Long-term Consumption of Highland Barley Tea Promotes Healthy Aging of Skeletal Muscle

Highland barley tea (HBT) is made from roasted barley seeds and is abundant in β-glucan， amino acids， minerals， phenolics， and other natural active ingredients. These natural compounds found in whole grains have been shown to slow aging and positively affect skeletal muscle function. As a result， studying the effects of HBT on the skeletal muscle health of the elderly population is critical from a scientific and societal standpoint for improving their health status and reducing the medical burden on society. The antioxidant activity and the content of natural active substances were used as indicators to screen the optimal process of HBT brewing. The effects of long-term HBT consumption on aging in mice were investigated by using HBT as a substitute for drinking water in naturally aging mice for a 5-month intervention. Afterward， various factors were measured， such as basic physiological indices， inflammation， plasma metabolites， skeletal muscle function， and exercise capacity， to evaluate the effects of HBT on aging in mice. Long-term consumption of HBT reduced body and spleen weight， increased body weight percentage of skeletal muscle， and reduced plasma inflammation levels in aging mice. Metabolomic results showed increased plasma levels of the mitochondrial marker short-chain acylcarnitine and some amino acids. Additionally， there was a decrease in bile and long-chain acylcarnitine. The level of fibrosis in the gastrocnemius muscle of aging mice was suppressed， and the percentage of type I muscle fibers was increased， improving the endurance of the mice. Thus， long-term consumption of HBT may reduce body weight and increase skeletal muscle mitochondrial activity and exercise capacity in aging mice by reducing inflammation levels and alleviating mitochondrial damage.

Estimation of crowd count is becoming crucial nowadays,as it can help in security surveillance,crowd monitoring,and management for different *** is challenging to determine the approximate crowd size from an image of the crowd’s *** in this research study,we proposed a multi-headed convolutional neural network architecture-based model for crowd counting,where we divided our proposed model into two main components:(i)the convolutional neural network,which extracts the feature across the whole image that is given to it as an input,and(ii)the multi-headed layers,which make it easier to evaluate density maps to estimate the number of people in the input image and determine their number in the *** employed the available public benchmark crowd-counting datasets UCF CC 50 and ShanghaiTech parts A and B for model training and testing to validate the model’s *** analyze the results,we used two metrics Mean Absolute Error(MAE)and Mean Square Error(MSE),and compared the results of the proposed systems with the state-of-art models of crowd *** results show the superiority of the proposed system.

Adaptability of bipedicled scalp advancement flap for coverage of huge scalp defects after tumor resection

Background: Several reconstructive techniques have been used to reconstruct scalp defects. Numerous researchers have studied the utilization of bipedicled scalp advancement flaps for scalp defect coverage. In this study, we will assess the adaptability of a bipedicled scalp advancement flap for coverage of huge scalp defects after tumor ***: This study was performed at the Plastic Surgery Department, Fayoum University Hospital, on 20 patients with huge scalp tumors treated by adequate excision and reconstructed using a bipedicled scalp advancement flap from December 2021 to July ***: The study was conducted on 20 patients: 16(80%) were men and 4(20%) were women presenting with large scalp tumors. The mean age was 57.4 years(33–68 years). The sites of the tumors were 10(50%) occipital,6(30%) parietal, and 4(20%) parieto-occipital. No major complications occurred postoperatively, and the bipedicled flaps survived well in all cases, with no ***: Huge scalp defects after tumor resection can be safely reconstructed with a large versatile bipedicled advancement scalp flap, either transversely or longitudinally oriented, with favorable functional results and accepted aesthetic results, apart from the alopecic area over the grafted donor site, which can be treated by tissue expansion if desired later.

Study of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Concentrations Factor of SWCC al-Khobar Plant Seawater Intakes

This study presents a significant contribution to the field of water quality assessment and sustainable water management practices. By evaluating the levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) in seawater intakes within al-Khobar desalination production system, the study addresses a crucial aspect of water treatment and environmental impact assessment. The findings provide valuable insights into the variations and trends of TDS levels across different phases of the system, highlighting the importance of monitoring and management strategies. The study provided both gravimetric total dissolved solids (TDS) and electrical conductivity (EC) measurements to analyze TDS calculation factor and evaluate measurement accuracy. Results revealed significant variations in TDS levels across the sampling locations, with phase-2 exhibiting higher levels and greater fluctuations. Phase-3 displayed similar trends but with lower TDS levels, while phase-4 showed slightly different behavior with higher average TDS levels. EC measurements demonstrated a strong correlation with TDS, providing a reliable estimation. However, additional methods such as gravimetric analysis should be employed to confirm TDS measurements. The findings contribute to understanding water quality in the al-Khobar desalination system, aiding in monitoring, management, and decision-making processes for water treatment and environmental impact assessment. The study enhances the credibility of water quality assessments and supports sustainable water management practices.

Smart prediction of liquefaction-induced lateral spreading

The prediction of liquefaction-induced lateral spreading/displacement(Dh)is a challenging task for civil/geotechnical *** this study,a new approach is proposed to predict Dh using gene expression programming(GEP).Based on statistical reasoning,individual models were developed for two topographies:free-face and gently sloping *** with a comparison with conventional approaches for predicting the Dh,four additional regression-based soft computing models,*** process regression(GPR),relevance vector machine(RVM),sequential minimal optimization regression(SMOR),and M5-tree,were developed and compared with the GEP *** results indicate that the GEP models predict Dh with less bias,as evidenced by the root mean square error(RMSE)and mean absolute error(MAE)for training(i.e.1.092 and 0.815;and 0.643 and 0.526)and for testing(i.e.0.89 and 0.705;and 0.773 and 0.573)in free-face and gently sloping ground topographies,*** overall performance for the free-face topology was ranked as follows:GEP>RVM>M5-tree>GPR>SMOR,with a total score of 40,32,24,15,and 10,*** the gently sloping condition,the performance was ranked as follows:GEP>RVM>GPR>M5-tree>SMOR with a total score of 40,32,21,19,and 8,***,the results of the sensitivity analysis showed that for both free-face and gently sloping ground,the liquefiable layer thickness(T_(15))was the major parameter with percentage deterioration(%D)value of 99.15 and 90.72,respectively.

Scenario-Based Assessment of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Kuwait: Insights for Effective Resource Management

The interdependency among water, food, and energy (WEF) in the GCC countries is strongly and closely interlinked, and is intensifying as demand for resources increases with population growth and changing consumption patterns, and are expected to be further compounded by the impacts of climate change. Therefore, integrated management of the three sectors is crucial to reduce trade-offs and build synergies among them. This paper presents a comprehensive framework to assess the WEF nexus in Kuwait as a representative case for the GCC countries. The framework consists of three main steps: 1) evaluating the influence of socio-economic development and climate change on water, energy, and food resources;2) generating scenario-based projections;and 3) conducting an extensive quantitative nexus analysis. The WEF interlinkages in Kuwait are modelled quantitatively using the Q-Nexus model, and current critical interdependencies are evaluated. Then, various WEF-Nexus scenarios were conducted for the year 2035 to explore the effects of management interventions in one sector on the other two sectors. The main findings are that per capita municipal water consumption is a major influencer on the WEF-nexus due to the heavy reliance on thermal desalination in municipal water supply in Kuwait, which is attributed to its energy intensity, financial cost, GHGs emissions, and environmental impacts on the marine and air environments. To reduce WEF trade-offs, mitigate risks, and build synergies among the three sectors, it is important to shift the current policy focus on supply-side management approach to the demand-side management and efficiency approaches.

In this paper,new four fifth-order fractional nonlinear equations are derived and *** frac-tional terms are defined in the conformable sense and these equations are then solved using two effective methods,namely,the sub-equation and the generalized Kudryashov *** methods were tested on the proposed models and succeeded in finding new solutions with different values of parameters.A graphical representation of some results is provided and proves the efficiency and applicability of the proposed methods for providing solutions with known physical *** methods are good candi-dates for solving other similar problems in the future.

在自然语言处理(NLP)领域中,文本到SQL转换上取得的显著进步,使得用自然语言与数据库交互成为可能。然而,它在低资源语言如乌尔都语上的表现不足。本研究提出USpider,一个乌尔都语文本到SQL转换数据集,旨在解决文本到SQL任务在乌尔都语上的资源稀缺问题,为构建该领域在乌尔都语上的发展奠定基础。USpider包含9,693个乌尔都语自然语言问题及其对应的SQL查询,涉及133个不同领域的166个不同的数据库。数据集的创建采用严谨方法,结合机器翻译、人工改进和迭代审查,确保语言的准确性、连贯性和文化相关性。由此产生的高质量数据集展现了乌尔都语在数据库查询中的丰富性和复杂性。为了验证USpider的科研和使用价值,实验部分我们使用了大型语言模型(LLM),具体是GPT-3.5,应用DINSQL方法进行少样本学习。实验通过执行准确性和匹配准确性等指标进行评估,展示了模型在简单和中等难度查询上表现出色。对于简单查询,模型在不同测试批次中达到69%至72%的执行准确性和54%至58%的精确匹配准确性。对于中等难度查询,执行准确性和精确匹配准确性分别在59%至63%和42%至48%之间。这些发现证实了USpider在提高准确SQL查询方面的作用。然而,实验亦揭示了处理复杂查询和语言变化时的挑战。随着查询难度的增加,困难级别查询的执行准确性下降到40%-59%,非常困难级别的查询下降到38%-42%。精确匹配准确性在这些类别中分别在10%-34%和0%-23%之间。USpider数据集对乌尔都语社区将会具有重大意义,将能开启医疗保健、教育、金融和电子政务等领域数据库的自然语言接口。通过让乌尔都语使用者使用母语与技术互动,研究有助于缩小数字鸿沟,推动NLP的包容性。此外,本研究的发现将对更广泛的NLP领域,尤其是对低资源语言有重要启示。DINSQL方法成功应用于乌尔都语,,强调了为低资源语言专门构建数据集的重要性。USpider的创建方法将为其他语言中的类似挑战提供参考。未来的研究方向包括改进USpider以适应较弱的LLM,探索LLM的局限性,并适应Spider数据集的演变。随着Spider 2.0的预期发布,我将开发USpider 2.0,与它的查询复杂性和多样性的提高保持同步,同时利用LLM架构和训练技术的最新进展。总的来说,USpider为乌尔都语上的NLP研究作出了贡献,提供全面翻译的数据集,并证明了它在乌尔都语文本到SQL转换中的效用。实验结果展示了准确生成SQL查询的潜力,同时指出了需要改进的方面。这项研究为开发兼容性强和可用性高的数据库自然语言接口奠定了基础,赋能乌尔都语社区,推动低资源语言NLP领域的发展。

Evaluation of the versatility of perforators-enhanced rhomboid flap technique for ischial sores reconstruction

Background: Prolonged pressure on the skin known as pressure sores, can cause frequent injuries to the skin and underlying tissues. However, several prevention approaches, including non-surgical and surgical management,are available. In flap surgery for pressure sores, a variety of flap types may be used; each offers certain benefits and some incidences of complications and recurrence. This study evaluated the versatility of the perforatorenhanced rhomboid flap technique for ischial sore ***: This prospective study was conducted in the Plastic Surgery Department of Fayoum University *** perforator-enhanced rhomboid flap technique was employed in 20 patients with ischial pressure sores who failed to respond to conservative treatment. A proper history was obtained and a preoperative arterial duplex was performed to determine the site of the prominent perforators for their preservation at the base of the *** follow-ups and evaluations were ***: The mean age of the study group was 43.7 ± 13.1, ranging from 19 to 65 years. Moreover, 80% of the participants were males while 20% were female. The main etiology of the sores was paraplegia in 45% of *** mean surface area of sores was 24.8 ± 6.3 cm2. In 75% of cases, the color match of the flap was rated as excellent. Similarly, 70% of the patients rated flap thickness as excellent. In 55% of the cases, the scar appearance was deemed excellent. Overall satisfaction was reported as excellent by 40% of the patients, while only 5% reported poor satisfaction.
