Emergence,Mating and Oviposition Behavior of the Chinese Population in Pink Bollworm,Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae)

The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella （Lepidoptera： Gelechiidae） is one of the most serious lepidopteran pests of cotton in the world. This pest invaded China at the onset of the 20th century, possibly through repeated introductions from several different locations worldwide. In this paper, we describe different behavioral parameters of this Hubei P. gossypiella strain under laboratory and field conditions. Using an infra-red video recorder, we observed （nocturnal） emergence, flight and mating activities, and oviposition patterns. Moth emergence started from 13：00 and continued up till 23：00. Under laboratory and field conditions, 2-7-d-old moths initiated flight around sunset, peaked 50 rain later and gradually declined until 04：00. Although mating started immediately after darkness （i.e., 20：00）, mating behavior was most intense from 23：00 to 03：40. Oviposition also showed distinct time-related patterns, with approx. 70% eggs laid between 20：00 and 22：00. In the studies of the relationship between flight and oviposition, the duration of flight had an effect on oviposition. The 1-d-old moths flown for 6 and 12 h began oviposition earlier than the unflown ones, and the 6-h flight had no effect on the egg production. However, the longevity of the flown moths was shortened after flight. In addition, the peaks of oviposition for the flown moths were advanced 2-3 d. The age when the moths flied affected the oviposition of adult moths. The earlier the moths started to fly after emergence, the greater the fecundity they had. The average egg production of moths flown for 24 h was less than that of non-flown moths which were of the same age. Both flight and delay in mating could advance the oviposition peak. Our study provides detailed insights in nocturnal activities and the reproductive biology of local P. gossypiella populations, which could be employed to fine-tune current pest management programs in China.

Silicon anodes are considered to have great prospects for use in batteries;however,many of their defects still need to be *** preparation of hybrid materials based on porous carbon is one of the effective ways to alleviate the adverse impact resulting from the volume change and the inferior electronic conductivity of a silicon ***,a chain-like carbon cluster structure is prepared,in which MOF-derived porous carbon acts as a shell structure to integrally encapsulate Si nanoparticles,and CNTs play a role in connecting carbon *** on the exclusive structure,the carbon shell can accommodate the volume expansion more effectively,and CNTs can improve the overall stability and *** resulting composite reveals excellent rate capacity and enhanced cycling stability;in particular,a capacity of 732 mA·h·g^(-1) at 2 A·g^(-1) is achieved with a reservation rate of 72.3% after cycling 100 times at 1 A·g^(-1).

Mechanical behavior and failure mechanism of polyurea nanocomposites under quasi-static and dynamic compressive loading

Polyurea is an elastomeric material that can be applied to enhance the protection ability of structures under blast and impact *** order to study the compressive mechanical properties of SiC/polyurea nanocomposites under quasi-static and dynamic loading,a universal testing machine and split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)apparatus were used *** stress-strain curves were obtained on polyurea and its composites at strain rates of 0.001e8000 s*** results of the experiment suggested that increase in the strain rates led to the rise of the flow stress,compressive strength,strain rate sensitivity and strain *** indicates that all of the presented materials were dependent on strain ***,these mechanical characters were enhanced by incorporating a small amount of SiC into polyurea *** relation between yield stress and strain rates were established using the power law ***,in order to investigate the fracture surfaces and inside information of failed specimens,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and micro X-ray computed tomography(micro-CT)were used *** voids,crazes,micro-cracks and cracking were observed in fracture *** the other hand,the cracking propagation was found in the micro-CT slice *** is essential to understand the deformation and failure mechanisms in all the polyurea materials.

Monitoring of the oxidation process of egg yolk phospholipids at frying temperature by nuclear magnetic resonance

Egg yolk phospholipids(EPLs)are sensitive to oxidation and can produce large quantities of volatile *** study monitored the oxidation process of EPLs at frying *** changes in the classes of EPLs,molar percentages of their fatty acyl groups and the concentrations of oxidation compounds under frying temperature were monitored by 31P nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and 1H ***,egg yolk triglycerides(ETGs)were used as *** were mainly composed by phosphatidylcholine(76.74%±1.48%),phosphatidylethanolamine(17.97%±1.40%)and phosphatidylserine(1.26%±0.55%).EPLs,especially phosphatidylethanolamine,were degraded significantly during *** molar percentages of unsaturated acyl groups in EPLs were decreased,while the percentages of saturated plus modified acyl groups were increased during *** produced large quantities of hydroperoxides and secondary oxidation compounds *** results proved that EPLs were more sensitively to oxidation than ETGs during frying process,and EPLs could generate abundant of secondary oxidation compounds,especially 2,4-alkadienals,which demonstrated that EPLs are an ideal precursor of lipid-derived odorants.

Trimethylamine Adsorption Mechanism on Activated Carbon and Removal in Water and Oyster Proteolytic Solution

In this study,seven coal-based activated carbons(ACs)were adopted to remove trimethylamine(TMA)in an aqueous solution as environmentally friendly and harmless *** results showed that columnar AC(CAC)had a clear scale and honeycomb structures with few fragments and micropores,contributing to superior TMA removal capacity compared to granular AC(GAC)(71.67%for 6.0 mm CAC and 69.92%for 40–60 mesh GAC).In addition,the process of adsorption was accompanied by desorption,and the recommended absorbed time was 120–180 *** short time to achieve equilibrium indicated that adsorption was kinetically controlled,and pseudo-second-order kinetics was more appropriate than pseudo-first-order kinetics in explaining the adsorption mechanism in both water and oyster enzymatic *** intraparticle diffusion model presented that the adsorption processes could be divided into three steps for GAC and two steps for *** adsorption processes were consistent with the Freundlich model,indicating the existence of physisorption and chemisorption as multilayer *** results indicated that AC,especially CAC,has great potential for TMA elimination in aquatic product processing.

A simple approach for stable single polarization,single frequency,and linear cavity erbium doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated.A Fabry-Pérot filter,polarizer and saturable absorber are used together to ensure stable single frequency,single polarization *** optical signal-to-noise ratio of the laser is approximately 57 dB,and the Lorentz linewidth is 13.9 *** polarization state of the laser with good stability is confirmed and the degree of polarization is>99%.

In the present study,an oligosaccharide SPO-1 from Spirulina platensis was prepared by glycosidase from a marine *** prebiotic activity of SPO-1 on the growth of Lactobacillus paracasei and Bifidobacterium animalis,and its effect on human gut microbiota were examined in *** molecular weight of the tetrasaccharide SPO-1 was 650.2 Da,and it was mainly composed of glucose with α-type glycosidic *** prebiotic activity score of SPO-1 was the highest for the growth of probiotic strains *** and ***,as fermentation proceeded,SPO-1 was gradually degraded and utilized by intestinal *** results showed that after treatment with SPO-1,carbohydrate consumption and short-chain fatty acids levels were increased,especially those of i-butyric and i-valeric ***,SPO-1 significantly promoted the abundance,diversity and composition of gut microbiota,especially stimulating the growth of Bacteroides,Escherichia-Shigella and *** addition,the change in intestinal microbiota function predicted by phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states(PICRUSt)after treatment with SPO-1 is mainly related to the terms“carbohydrate metabolism”and“amino acid metabolism”.These results suggest that SPO-1 is a potential oligosaccharide in regulation of intestinal microbiota.

Enoxacin-loaded Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) Coating on Porous Magnesium Scaffold as a Drug Delivery System: Antibacterial Properties and Inhibition of Osteoclastic Bone Resorption

Implant-associated infection remains a difficult medical problem in orthopedic surgery. Therefore, the development of multifunctional bone implants for treating infection and regenerating lost bone tissue, which may be a result of infection, is important. In the present study, we report the fabrication of enoxacin- loaded poly （lactic-co-glycolic acid）（PLGA） coating on porous magnesium scaffold （Enox-PLGA-Mg） which combine the favorable properties of magnesium, the antibacterial property and the effect of inhibition of osteoclastic bone resorption of enoxacin. The drug loaded PLGA coating of Mg scaffold enables higher drug loading efficiency （52%-56%） than non-coating enoxacin loaded Mg scaffold （Enox-Mg）（4%-5%）. Enox- PLGA-Mg exhibits sustained drug release for more than 14 days, and this controlled release of enoxacin signifcantly inhibits bacterial adhesion and prevented biofilm formation by Staphylococcus epidermidis （ATCC35984） and Staphylococcus aureus （ATCC25923）. Biocompatibility tests with Balb/c mouse embryo fibroblasts （Balb/c 3T3 cells） indicate that PLGA-Mg has better biocompatibility than Mg. Finally, we also demonstrate that Enox-PLCA-Mg extract potently inhibited osteoclast formation in vitro. Therefore, Enox- PLCA-Mg has the potential to be used as a multifunctional controlled drug delivery system bone scaffolds to prevent and/or treat orthopedic peri-implant infections.

Cytocompatibility of High Nitrogen Nickel-Free Stainless Steel for Orthopedic Implants

Cytocompatibility of high nitrogen nickel-free stainless steel （HNS） with different nitrogen content was evalu- ated and compared with a conventional austenitic stainless steel 317L. The MTT assay （3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol- 2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide） was performed on MG63 osteoblasts to assess the cytotoxicity. The expression of selected marker typical of differentiated osteoblasts, such as alkaline phosphatase activity （AKP）, was also monitored in MG63 cells cultured on the tested materials. As a result, HNS had higher cell growth than 317L; meanwhile the cytocompatibility was increased with increasing nitrogen content. Furthermore, HNS enhanced osteoblasts differentiation, as confirmed by AKP activity. Overall these facts indicated that HNS had higher cytocompatibility than 317L and the nitrogen content contributed to the higher cytocompatibility of HNS. The influence of nitrogen on surface energy further explained the cytocompatibility of HNS.

Accumulating evidence indicates that RNA methylation at N6-methyladenosine(m6A)plays an important regulatory role in gene expression and aberrant mRNA m6A modification is often associated with a variety of ***,little is known whether and how m6A-modification impacts long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)and lncRNA-mediated tumorigenesis,particularly in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).In the present study,we report that a previously uncharacterized lncRNA,LINC00901,promotes pancreatic cancer cell growth and invasion and moreover,LINC00901 is subject to m6A modification which regulates its *** this regard,YTHDF1 serves as a reader for the m6A modified LINC00901 and downregulates the LINC00901 ***,two conserved m6A sites in LINC00901 are critical to the recognition of LINC00901 by ***,RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)and gene function analysis revealed that LINC00901 positively regulates MYC through upregulation of IGF2BP2,a known RNA binding protein that can enhance MYC mRNA ***,our results suggest that there is a LINC00901-IGF2BP2-MYC axis through which LINC00901 promotes PDAC progression in an m6A dependent manner.
