Validation of prognostic indices in Egyptian Budd-Chiari syndrome patients: A single-center study

AIMTo compare predictive ability of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) prognostic indices (PIs) for one-year survival and Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) *** retrospective study enrolled 194 Egyptian patients with primary BCS who presented to the Budd-Chiari Study Group of Ain Shams University hospital. Calculation of the available PIs was performed using Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores, BCS-specific PIs (Clichy, New Clichy and Rotterdam) for all patients, and BCS-TIPS PI only for patients who underwent TIPS. The overall one-year survival rate and the one-year shunt patency rate for TIPS were *** overall one-year survival rate was 69.6%, and the New Clichy PI revealed the best validity for its prediction at a cut-off value of 3.75, with sensitivity and specificity of 78% and 73.3%, respectively [area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) = 0.806]. The one-year survival rate post-TIPS was 89.7%, and the BCS-TIPS score demonstrated validity for its prediction at a cut-off value of 3.92 (sensitivity and specificity were 71.4% and 64.5%, respectively) (AUC = 0.715). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the New Clichy PI (P = 0.030), high serum total bilirubin (P = 0.047) and low albumin (P hin one year. The one-year shunt patency rate in TIPS was 80.2%, and none of the PIs exhibited significant validity for its *** New Clichy score could independently predict the one-year survival in Egyptian BCS patients.

Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Screening Mixed-Ligand Cu(II) and Zn(II) Complexes;DNA Binding Studies on Cu(II) Complex

Several mixed ligand Cu(II), Zn(II) complexes using (benzylidenethiourea) (obtained by the condensation of benzaldehyde and thiourea) as the primary ligand and (acetamide or thioacetamide) as an additional ligand were synthesized and characterized analytically and spectroscopically, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductance measurements ,as well as by UV-Vis. and IR spectroscopy. The interaction of the complexes with calf thymus (CT)DNA was studied using absorption spectra, while the concentration of DNA in gel electrophoresis remained constant at 10 μl. They exhibit absorption hypochromicity increased during the binding of the complexes to calf thymus DNA. The complexes show enhanced antimicrobial activities complexes with the free ligand. A theoretical treatment of the formation of complexes in the gas phase was studied, this was done using the hYPERChEM-6 program for the Molecular mechanics and Semi-empirical calculations.

Modifications produced by selective inhibitors of cyclooxygenase and ultra low dose aspirin on platelet activity in portal hypertension

AIM: To study the mechanism involved in the potentially beneficial effect of ultra low dose aspirin (ULDA) in prehepatic portal hypertension, rats were pretreated with selective COX 1 or 2 inhibitors (SC-560 or NS-398 respectively), and subsequently injected with ULDA or placebo. METhODS: Portal hypertension was induced by portal vein ligation. Platelet activity was investigated with an in-vivo model of laser induced thrombus production in mesenteric circulation and induced hemorrhagic time (IhT). Platelet aggregation induced by ADP and dosing of prostanoid products 6-keto-PGF1α, TXB2, PGE2 and LTB4 were also performed. RESULTS: The portal hypertensive group receiving a placebo showed a decreased in vivo platelet activity with prolonged IhT, an effect that was normalized by ULDA. SC-560 induced a mild antithrombotic effect in the normal rats, and an unmodified effect of ULDA. NS-398 had a mild prothrombotic action in portal hypertensive rats, similar to ULDA, but inhibited a further effect when ULDA was added. An increased 6-keto-PGF1α was observed in portal hypertensive group that was normalised after ULDA administration. TXA2 level after ULDA, remained unchanged. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the effect of ULDA on platelet activity in portal hypertensive rats, could act through a COX 2 pathway more than the COX 1, predominant for aspirin at higher doses.

Software Effort Prediction Using Ensemble Learning Methods

Software Cost Estimation (SCE) is an essential requirement in producing software these days. Genuine accurate estimation requires cost-and-efforts factors in delivering software by utilizing algorithmic or Ensemble Learning Methods (ELMs). Effort is estimated in terms of individual months and length. Overestimation as well as underestimation of efforts can adversely affect software development. Hence, it is the responsibility of software development managers to estimate the cost using the best possible techniques. The predominant cost for any product is the expense of figuring effort. Subsequently, effort estimation is exceptionally pivotal and there is a constant need to improve its accuracy. Fortunately, several efforts estimation models are available;however, it is difficult to determine which model is more accurate on what dataset. Hence, we use ensemble learning bagging with base learner Linear regression, SMOReg, MLP, random forest, REPTree, and M5Rule. We also implemented the feature selection algorithm to examine the effect of feature selection algorithm BestFit and Genetic Algorithm. The dataset is based on 499 projects known as China. The results show that the Mean Magnitude Relative error of Bagging M5 rule with Genetic Algorithm as Feature Selection is 10%, which makes it better than other algorithms.

Phase modification and dielectric properties of a cullet–paper ash–kaolin clay-based ceramic

Novel ceramics from waste material made of(x) paper ash–(80-x) cullet–20 kaolin clay(10 wt% ≤ x ≤ 30 wt%) were successfully synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction technique. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis confirmed the presence of Si, Ca, Al, and Fe in the waste material for preparing these ceramics. The influence of the cullet content on the phase structures and the dielectric properties of these ceramics were systematically investigated. The impedance spectra were verified in the range from 1 hz to 10 Mhz at room temperature. The phase of the ceramics was found to primarily consist of wollastonite(CaSiO_3), along with minor phases of γ-dicalcium silicate(Ca_2SiO_4) and quartz(SiO_2). The sample with a cullet content of 55 wt% possessed the optimum wollastonite structure and exhibited good dielectric properties. An increase of the cullet content beyond 55 wt% resulted in a structural change from wollastonite to dicalcium silicate, a decrease in dielectric constant, and an increase in dielectric loss. All experimental results suggested that these novel ceramics from waste are applicable for electronic devices.

Cellular and molecular aspects of gastric cancer

Gastric cancer remains a global killer with a shifting burden from the developed to the developing world. The cancer develops along a multistage process that is defined by distinct histological and pathophysiological phases. Several genetic and epigenetic alterations mediate the transition from one stage to another and these include mutations in oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes and cell cycle and mismatch repair genes. The most significant advance in the fight against gastric caner came with the recognition of the role of helicobacter pylori （h pylori） as the most important acquired aetiological agent for this cancer. Recent work has focussed on elucidating the complex host/microbial interactions that underlie the neoplastic process. There is now considerable insight into the pathogenesis of this cancer and the prospect of preventing and eradicating the disease has become a reality. Perhaps more importantly, the study of h pylori-induced gastric carcinogenesis offers a paradigm for understanding more complex human cancers. In this review, we examine the molecular and cellular events that underlie hpyloriinduced gastric cancer.

Copper-hydrides have been intensively studied for a long time due to their utilization in a variety of technologically important chemical ***,poor stability of the species severely hinders its isolation,storage and operation,which is worse for nano-sized *** report here an unprecedented strategy to access to ultrastable copper-hydride nanoclusters(NCs),namely,using bidentate N-heterocyclic carbenes as stabilizing ligands in addition to *** this work,a simple synthetic protocol was developed to synthesize the first large copper-hydride nanoclusters(NCs)stabilized by N-heterocyclic carbenes(NhCs).The NC,with the formula of Cu3i(RS)25(NhC)3h6(NhC=1,4-bis(1-benzyl-1 h-benzimidazol-1-ium-3-yl)butane,RS=4-fluorothiophenol),was fully characterized by high resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrum,nuclear magnetic resonance,ultra-violet visible spectroscopy,density functional theory(DFT)calculations and single-crystal X-ray ***,the title cluster exhibits unprecedented Cu4 tetrahedron-based vertex-sharing(TBVS)superstructure(fusion of six Cu4 tetrahedra).Moreover,the ultrahigh thermal stability renders the cluster a model system to highlight the power of NhCs(even other carbenes)in controlling geometrical,electronic and surface structure of polyhydrido copper clusters.

Rare earths(REs) play a key role in distorting spinel structure by creating some defects at the lattice sites and make them suitable for magnetodielectric *** the present study,the nanoferrites of CuRE0.02Fe1.98O4,where REs=Y^(3+),Yb^(3+),Gd^(3+),were prepared using one step sol-gel *** prepared samples are copper ferrite(CFO),yttrium doped copper ferrite(Y-CFO),ytterbium doped copper ferrite(Yb-CFO) and gadolinium doped copper ferrite(Gd-CFO),*** single-phase structure of all the REs doped nanoferrites was determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD) *** porosity,agglomerations and grain size of the REs doped copper ferrite were examined using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)elaborates the phase formation and environmental effects on the REs doped nanoparticles(NPs).The recorded room temperature M-h loops from a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) elucidate the magnetic properties of the REs doped spinel *** magnetic saturation(Ms) was calculated in the range of 23.08 to 51.78 emu/*** calculated coercivity values(272.6 to 705.60 Oe) confirm the soft magnetic behavior of REs doped copper ***,the electromagnetic and dielectric properties were assessed using a Vector network analyzer(VNA) from 1 to 6 *** permeability,permittivity,dielectric tangent loss and electric modulus of the REs doped spinel ferrites illustrate that the prepared NPs may be suitable for microwave and high frequency applications.
