Low-cost and high safe manganese-based aqueous battery for grid energy storage and conversion

As an effective energy storage technology, rechargeable batteries have long been considered as a promising solution for grid integration of intermittent renewables(such as solar and wind energy). However,their wide application is still limited by safety issue and high cost. Herein, a new battery chemistry is proposed to satisfy the requirements of grid energy storage. We report a simple Cu-Mn battery, which is composed of two separated current collectors in an H2SO4-CuSO4-MnSO4 electrolyte without using any membrane. The Cu-Mn battery shows an energy density of 40.8 Wh L-1, a super-long life of 10,000 cycles(without obvious capacity decay) and negligible self-discharge. And the capital cost of US$ 11.9 kWh-1 based on electrolyte is lower than any previous batteries. More importantly, the battery can still work smoothly during thermal abuse test and drill-through test, showing high safe nature. Furthermore, a combination system integrating the Cu-Mn battery and hydrogen evolution is also proposed, which is able to avoid the generation of explosive H2/O2 mixture, and presents an efficient approach for grid energy storage and conversion.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Neiguan(PC6) acupoint acustimulation in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting(CINV),especially for patients with guideline-inconsistent CINV prophylaxis(GICP) due to personal reasons METHODS: From January 2021 to December 2021, 373 patients suffered from solid malignancy were recruited according to the inclusion criteria. Complete response(no emesis and no rescue medication use) rate during the overall phase(0-120 h of each chemo-cycle) was the primary assessment of CINV control. The Functional Living Index-Emesis(FLIE) questionnaire was investigated among these patients as a secondary 'quality of life' objective to assess the impact of CINV on patients' daily life by recording score of nausea and vomiting. RESULTS: With acustimulation of Neiguan(PC6) acupuncture point through a portable, noninvasive and user-friendly device, in terms of complete response rate and scores in nausea/vomiting by FLIE questionnaire, patients achieve a better outcome in highly emetogenic chemotherapy(HEC) induced CINV, especially GICP subgroup. Meanwhile, analysis also demonstrated this tendency existed in other patients with HEC/GCCP(guideline consistent CINV prophylaxis) and moderate emetogenic chemotherapy, although the difference was not significant. CONCLUSION: Considering advantages of Neiguan(PC6) acustimulation such as noninvasive, covered by medical insurance and few side effects, we believe it would be an ideal auxiliary tool in CINV control, especially in patients who receive highly emetogenic chemoprotocol and are reluctant to GCCP for economic reasons.

In this study,the Powder River Basin(PRB)coal fast pyrolysis was conducted at 700°C in the atmosphere of syngas produced by CH4-CO2 reforming in two different patterns,including the double reactors pattern(the first reactor is for syngas production and the second is for coal pyrolysis)and double layers pattern(catalyst was at upper layer and coal was at lower layer).Besides,pure gases atmosphere including N2,H2,CO,H2-CO were also tested to investigate the mechanism of the coal pyrolysis under different *** pyrolysis products including gas,liquid and char were characterized,the result showed that,compared with the inert atmosphere,the tar yield is improved with the reducing atmospheres,as well as the tar *** hydrogen partial pressure is the key point for that *** the atmosphere of H2,the tar yield was increased by 31.3%and the contained BTX(benzene,toluene and xylene)and naphthalene were increased by 27.1%and 133.4%.The double reactors pattern also performed outstandingly,with 25.4%increment of tar yield and 25.0%and 79.4%for the BTX and *** double layers pattern is not effective enough due to the low temperature(700°C)in which the Ni-based catalyst was not fully activated.

Weakly-solvated electrolytes(WSEs)utilizing solvents with weak coordination ability offer advantages for low-potential graphite anode owing to their facile desolvation process and anions-derived inorganic-rich solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)***,these electrolytes face challenges in achieving a balance between the weak solvation affinity and high ionic conductivity,as well as between rigid inorganic-rich SEI and flexible SEI for long-term ***,we introduce 1,3-dioxolane(DOL)and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide(LiTFSI)as functional additives into a WSE based on nonpolar cyclic ether(1,4-dioxane).The well-formulated WSE not only preserves the weakly solvated features and anion-dominated solvation sheath,but also utilizes DOL to contribute organic species for stabilizing the SEI *** from these merits,the optimized electrolyte enables graphite anode with excellent fast-charging performance(210 mAh/g at 5 C)and outstanding cycling stability(600 cycles with a capacity retention of 82.0%at room temperature and 400 cycles with a capacity retention of 80.4%at high temper-ature).Furthermore,the fabricated LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)||graphite full cells demonstrate stable operation for 140 cycles with high capacity retention of 80.3%.This work highlights the potential of tailoring solvation sheath and interphase properties in WSEs for advanced electrolyte design in graphite-based lithium-ion batteries.

Characteristics and temporal variations of near-bottom currents near the Dongsha Island in the northern South China Sea

Near-bottom currents play important roles in the formation and dynamics of deep-water sedimentary *** study examined the characteristics and temporal variations of near-bottom currents, especially the tidal components, based on two campaigns(2014 and 2016) of in situ observations conducted southeast of the Dongsha Island in the South China Sea. Results demonstrated near-bottom currents are dominated by tidal currents, the variance of which could account for ～70% of the total current variance. Diurnal tidal currents were found stronger than semidiurnal currents for both barotropic and baroclinic components. The diurnal tidal currents were found polarized with predominantly clockwise-rotating constituents, whereas the clockwise and counterclockwise constituents were found comparable for semidiurnal tidal currents. It was established that diurnal tidal currents could induce strong current shear. Baroclinic tidal currents showed pronounced seasonal variation with large magnitude in winter and summer and weak magnitude in spring and autumn in 2014. The coherent components accounted for ～65% and ～50% of the diurnal and semidiurnal tidal current variances,respectively. The proportions of the coherent and incoherent components changed little in different seasons. In addition to tidal currents, it was determined that the passing of mesoscale eddies could induce strong nearbottom currents that have considerable influence on the deep circulation.

Symmetry breaking of metal cluster-based strongly correlated systems can give rise to collective ***,the twodimensional Nb_(3) cluster compound Nb_(3)Cl_(8) is shown to suffer dramatic symmetry breaking and electron disproportionation under compression.A structural phase transition from trigonal P–3m1 to monoclinic C2/m is observed near 8 GPa with the three-fold symmetry *** disproportionation occurs on Nb_(3) clusters from delocalized Nb^(8/3+)Nb^(8/3+)Nb^(8/3+)to localized Nb^(3+)Nb^(3+)Nb^(2+),which results in a subtle bandgap discontinuity,as evidenced by electrical transport and UV-Vis absorption measurements.
