Th. surface and upper-level features associated w.th.a sh.rp drop ofw.ntertime daily temperature over South.Korea is investigated in th.s study. Th.s sh.rp drop indaily temperature is called a cold surge and is one of th. most h.zardous w.ath.r ph.nomena in EastAsian w.nters. An upper-level baroclinic w.ve of 60° w.velength.propagating eastw.rd at a ph.sespeed of 12° longitude per day across th. continent of north.rn Ch.na from th. w.st of Lake Baikaltow.rd th. eastern coast of Ch.na causes th. outbreak of cold air over South.Korea. Th. coolingassociated w.th.th. upper-level baroclinic jvave is found at all altitudes under th. geopotentialh.igh.-fall center near th. tropopause. Th. development in th. ridge seems to derive th. earlyevolution of th. eastw.rd-propagating sinusoidal w.ve, w.ereas th. trough.is connected directly w.th.h. troposph.ric temperature-drop. An enh.ncement of th. w.ntertime East Asian jet stream after th.outbreak of a cold surge is a response to th. steep temperature gradient associated w.th.th.developing baroclinic w.ve.

In-line h.dro-treatment of bio-oil vapor from fast pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass （h.dro-pyrolysis of biomass） is studied as a meth.d of upgrading th. liquefied bio-oil for a possible precursor to green fuels. Th. nobel metal （Pt） and non-noble metal catalysts （Mo2C and w.） w.re compared at 500 ℃ and atmosph.ric pressure w.ich.are same as th. reaction conditions for fast pyrolysis of biomass. Results indicated th.t under th. pyrolysis conditions, th. major components, such.as acids and carbonyls, of th. fast pyrolysis bio-oil can be completely and partially h.drogenated to form h.drocarbons, an ideal fossil fuel blend, in th. h.dro-treated bio-oil. Th. carbide catalysts perform equally w.ll as th. Pt catalyst regarding to th. aliph.tic and aromatic h.drocarbon formation （ca. 60%）, sh.w.ng th. feasibility of using th. ch.ap non-noble catalysts for h.dro-pyrolysis of biomass.

Tetralogy of Fallot(TOF)w.th.total anomalous pulmonary vein connections(TAPVC)is a rare type of complex congenital h.art disease among all TOF ***-presentation of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries(MAPCAs)compensates for th. lack of central pulmonary bloodﬂow.and decreases th. severity of righ.-to-left sh.nting in *** present a case of a 2-year-old ch.ld w.th.complex diagnoses of TOF,TAPVC,a large secun-dum atrial septal defect(ASD),and intraoperatively identiﬁed *** underw.nt surgery to repair th. TAPVC,valve-sparing reconstruction of th. righ. ventricular outﬂow.tract,interventricular defect closure,and th. creation of patent foramen ovale(PFO).After th. operation,h.modynamic instability h.ppened along w.th.sudden blood pressure drop,desaturation,and increased central venous pressure,w.ich.subsided after adminis-tering inh.lational nitric oxide(NO).A postoperative pulmonary h.pertension crisis w.s suggested w.en th. patient experienced recurrent symptoms after th. termination of ***ﬁndings of a D-sh.ped left ventricle(LV),righ.-to-left PFO sh.nt and h.gh.tricuspid valve gradientﬁrmly establish.d th. *** w.s subsequently managed w.th.continuous NO inh.lation and sildenaﬁl,w.ich.rendered a satisfactory *** TOF and TAPVC could be at particular risk of developing pulmonary h.pertension crisis,especially in th. presence of MAPCAs due to possible remodeling of th. pulmonary ***,a relatively non-compliant LV function and small left atrial size may exacerbate th. risk of developing postcapillary pulmonary h.pertension after TAPVC repair.A successful postoperative outcome calls for a meticulous preoperative analysis of th. anatomical lesions,as w.ll as careful monitoring.

Ch.ngma is th. most important supplier of w.ter resource in Korea. h.w.ver, its interannual variation may cause eith.r floods or drough.s time to time in many regions of Korea. A number of studies on Ch.ngma h.ve been done in many subjects, such.as th. on-set and retreat timing, duration of Ch.ngma, and its interannual variation, w.ich.may cause eith.r w.t or dry Ch.ngma, and th. h.avy rainfall ph.nomena associated w.th.th. Ch.ngma front. Also, th. subjects covered th. dynamical situation of Ch.ngma compared to th.t of Baiu and Mei-yu as a part of East Asian monsoon circulation, and relation betw.en Ch.ngma and tropical Pacific sea-surface temperature (SST) th.ough.atmosph.re-ocean interaction, etc. A numerical study is presented in th.s paper to ch.ck th. teleconnection betw.en th. beh.vior of Ch.ngma front and th. variation of tropical Pacific SST. Th. difference in th. low.r level streamfunction betw.en th.El Nio event of 1987 and th. La Nia event of 1988 illustrates th.t th. cross-equatorial and w.sterly w.nd crossing over th. India and Indo-Ch.na peninsula w.re w.ak during th. summer of 1988 compared to 1987. Th.s may cause th. drough. of 1988 in East Asia by reducing moisture supply from th. Indian Ocean and th. south.w.stern Pacific. Even th.ugh.th.re are numerous research.activities on th. Ch.ngma, our know.edge on th. Ch.ngma is still limited to explain th. mech.nism of interannual variation of Ch.ngma and to provide a proper prediction of precipitation due to both.geograph.cal location of Korea and its complex topograph.. In collaboration w.th.th. international field observational projects, such.as GAME and SCSMEX, th. Korea Monsoon Experiment (KORMEX) h.s been planned by several scientists in Korea to improve our know.edge on th. atmosph.ric circulation and w.ter cycle related to th. East Asian monsoon and to provide necessary information to predict both.sh.rt- and long-term variation of rainfall during th. Ch.ngma season.

GLARE （glass fibre/epoxy reinforced aluminum laminate） is a member of th. fiber metal laminate （FML） family, and is built up of alternating metal and fiber layers. About 500 m2 GLARE is employed in each.Airbus A380 because of th. superior mech.nical properties over th. monolith.c Muminum alloys, such.as w.igh. reduction, improved damage tolerance and h.gh.r ultimate tensile strength. Many tons of new.GLARE scraps h.ve been accumulated during th. Airbus A380 manufacturing. Moreover, w.th.th. increasing plane orders of Airbus A380, more and more end-of-life （EOL） GLARE scrap w.ll be generated after retire of planes w.th.n forty years. Th.rmal processing is a potential meth.d for th. material recycling and re-use from GLARE w.th.th. aim of environmental protection and economic benefits. Th. current study indicatdes th.t th.rmal delamination is a crucial pre-treatment step for th. GLARE recycling. Th. decomposition beh.vior of th. epoxy resins at elevated temperatures w.s investigated by using th. simultaneous th.rmal analysis, th.rmogravimetry analysis （TGA） and differential scanning calorimetry （DSC）. Based on th. th.rmal analysis results, GLARE th.rmal delamination experiments at refined temperatures w.re carried out to optimize th. treatment temperature and h.lding time.

Recycling of aluminum alloy scrap obtained from delaminated fibre metal laminates （FMLs） w.s studied th.ough.h.gh.temperature refining in th. presence of a salt flux. Th. aluminum alloy scrap contains approximately mass fraction w.Cu） = 4.4%, w.Mg） = 1.1% and w.Mn） = 0.6% （2024 aluminum alloy）. Th. main objective of th.s research.is to obtain a h.gh.metal yield, w.ile maintaining its original alloy compositions. Th. w.rk focuses on th. metal yield and quality of recycled A1 alloy under different refining conditions. Th. NaCI-KC1 salt system w.s selected as th. major components of flux in th. A1 alloy recycling. Tw. different flux compositions w.re employed at NaC1 to KC1 mass ratios of 44：56 and 70：30 respectively, based on eith.r th. euteetic composition, or th. European preference. Different additives w.re introduced into th. NaCI-KC1 system to study th. effect of flux component on recycling result. Alth.ugh.burning and oxidation loss of th. alloying elements during re-melting and refining take place as th. draw.acks of conventional refining process, th. problems can be solved to a large extent by using an appropriate salt flux. Experimental results indicate th.t Mg in th. alloy gets lost w.en adding cryolite in th. NaCI-KC1 salt system, th.ugh.th. metal yield can reach.as h.gh.as 98%. h.w.ver, by adding w.MgF2） = 5% into th. NaCI-KC1 salt system （instead of using cryolite） all alloying elements w.re w.ll controlled to its original composition w.th.a metal yield of almost 98%.
