalt oxyhydroxide on carbon cloth as a highly efficient electrode for oxygen evolution reaction

The development of highly efficient and cost-effective electrode materials for catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is crucial for water splitting *** increase in the number of active sites by tuning the morphology and structure and the enhancement of the reactivity of active sites by the incorporation of other components are the two main strategies for the enhancement of their catalytic *** this study,by combining these two strategies,a unique three-dimensional nanoporous Fe-Co oxyhydroxide layer coated on the carbon cloth(3D-FeCoOOH/CC)was successfully synthesized by in situ electro-oxidation methods,and directly used as a working *** electrode,3D-FeCoOOH/CC,was obtained by the Fe doping process in(NH4)2Fe(SO4)2,followed by continuous in situ electro-oxidization in alkaline medium of“micro go chess piece”arrays on the carbon cloth(MCPAs/CC).Micro characterizations illustrated that the go pieces of MCPAs/CC were completely converted into a thin conformal coating on the carbon cloth *** electrochemical test results showed that the as-synthesized 3D-FeCoOOH/CC exhibited enhanced activity for OER with a low overpotential of 259 mV,at a current density of 10 mA cm^–2,and a small Tafel slope of 34.9 mV dec^–1,as well as superior stability in 1.0 mol L^–1 KOH *** extensive analysis revealed that the improved electrochemical surface area,conductivity,Fe-Co bimetallic composition,and the unique 3D porous structure together contributed to the enhanced OER activity of 3D-FeCoOOH/***,the synthetic strategy applied in this study could be extended to fabricate a series of Co-based electrode materials with the dopant of other transition elements.

The virus SARS-CoV2,which causes the Coronavirus disease COVID-19 has become a pandemic and has spread to every inhabited *** the increasing caseload,there is an urgent need to augment clinical skills in order to identify from among the many mild cases the few that will progress to critical *** present a first step towards building an artificial intelligence(AI)framework,with predictive analytics(PA)capabilities applied to real patient data,to provide rapid clinical decision-making ***-19 has presented a pressing need as a)clinicians are still developing clinical acumen given the disease’s novelty,and b)resource limitations in a rapidly expanding pandemic require difficult decisions relating to resource *** objectives of this research are:(1)to algorithmically identify the combinations of clinical characteristics of COVID-19 that predict outcomes,and(2)to develop a tool with AI capabilities that will predict patients at risk for more severe illness on initial *** predictive models learn from historical data to help predict specifically who will develop acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS),a severe outcome in *** experimental results based on two hospitals in Wenzhou,Zhejang,China identify features most predictive of ARDS in COVID-19 initial presentation which would not have stood out to clinicians.A mild increase in elevated alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(a liver enzyme)),a presence of myalgias(body aches),and an increase in hemoglobin,in this order,are the clinical features,on presentation,that are the most *** two centers’COVID-19 case series symptoms on initial presentation can help predict severe *** models that learned from historical data of patients from two Chinese hospitals achieved 70%to 80%accuracy in predicting severe cases.

Trends in disease burden of hepatitis B infection in Jiangsu Province,China,1990-2021

Background:The incidence of hepatitis B virus(HBV)has decreased year by year in China after the expansion of vaccination,but there is still a high disease burden in Jiangsu Province of ***:The year-by-year incidence data of HBV in Jiangsu Province from 1990 to 2021 were *** incidence rates of males and females age groups were clustered by systematic clustering,and the incidence rates of each age group were analyzed and studied by using Joinpoint regression model and age-period-cohort effect model(APC).Results:Joinpoint regression model and APC model showed a general decrease in HBV prevalence in both males and *** addition,the results of the APC model showed that the age,period,and cohort effects of patients all affected the incidence of HBV,and the incidence was higher in males than in *** incidence is highest in the population between the ages of 15 and 30 years(mean:21.76/100,000),especially in males(mean:31.53/100,000)than in females(mean:11.67/100,000).Another high-risk group is those over 60 years of age(mean:21.40/100,000),especially males(mean:31.17/100,000)than females(mean:11.63/100,000).The period effect of the APC model suggests that HBV vaccination is effective in reducing the incidence of HBV in the ***:The incidence of HBV in Jiangsu Province showed a gradual downward trend,but the disease burden in males was higher than that in *** incidence is higher and increasing rapidly in the population between the ages of 15 and 30 years and people over 60 years of *** targeted prevention and control measures should be imple-mented for males and the elderly.

Urea and oxalic acid are critical component in various chemical manufacturing ***,achieving simultaneous generation of urea and oxalic acid in a continuous-flow electrolyzer is a ***,we report a continuous-flow electrolyzer equipped with 9-square centime-ter-effective area gas diffusion electrodes(GDE)which can simultaneously catalyze the glycerol oxidation reaction in the anode region and the reduction reaction of CO_(2) and nitrate in the cathode region,producing oxalic acid and urea at both the anode and cathode,*** current density at low cell voltage(0.9 V)remained above 18.7 mA cm^(-2) for 10 consecutive electrolysis cycles(120 h in total),and the Faraday efficiency of oxalic acid(67.1%) and urea(70.9%)did not *** and theoretical studies show that in terms of the formation of C-N bond at the cathode,Pd-sites can provide protons for the hydrogenation process of CO_(2) and NO_(3)^(-),Cu-sites can promote the generation of *COOH and Bi-sites can stabilize **** addition,in terms of glycerol oxidation,the introduction of Cu and Bi into Pd metallene promotes the oxidation of hydroxyl groups and the cleavage of C-C bond in glycerol molecules,respectively.

Fluorine in drinking water and urine in the urban and rural areas of northwestern China——Its determination by a fluoride ion selective electrode

In this study, the author determined fluorine in drinking water and urine of residents who are divided into four age groups (5, 12, 35-44, 65-74 aged), living in Huangling City, Shaanxi Province and at 6 villages of Qin'an County, Gansu Province, ***. Some residents are living in fluorine exposure areas. A total of 929 residents (463 females and 466 males) involved in the study were selected from 7 tap water systems. Drinking water samples were collected from each area and analyzed using the fluoride ion-selective method. No positive correlation relationship was found between fluorine concentrations in urine and those in drinking water in the area where the fluorine concentrations of drinking water are within the range of 1-2 mg/L. The fluorine absorbed by resistents of different ages is different in amount. With the same concentrations of fluorine in drinking water, more fluorine would be absorbed by young residents than old residents. No difference can be seen in absorption amount of fluorine among different genders.

Observation of plasma dynamics in a theta pinch by a novel method

A novel experimental method is proposed for observing plasma dynamics subjected to magnetic fields based on a newly developed cylindrical theta-pinch *** measuring simultaneously the temporal profiles of multiple parameters including the drive current,luminosity,plasma density,and plasma temperature,it provides a basis for observing the plasma dynamics of the theta pinch,such as shock transport and magnetohydrodynamic *** show that the plasma evolution can be distinguished as three ***,in the radial implosion phase,the trajectories of the current sheath and shock wave are ascertained by combining experimental data with a snowplow model(Lee model)in a self-consistent ***,in the axial flow phase,we demonstrate that m=0(sausage)instability associated with the plasma axial flow suppresses the plasma ***,in the newly observed anomalous heating phase,the lower-hybrid-drift instability may develop near the current sheath,which induces anomalous resistivity and enhanced plasma *** present experimental data and novel method offer better understanding of plasma dynamics in the presence of magnetic fields,thereby providing important support for relevant research in magneto-inertial fusion.
