Background: Carotid body tum.ur (CBT) is a rare neoplasm. yet it is the com.onest head and neck paragangliom.. In Iraq, relevant literature is sparse. Herein, we present our second case series. m.thodology: Patients with CBTs that were operated upon in the Departm.nt of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Baghdad m.dical City from.2010 to 2014 were enrolled. History and exam.nation were followed by a workup of duplex ultrasonography, CT scan, m.gnetic resonance im.ging, CT or conventional carotid angiography. Surgical exploration via a standard anterolateral cervical incision and subadventitial dissection was used to resect the tum.urs with preservation of carotid arteries. Intra-lum.nal carotid shunts and vein grafts were prepared to be used if necessary. Results: There were 5 m.les and 2 fem.les aging 17 - 46 with a m.an of 32.9 ± 9.8 year. All patients had slowly growing painless pulsatile swelling below m.ndiblular angle for long durations (1 - 25 years) and a positive Fontaine’s sign. All tum.urs were benign, unilateral (right n = 4, left n = 3) and ranging in size from.3 × 3 cm.to 6.4 × 3.2 cm. Beside US neck exam. carotid angiography was done in 5 patients. According to Sham.lin classification, 4 were class II, 2 class I and 1 class III. All tum.urs were successfully resected with preservation of ICA. However, the ECA was safely ligated twice due to severe involvem.nt. Tongue deviation occurred once (14.3%) but no patient died and none had stroke or recurrence. Conclusions: Our results of surgery for CBT com.are very well with the international standards.

Background As the m.st widely cultivated fiber crop,cotton production depends on hybridization to unlock the yield potential of current varieties.A deep understanding of genetic dissection is crucial for the cultivation of enhanced hybrid plants with desired traits,such as high yield and fine fiber *** this study,the general com.ining ability(GCA)and specific com.ining ability(SCA)of yield and fiber quality of nine cotton parents(six lines and three testers)and eighteen F1 crosses produced using a line×tester m.ting design were *** The results revealed significant effects of genotypes,parents,crosses,and interactions between parents and crosses for m.st of the studied ***,the effects of both additive and non-additive gene actions played a notably significant role in the inheritance of m.st of the yield and fiber quality *** F1 hybrids of(Giza 90×Aust)×Giza 86,Uzbekistan 1×Giza 97,and Giza 96×Giza 97 dem.nstrated superior perform.nce due to their favorable integration of high yield attributes and prem.um.fiber quality *** analysis revealed that lint yield has the highest positive direct effect on seed cotton yield,while lint percentage showed the highest negative direct effect on seed cotton *** com.onent analysis identified specific parents and hybrids associated with higher cotton yield,fiber quality,and other agronom.c *** This study provides insights into identifying potential single-and three-way cross hybrids with superior cotton yield and fiber quality characteristics,laying a foundation for future research on im.roving fiber quality in cotton.
