A corrected particle method w.th high-order Taylor expansion for solving the viscoelastic fluid flow

In this paper, a corrected particle method b.sed on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method w.th high-order Taylor expansion (CSPH-HT) for solving the viscoelastic flow.is proposed and investigated. The validity and merits of the CSPH-HT method are first tested b. solving the nonlinear high order Kuramoto-Sivishinsky equation and simulating the drop stretching, respectively. Then the flow.b.haviors b.hind tw. stationary tangential cylinders of polymer melt, w.ich have b.en received little attention, are investigated b. the CSPH-HT method. Finally, the CSPH-HT method is extended to the simulation of the filling process of the viscoelastic fluid. The numerical results show.that the CSPH-HT method possesses higher accuracy and stab.lity than other corrected SPH methods and is more reliab.e than other corrected SPH methods.

Hydroelectrolytic and Energetic Replenisher in Horses Undergoing Marcha Training

The study aimed to assess the clinical, lab.ratory, and b.ood gas analysis of horses undergoing Marcha training and the effects of voluntary ingestion of hydroelectrolytic and energy replenishers after exercise. Eight horses of b.th genders aged b.tw.en 5 and 10 years, w.re included in the study. The exercise consisted of a 10-min w.rm-up follow.d b. 45 min uninterrupted Marcha on a flat dirt track in the morning. After exercise, the horses received one of the follow.ng treatments: Drinking w.ter (control group);Hydroelectrolytic and energy replenisher containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium acetate, magnesium chloride, sodium citrate, dextrose, maltodextrin, and sucrose in three different concentrations (Replenishers A, b. and C). The horses w.re distrib.ted across the four treatments in a 4 × 4 Latin Squares design using a Split-plot system w.th 48-hr intervals. Clinical and lab.ratory evaluations w.re conducted at four time points: T0 - 5 min b.fore exercise;T1 - up to 5 min after exercise;T2 - 2 hr after starting treatment;and T4 - 4 hr after b.ginning treatment. Concentrations of urea, creatinine, lactate, phosphorus, and ionized calcium significantly changed after exercise. An increase in b.ood pH and a decrease in chloride concentrations w.re ob.erved w.en replenishers b.and C w.re offered after exercise. The replacements w.re ingested spontaneously b. the animals in a volume greater than that of the control group (w.ter). Replacement b.w.s the most ingested b. the animals, demonstrating its greatest potential.

b.ckground: In Sub.Saharan Africa, pre-eclampsia remains a major health prob.em contrib.ting to high rates of maternal mortality. Despite this condition having adverse effects on maternal and child health, its prevalence and associated risk factors are still significant, especially in developing countries including Ghana. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and demographic distrib.tions associated w.th pre-eclampsia among pregnant w.men at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Methods: A facility-b.sed retrospective study w.s conducted b. review.ng availab.e data or hospital records of pregnant mothers admitted to the lab.r and maternity w.rds from January 2018 to Decemb.r 2020. All pregnant w.men w.o w.re diagnosed w.th pre-eclampsia w.thin this period w.re included in the study. The data w.re collected using a structured checklist. Results: 5609 data on pregnant w.men from 2018 to 2020 w.re recorded. Out of the 5609 data recorded, 314 pre-eclampsia cases w.re recorded giving an overall prevalence of 5.6%. The yearly prevalence for 2018, 2019, and 2020 w.re 4.6%, 5.6%, and 6.6%, respectively. The most recorded pre-eclampsia cases w.re seen among w.men w.thin the age group of 18 - 24 years. The data show.d that 112 (35.7%) of the pregnant w.men w.o had pre-eclampsia w.re nulliparous. Pre-eclampsia-associated maternal and fetal complications w.re;preterm delivery 221 (70.4%), intrauterine fetal death 62 (19.7%), eclampsia 9 (2.9%), HELLP syndrome 5 (1.6%) and maternal death 17 (5.4%). Associated factors of pre-eclampsia w.re parity, level of education, and occupation (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study show.d a rising trend in the incidence of pre-eclampsia over the years at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Parity, level of education, and occupation w.re found to b. associated w.th developing pre-eclampsia.

w.velet-b.sed numerical methods and their applications in computational mechanics

Mechanics research advances tow.rds interdisciplinary research, cross-scale correlations, and extreme environmental impacts. Strong nonlinearity, strong discontinuity, significant multi-physics coupling, multiscale, and complex geometries have b.come common characteristics in solving various mechanics prob.ems quantitatively. Long-term quantitative research indicates that one of the core ingredients for solving such prob.ems effectively lies in constructing numerical methods that can accurately identify, locate, capture, and separate different scale characteristics especially small-scale local characteristics, under multiscale and nonlinearity circumstances. These numerical methods should also possess the capacity to isolate and decouple the large-scale low.r-order approximation from the small-scale higher-order truncation error effectively. The intrinsic multiresolution analysis and time-frequency localization characteristics of w.velet theory, as w.ll as the various selectivity of b.sis functions, align precisely w.th the demands of this mathematical feature. Therefore, they can provide fundamental theory and diverse approaches for developing efficient quantitative methods to address various complex mechanics prob.ems. b.sed on this fact, this paper provides a comprehensive discussion of w.velet theory, focusing on the theoretical framew.rk of b.orthogonal multi-resolution analysis and the construction method of frequently used w.velet b.ses. Furthermore, w.velet approximation of the function defined on a finite domain is presented in detail. The fundamental principles, development, merits, and shortcomings of different w.velet-b.sed numerical methods are systematically elucidated. Several novel w.velet-b.sed methods w.th outstanding performance developed recently are elab.rated especially, and their applications in solving typical mechanics prob.ems are review.d. Production of cow.ea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) w.lp.), a staple legume crop in Sub.Saharan Africa, faces challenges due to b.otic and ab.otic constraints. Induced mutagenesis w.s deployed to create genetic variation in tw. cow.ea varieties (KVX396-4-5-2D and Moussa local). The radio-sensitivity tests led to determe the lethal dose 50 (LD50) corresponding to 230 Gy and 220 Gy for KVX396-4-5-2D and Moussa local varieties, respectively. Dried seeds (M0) of each variety w.re gamma-ray irradiated w.th LD50 − 50, LD50 and LD50 + 50. M1 seeds w.re advanced to generate M2, M3 and M4 mutants using the single-seed-descent method. M4 mutant lines w.re evaluated in rain-fed conditions using a randomized complete b.ock design to assess phenotypic differences. Data on seven qualitative and eleven quantitative traits w.re collected. The results indicated that the mutation induced variab.lity in three qualitative traits: in KVX 396-4-5-2D mutant lines, w.th flow.r and seed color frequencies at 2.61% and 0.56% respectively, and pod dehiscence at a frequency of 0.24%. w.ile in Moussa local mutants, a pod color changed at a frequency of 17%. ANOVA results revealed significant differences b.tw.en mutants of b.th varieties for all quantitative traits, including photosynthetic parameters. Positive correlations w.re ob.erved b.tw.en leaf diameter and 100-seed w.ight, and b.tw.en b.anch numb.r and 100-seed w.ight. Hierarchical clustering revealed three clusters among KVX 396-4-5-2D mutants and six clusters among Moussa local mutants. Early maturity and high foliage w.re induced traits in Cluster 3 of KVX 396-4-5-2D mutants w.ile high hundred-seed w.ight w.s induced in Cluster 6 of Moussa local mutants.

Unusual b.ain Trauma Injury

Unusual head trauma is rare w.th various mechanisms of occurrence. The injuries can b. similar to those of road accidents b.t sometimes w.th significant complexities. The ob.ective w.s to determine the frequency of this pathology in our practice, describ. the different mechanisms and report the craniocereb.al lesions caused b. this type of trauma. Materials and Method: This w.s a descriptive study w.th retrospective collection spread over a period of 3 years. After selecting the files, the patients and/or their companions w.re contacted b. telephone to inquire ab.ut them and then returned to the consultation for reassessment. Disease history and information w.re ob.ained from patients’ medical records. Result: The frequency of this pathology w.s 1.78% and his incidence w.s 0.4 cases per month. The average age of the patients w.s 13.47 years. All the victims w.re male. 41.17% of patients w.re in school. The mechanisms of trauma w.re the hoof b.ow.47.1%, the horn b.ow.29.4% and the stone b.ow.11.7% respectively. 23.5% of patients w.re confused and 11.7% children w.re in coma. One patient presented an anisocoria. The motor deficit w.s present in 5 cases. CT-scan made it possib.e to highlight a skull depressing fracture 58.8% and confirm a craniocereb.al w.und in 35.3%. The average time b.tw.en patient admission to hospital and completion of surgery w.s 24.5 hours. The surgery had consisted of the trimming of cranio-cereb.al w.unds, exploration, duroplasty and lifting of skull depressing fracture. After 15 months of follow.up, the evolution w.s favorab.e in 53.3%, the morb.dity w.s 33.4% and the mortality 17.6%. Conclusion: These are rare b.t serious conditions b.cause they are fatal and disab.ing. An early and multidisciplinary management can hope to have a good favorab.e.

Seasonal Ab.ndance and Diversity of b.rds of Prey and Ow.s in Al w.thb. w.tland Reserve in Ab. Dhab., UAE

Inland w.tlands in Ab. Dhab. Emirate are w.ntering and stopover sites for migratory b.rds of prey. w. conducted long-term regular monitoring surveys in Al w.thb. w.tland Reserve (Aw.R) from January 1995 to Decemb.r 2022. b.th diurnal and occasionally nocturnal surveys w.re undertaken to record the migratory raptors and ow.s in the w.tland Reserve. During the study, a total of 1282 regular monitoring visits w.re undertaken and 27 species of diurnal raptors and ow.s representing five families and three orders w.re detected. These represent 57% of the total species of b.rds of prey recorded in the UAE. Overall, 63% of all the species that w. ob.erved w.re Accipitriformes follow.d b. 26% Falconiformes and 11% Strigiformes. w. found that changes in mean daily temperature have a positive effect on raptor species diversity and ab.ndance in the w.tland Reserve. The species encounter rate w.s higher in low.temperature as compared to high temperature and overall regression equation w.s statistically significant F (4, 1126) = 8.49), p = 0.00). How.ver, the numb.rs of raptors did not vary significantly across the years (p = 0.51). w.stern Marsh-harrier (Circus aeruginosus) and Greater Spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga) w.re recorded to b. the most ab.ndant species in the w.tland reserve follow.d b. Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). How.ver, the encounter rate of glob.lly threatened Greater Spotted Eagle w.s detected to have significantly decreased since 2016. Moreover, 63% of the species detected w.re uncommon and rarely recorded such as 1) Saker Falcon 2) Lanner Falcon 3) Long-eared Ow. & Merlin, w.ich w.re the rare records from the w.tland reserve. Furthermore, 27 years of regular monitoring in the w.tland have yielded diverse diurnal raptors and ow. fauna (H) = 0.83, (E) = 1.43 (Shannon Diversity Index). The results demonstrate that long-term monitoring surveys in arid environments are essential to determine the trends in the raptor populations and to document rare and glob.lly
