Study on gam.a response function of EJ301 organic liquid scintillator with GEANT4 and FLUKA

The gam.a response function is required for energy calibration of EJ301 （5 cm.in diam.ter and 20 cm.in height） organic liquid scintillator detector by m.ans of gam.a sources. The GEANT4 and FLUKA m.nte Carlo sim.lation packages were used to sim.late the response function of the detector for standard 22Na, 60Co, 137Cs gam.a sources. The sim.lated results showed a good agreem.nt with experim.ntal data by incorporating the energy resolution function to sim.lation codes. The energy resolution and the position of the m.xim.m.Com.ton electron energy were obtained by com.aring m.asured light output distribution with sim.lated one. The energy resolution of the detector varied from.21.2% to 12.4% for electrons in the energy region from.0.341 m.V to 1.12 m.V. The accurate position of the m.xim.m.Com.ton electron energy was determ.ned at the position 81% of m.xim.m.height of Com.ton edges distribution. In addition, the relation of the electron energy calibration and the effective neutron detection thresholds were described in detail. The present results indicated that both packages were suited for studying the gam.a response function of EJ301 detector.

The high-tem.erature sensitivity of the silicon m.terial index lim.ts the applications of silicon-based m.cro-ring resonators in integrated photonics. To realize a low but broadband tem.erature-dependent-wavelength-shift m.croring resonator, designing a broadband atherm.l waveguide becom.s a significant task. In this work,we propose a broadband atherm.l waveguide that shows a low effective therm.-optical coefficient of1 × 10^(-6)∕K from.1400 to 1700 nm. The proposed waveguide shows a low-loss perform.nce and stable broadband atherm.l property when it is applied to ring resonators, and the bending loss of ring resonators with a radius of >30 μm.is 0.02 dB/cm.

The covered-ice breakup in subarctic to arctic rivers in the early snowm.lt season often gives any dam.ge to instrum.nts m.nitoring physical and chem.cal factors of water. The serious condition has brought few tim. series data during the snowm.lt runoff except the river stage or discharge. In this study, the contribution of snowm.lt runoff to the discharge and sedim.nt load is quantified by m.nitoring water turbidity and tem.erature at the lowest gauging station of U. S. Geological Survey in the Yukon River, Alaska, for m.re than 3 years (June 2006 to Septem.er 2009). The turbidity was recorded by a self-recording turbidim.ter with a sensor of infrared-ray back-scattering type, of which the window is cleaned by a wiper just before a m.asurem.nt. The turbidity tim. series, coupled with frequent river water sam.ling at m.d-channel, produce tim. series of suspended sedim.nt (SS) concentration, particulate organic carbon (POC) concentration and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) concentration (m.?L–1) by using the high correlation (R2 = 0.747 to 0.790;P 11 to 2.01 × 1011 m.), 8.7% - 22.5% of the annual sedim.nt load (3.94 × 107 to 5.08 × 107 ton), 11.6% - 23.7% of the annual POC flux (4.05 × 105 to 4.77 × 105 ton), and 10.3% - 24.5% of the annual PON flux (2.80 × 104 to 3.44 × 104 ton). In the snowm.lt season, the peak suspended sedim.nt concentration preceded the peak discharge by a few days. This probably results from.the fluvial sedim.nt erosion in the river channels.

Objective: This study aim.d to develop a nom.gram.to predict the 1-year survival of patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent pancreatectom. following neoadjuvant treatm.nt with preoperatively detectable clinical param.ters. Extended pancreatectom. is necessary to achieve com.lete tum.r rem.val in borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer. However, it increases postoperative m.rbidity and m.rtality rates, and should be balanced with potential benefit of long-term.***: The m.dical records of patients who underwent pancreatectom. following neoadjuvant treatm.nt from.January 2005 to Decem.er 2016 at Severance Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. m.dical records were collected from.five international institutions from.Japan and Singapore for external ***: A total of 113 patients were enrolled. The nom.gram.for predicting 1-year disease-specific survival was created based on 5 clinically detectable preoperative param.ters as follows: age(year), sym.tom.no/yes), tum.r size at initial diagnostic stage(cm., preoperative serum.carbohydrate antigen(CA) 19-9 level after neoadjuvant treatm.nt(m.L), and planned surgery [pancreaticoduodenectom.(PD)(pylorus-preserving PD)/distal pancreatectom.(DP)/total pancreatectom.]. m.del perform.nce was assessed for discrim.nation and *** calibration plot showed good agreem.nt between actual and predicted survival probabilities;the the Greenwood-Nam.D’Agostino(GND) goodness-of-fit test showed that the m.del was well calibrated(χ~2=8.24,P=0.5099). A total of 84 patients were used for external validation. Photocatalytic Activity of Anodized Titanium.Sheets under Ultra-Violet and Visible Light Irradiation

A com.ercially pure titanium.sheet precipitated TiC in the surface layer was fabricated by anodic oxidation in NH4NO3 solution and heat treatm.nt in air. The fabricated sheet showed relatively high photocatalytic activity in 0.1 m.KI solution, which was close to the activity level of the P-25 particle m.de by Degussa Corporation. It exhibited photocatalytic activity in antifungal and antivirus tests under black light irradiation. The better photocatalytic activity under black light irradiation is considered to be related to the form.tion of anatase and rutile type titanium.dioxides and rough surface. It also showed photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation, which is considered to be attributable to carbon and nitrogen doping in titanium.dioxide.

Characterization of Surface Oxide Layers on Black-Colored Titanium

Black-colored titanium.was obtained by anodic oxidation of a com.ercially pure grade-1 titanium.sheet in a 0.06 m.NH4NO3 solution, followed by heat treatm.nt at 773 K for 1 h in a vacuum.furnace. The resulting oxide layer on the titanium.substrate was exam.ned by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, glow discharge spectroscopy, and scanning electron m.croscopy. It was found that the oxide layer on the black-colored titanium.sheet was several m.crom.ters thick and m.inly consisted of rutile TiO2 exhibiting a sponge like nanoporous structure. It is considered that the black-colored appearance of the titanium.sheet is due to the sponge like nanoporous structure of the oxide layer absorbing the incident light. The photocatalytic activity of the black-colored titanium.sheet was exam.ned by observing the decom.osition of a m.thylene blue (m., C16H18N3SCl) solution under ultraviolet irradiation due to the existence of rutile TiO2. The sheet also exhibited photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. It is believed that the photocatalytic response upon irradiation with white light is due to carbon doping of the titanium.oxide layer on the titanium.substrate.

Ham.m.tsu R1924A is one of the m.st widely used photom.ltiplier tubes(Pm.s) in nuclear *** the active base suitable for R1924A is still not available in m.rket, an active base is designed for Ham.m.tsu R1924A Pm., and the test results at high counting rates are presented. The active bases with two different sets of resistor chains were tested and com.ared by a frequency-controlled green straw hat LED light. A stable signal output up to 100 kHz is achieved using frequency-controlled LED pulsed light. The tem.erature of bases, which reflects the power consum.tion and is crucial for applications in vacuum. is also m.nitored with the sam. LED pulsed light. The tem.erature of the active base with sm.ller resistances reaches about twice of that of the active base with larger resistances in the resistor chain. For the applications in vacuum. the active base with resistance between the two sets of resistor chains m.y be preferable.

In this report,a kinem.tical focusing technique will be briefly described,and using this technique,the prim.ry hot isotope yields from.the m.ltiplicities of evaporated light particles,associated with isotopically identified interm.diate m.ss fragm.nts,are *** energy and characteristic properties of the fragm.nting source at the tim. of the interm.diate m.ss fragm.nt form.tion are extracted from.these reconstructed prim.ry isotope yields using a self-consistent *** extracted density-dependent sym.etry energy is further com.ared with those experim.ntally extracted from.other heavy-ion reactions in literatures.A direct connection between the freeze-out concept and transport m.del sim.lations in a m.ltifragm.nting regim. of heavy-ion collisions is also dem.nstrated quantitatively in the present work.
