Variations of trace elements under hydrological conditions in the Min River, Eastern Tibetan Plateau

In order to better understand the relative importance of hydrologic variation and anthropogenic disturbance and their complex interactions within the trace elemental geochemical cycle, water samples were collected monthly over 1 year in the Min River, eastern Tibetan Plateau, and analyzed for trace element composition. The dissolved trace elements exhibited different relationships with increasing discharge compared with major *** elements analyzed can be divided into three groups according to their behavior in response to changing discharge:(1) elements that showed weak positive correlation with discharge, e.g. Cu, V, and Ba;(2) elements that exhibited weak negative correlation with discharge,including Rb, Sr, Pb, Sb, Zn, Cr, Cd, and U; and(3) elements that displayed no significant correlation with variation in discharge, e.g. Ti, Fe, Co, ni, and As. Cu was strongly affected by anthropogenic activities and flushed into the river with increasing discharge. Ba has a strong solubility in the terrestrial environment, dissolved quickly,and was released into the river. The positive relationship between V concentration and discharge may be attributed to secondary reactions, such as precipitation and adsorption on oxides and aluminosilicate clays. Conservative behavior had an impact on the geochemical behavior of Sr and Rb across hydrologic variation. Pb, Zn, Sb, Cd, and Cr underw.nt a mild dilution effect connected with anthropogenic activities. The chemostatic behavior of U was regulated by carbonate dissolution and biological *** addition, higher temperatures enhanced biotic activities,affecting the concentrations of Fe and ni. The relationship between power law slopes and coefficient of variation for discharge and solute concentration suggests that concentrations of trace elements vary significantly with increasing discharge compared with major elements. Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents in the management of cancer patients with anemia: a meta-analysis

Background： Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents （ESAs） are widely used in the management of anemia in cancer patients. Despite their apparent effectiveness, recent studies have suggested that ESAs could result in serious adverse events and even higher mortality. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the benefits and risks of ESAs in the management of cancer patients with anemia using a recta-analysis. Methods： The initial literature search covered Medline, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials, and identified 1,569 articles. The final meta-analysis included eight randomized controlled trials （n=2,387） in cancer patients with 〈11 g/dL hemoglobin （Hb） at the baseline and target Hb （for stopping ESA treatment） at no more than 13 g/dL. The assessment measures included Hb response, blood transfusion rate and adverse events that included venous thromboemblism （VTE）, hypertension, and on-study mortality. The results are expressed as pooled odds ratio （OR）. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot analysis. Results： ESAs significantly increased the Hb concentration [OR 7.85, 95% confidence interval （CI）： 5.85 to 10.53, P〈O.O01] and reduced the red blood cell （RBC） transfusion rate （OR 0.52, 95% CI： 0.42 to 0.65, P〈0.001）. ESAs did not increase the accumulated adverse events （OR 0.95, P=0.82）, or the on-study mortality （OR 1.09, P=0.47）. Conclusions： ESAs are not associated with increased frequency of severe adverse events in anemic cancer patients when the target Hb value is no more than 13 g/dL.

AIM： TO investigate the role of a-fetoprotein （AFP）, a cancer-associated fetal glycoprotein, in glucocorticoidinduced precocious maturation in rat colon. METHODS： Colons from suckling Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this study. Corticosterone acetate at a dose of 100 μg/g body weight was given to normal pups on days 7, 9 and 11 after birth to induce hypercorticoidism. Control animals were injected with identical volumes of normal saline. Some rats receiving corticosterone 7 d after birth were also treated with mifepristone （RU38486）, a glucocorticoid cytoplasm receptor antagonist to investigate the effects of glucocorticoids （GCs）. The morphological changes of the crypt depth and villous height of the villous zone in colon were observed as indicesof colon maturation. Expression levels of AFP in colons were detected by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. To identify the cellular lo- calization of AFP in developing rat colons, double-immu- nofluorescent staining was performed using antibodies to specific mesenchymal cell marker and AFP. RESULTS： Corticosterone increased the crypt depth and villous height in the colon of 8- and 10-d-old rats with hypercorticoidism compared with that in the control ani- mals （120% in 8-d-old rats and 118% in 10-d-old rats in villous height, P = 0.021; 145% in 8-d-old rats and 124% in 10-d-old rats in crypt depth, P = 0.017）. These increases were accompanied by an increase of AFP ex- pression in both mRnA and protein （2.5-folds in 8-d- old and 2.5-folds in 10-d-old rats higher than in control animals, P = 0.035; 1.8-folds in 8-d-old and 1.3-folds in 10-d-old rats higher than in control animals, P = 0.023）. Increased crypt depth and villous height and increased expression of AFP in the colon of rats with hypercorti- coidism were blocked by mifepristone. Effect of Same-dose Single or Dual Field Irradiation on Damage to Miniature Pig Parotid Glands

Aim To evaluate the effect of single or dual field irra- diation （IR） with the same dose on damage to miniature pig parotid glands. Methodology Sixteen miniature pigs were divided into two IR groups （n=6） and a control group （n=4）. The irradi- ation groups were subjected to 20 Gy X-radiation to one parotid gland using single-field or dual-field modality by linear accelerator. The dose-volume distributions between two IR groups were compared. Saliva from parotid glands and blood were collected at 0, 4, 8 and 16 weeks after irradiation. Parotid glands were removed at 16 weeks to evaluate tissue morphology.Results The irradiation dose volume distributions were significantly different between single and dual field irradi- ation groups （t----4.177, P=0.002）, although dose volume histogramin （DVH） indicated the equal maximal dose in parotid glands. Saliva flow rates from IR side decreased dramatically at all time points in IR groups, especially in dual field irradiation group. The radiation caused changes of white blood cell count in blood, lactate dehydrogenase and amylase in serum, calcium, potassium and amylase in saliva. Morphologically, more severe radiation damage was found in irradiated parotid glands from dual field irradi- ation group than that from single field irradiation group. Conclusion Data from this large animal model demons- trated that the radiation damage from the dual field irradiation was more severe than that of the single field irradiation at the same dose, suggesting that dose-volume distribution is an important factor in evaluation of the radiobiology of parotid glands.

Physiological and Molecular Response of wheat Roots to nitrate Supply in Seedling Stage

The objective of this study was to understand the morphological,physiological,and molecular responses of wheat roots to nitrate supply at seedling *** wheat genotypes,Jimai 22 and Shannong 15,were grown in Hoagland＇s nutrient solution with different nitrate levels at seedling *** indicated that the plant dry weight and n accumulation increased with the increase of nitrate *** number of axial root,total uptake area （TUA）,and active uptake area （AUA） increased with more nitrate *** analysis indicated that significant positive correlations existed between n accumulation and dry weight,n accumulation and AUA,and n accumulation and AUA/***,the expressions of nRT2.1,nRT2.2,and nRT2.3 decreased with nitrate supply increased,the expressions of nRT1,nRT2.1,and nRT2.3 could maintain high level at n3 *** free amino acid and nO3- content in shoot also increased with the increased nitrate application,but no significant difference was found in root among the *** results implied that the increase of n uptake by nitrate supply was due to the morphological and physiological responses of wheat roots and the high expression level of TanRT ***,the contribution of morphological,physiological,and molecular parameters was different between two genotypes of wheat.

Circulating endothelial microvesicles and their carried miR-125a 5p:potential biomarkers for ischaemic stroke

Response of carbon footprint to plastic film mulch application in spring maize production and mitigation strategy

Producing more food with a lower environmental cost is one of the most crucial challenges worldwide. Plastic mulching has developed as one of the most dominant practices to improve crop yields, however its impacts on greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions during the production life cycle of a crop are still unclear. The objective of this work is to quantify the impacts of plastic film on GHG emissions and to reduce GHG emissions with innovative agronomic practices. Carbon footprint per unit of area(CFa), per unit of maize grain yield(CFy), and per unit of economic output(CFe) were evaluated for three maize cultivation systems: a no mulch system, a conventional plastic mulching system(PM) and a biennial plastic mulching pattern, namely a ’one film for 2 years’ system(PM2), during 2015–2018 in a maize field located on the Loess Plateau of China. The results suggested that PM induced a 24% improvement in maize yields during the four experimental years compared to a no-mulch treatment(nM). However, PM dramatically increased the CFa by 69%, 59% of which was created by the input of the plastic film material, and 10% was created by increases in the soil n2O emissions. The yield improvements from PM could not offset the increases in CFa, and CFy and CFe were both increased by 36%. Shifting from PM to PM2 did not reduce crop yields, but it led to a 21% reduction in CFa and 23% reductions in CFy and CFe due to the reduced input amount of plastic film, decreased soil n2O emissions, and less diesel oil used for tillage. Compared to nM, CFy and CFe were only 5% higher in PM2. This study highlights the necessity of reducing the amount of plastic film input in the development of low-carbon agriculture and shifting from conventional PM cultivation to PM2 could be an efficient option for mitigating GHG emissions while sustaining high crop yields in plastic mulched fields.

Crystal Structure, Thermal Decomposition Behaviors and Sensitivity Properties of a novel Energetic Compound [Co（DAT）6] （CIO4）2

A novel energetic coordination compound [Co（DAT）6]（CIO4）2 has been synthesized by using 1,5-diaminotetrazole （DAT） as a ligand and its structure has been characterized using X-ray single crystal diffraction, elemental analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy. The central cobalt（II） cation is coordinated by six n atoms from six DAT molecules to form a six-coordinated and distorted octahedral structure. Di-dimension layer structure was formed by the extensive intermolecular hydrogen bonds between DAT ligands and CIO4 anions along a-axis and b-axis. Thermal decomposition mechanism of [Co（DAT）6]（CIO4）2 was investigated based on differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）, thermogravimetric analysis （TGA） and Fourier transform infrared （FF-IR） spectra. The kinetic parameters of the first exothermic process were studied by applying the Kissinger＇s and Ozawa-Doyle＇s methods. Additionally, the sensitivities of this complex were tested. The results of all the studies show that [Co（DAT）6]（CIO4）2 has an extreme potential application as an energetic material.

Analysis of Carbon Functional Groups in Mobile Humic Acid and Recalcitrant Calcium Humate Extracted from Eight US Soils

Solid state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance （nMR） spectroscopy is a common tool to study the structure of soil humic fractions; however, knowledge regarding carbon structural relationships in humic fractions is limited. In this study, mobile humic acid （MHA） and recalcitrant calcium humate （CallA） fractions were extracted from eight soils collected from six US states and representing a variety of soils and ecoregions, characterized by this spectroscopic technique and analyzed for statistical significance at P 〈 0.05. we found that the abundances of COO and n-C=O functional groups in the MHA fractions were negatively correlated to soil sand content, but were positively correlated to silt, total n and soil organic carbon contents. In contrast, the abundances of the COO and n-C=O functional groups were only positively correlated to the content of clay in the CallA fractions, indicating that the two humic fractions were associated with different soil components. The two 13C nMR peaks representing alkyls and OCH3/nCH were negatively correlated to the peaks representing aromatics, aromatic C-O and n-C=O/COO. Comparison of the sets of data from 13C nMR spectroscopy and ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry revealed that the aromatic components identified by the two methods were highly consistent. The comparison further revealed that protein in MHA was associated with, or bound to, the nonpolar alkyl groups, but a component competitively against （or complementary to） aromatic groups in the MHA composition. These observations provided insight on the internal correlations of the functional groups of soil humic fractions.
