Evaluation of the infectivity,gene and antigenicity persistence of rotaviruses by free chlorine disinfection

The effects of free chlorine disinfection of tap water and wastewater effluents on the infectivity, gene integrity and surface antigens of rotaviruses were evaluated by a bench-scale chlorine disinfection experiments. Plaque assays, integrated cell culture-quantitative RT- PCR （ICC-RT-qPCR）, RT-qPCR, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays （ELISA）, respectively, were used to assess the influence of the disinfectant on virus infectivity as well as genetic and antigenic integrity of simian rotavirus SA11 as a surrogate for human rotaviruses. The ICC-RT-qPCR was able to detect rotaviruses survival from chlorine disinfection at chlorine dose up to 20 mg/L （60 min contact）, which suggested a required chlorine dose of 5 folds （from 1 to 5 mg/L） higher than that indicated by the plaque assay to achieve 1.8 log10 reductions in tap water with 60 rain exposing. The VP7 gene was more resistant than the infectivity and existed at chlorine dose up to 20 mg/L （60 min contact）, while the antigencity was undetectable with chlorine dose more than 5 mg/L （60 min contact）. The water quality also impacted the inactivation efficiencies, and rotaviruses have a relatively higher resistant in secondary effluents than in the tap water under the same chlorine disinfection treatments. This study indicated that rotaviruses have a higher infectivity, gene and antigencity resistance to chlorine than that previously indicated by plaque assay only, which seemed to underestimate the resistance of rotaviruses to chlorine and the risk of rotaviruses in environments. Present results also suggested that re-evaluation of resistance of other waterborne viruses after disinfections by more sensitive infectivity detection method （such as ICC-RT-qPCR） may be necessary, to determine the adequate disinfectant doses required for the inactivation of waterborne viruses.

The gut microbiota acts as a symbiotic microecosystem that plays an indispensable role in the regulation of a number of metabolic processes in the host by secreting secondary metabolites and impacting the physiology and pathophysiology of numerous organs and tissues through the circulatory system. This relationship, referred to as the “gut-X axis”, is associated with the development and progression of disorders, including obesity, fatty liver and Parkinson's disease. Given its importance, the gut flora is a vital research area for the understanding and development of the novel therapeutic approaches for multiple disorders. Iron is a common but necessary element required by both mammals and bacteria. As a result, iron metabolism is closely intertwined with the gut microbiota. The host's iron homeostasis affects the composition of the gut microbiota and the interaction between host and gut microbiota through various mechanisms such as nutrient homeostasis, intestinal peaceability,gut immunity, and oxidative stress. Therefore, understanding the relationship between gut microbes and host iron metabolism is not only of enormous significance to host health but also may offer preventative and therapeutic approaches for a number of disorders that impact both parties. In this review, we delve into the connection between the dysregulation of iron metabolism and dysbiosis of gut microbiota, and how it contributes to the onset and progression of metabolic and chronic diseases.

Ultraslow-light effects in two-dimensional hexagonal-lattice coupled waveguide with moon-like scat- terers were theoretically studied using the plane-wave expansion method. For symmetric structures, simulations showed that slow light with high group index can be achieved by shifting the scatterers and adjusting the radius of moon-like scatterers. The maximum group index was over 8.0 × 10^4. For asymmetric structures, simulations showed that slow light with flat band and high group index can be obtained by shifting the scatterers, adjusting the radius of moon-like scatterers, and rotating the scatterers. The maximum group index was over 5.7 ×10^5 with a ＂saddle-like＂ relationship between the frequency and group index.

In this paper, a delay partitioning approach is introduced to solve problems of passivity and passification for continuous T-S fuzzy system with time delay. By constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, delay-dependent passivity/passification performance conditions are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities（LMIs）. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches which can futher reduce conservatism.

Monochloroacetic acid(MCAA)is identified as a highly carcinogenic disinfection by-product in chlorinated drinking *** this study,a series of CeO_(2)-supported Pd catalysts(Pd/MCeO_(2))were synthesized through one-step calcination of Pd-loaded Ce-UiO-66-BDC(CeMOF),and the liquid-phase catalytic hydrodechlorination of MCA A was explored using these *** comparison,Pd/CeO_(2)catalysts were additionally synthesized using the conventional impregnation *** characterization results reveal that the catalysts exhibit strong metal-support interaction,leading to high Pd dispersion and Pd^(n+)***,the calcination temperature significantly influences catalytic performance,with the catalyst calcined at 500℃(Pd/MCeO_(2)-500)demonstrating the highest catalytic activity and achieving complete dechlorination of MCA A within 50 ***,it is found that the catalytic MCAA hydrodechlorination using the catalysts adheres to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood ***,low reaction pH is favorable for the catalytic hydrodechlorination of MCAA,enhancing MCAA adsorption on the catalyst surface due to the electrostatic interaction between MCAA and the catalyst *** results suggest that the presence of Pd^(n+)efficiently facilitates MCAA adsorption and C-Cl cleavage,thus significantly enhancing the liquid-phase catalytic hydrodechlorination.

Leidenfrost effect is a common and important phenomenon which has many applications,however there is a limited body of knowledge about the Leidenfrost effect at the nanoscale *** investigate the impact of substrate wettability on Leidenfrost point temperature(LPT) of nanoscale water film via molecular dynamics simulations,and reveal a new mechanism different from that at the *** the molecular dynamics simulations,a method of monitoring density change at different heating rates is proposed to obtain accurate LPT under different surface *** results show that LPT decreases firstly and then increases with the surface wettability at the nanoscale,which is different from the monotonous increasing trend at the *** mechanism is elucidated by analyzing the competitive effect of adhesion force and interfacial thermal resistance,as well as different contributions of gravity on LPT at the nanoscale and *** investigations can deepen the understanding of Leidenfrost effect at the nanoscale regime and also facilitate to guide the applications of heat transfer and flow transport.
